Former Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore died Saturday at just 25 years old.
The Boilermaker legend, who famously led Purdue to a 49-20 win over Ohio State in 2018, was found in a garage in his hometown of New Albany, Indiana, with a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound, New Albany police chief Todd Bailey told WHAS11 in Louisville.
Moore became an immediate sensation as a freshman at Purdue in 2018, gaining 313 all-purpose yards as a runner, receiver and kickoff returner in his collegiate debut vs. Northwestern. He went on to lead the Big Ten with 114 catches, 1,258 receiving yards, 12 receiving touchdowns and 2,215 all-purpose yards for the season, earning consensus All-American honors as well as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Receiver of the Year awards and the Paul Hornung Award as college football’s most versatile player.
His signature performance as a Boilermaker came in just his seventh collegiate game, when he caught 12 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns to lead Purdue to a stunning upset win over second-ranked Ohio State.
Moore was limited to just seven games in his final two seasons at Purdue due to injuries, but was still selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He went on to play for the Cardinals for three seasons, catching 135 passes for 1,201 yards and three touchdowns and running for 249 yards and a touchdown on 52 carries.
Moore spent the 2024 season with the Atlanta Falcons and the 2025 season with the Minnesota Vikings, but missed the entirety of both seasons with knee injuries.
Former Purdue coach Jeff Brohm was among those who paid tribute to Moore on social media after the news broke Saturday night.
