Week five is no match for this fire.

This is now three weeks in a row where we've found ourselves on the winning side, and the rough start to open the season is fully in the rear-view mirror. In week two we nailed 4 of the 7 picks – winning $6.40 – and were pretty happy with that result. Week three we hit on 5 of 8 picks and earned a smooth $22.76. This past weekend, we reached new heights.

We are on the verge of catching fire.
This hot streak is very, very real.

Eight hits. Three misses. One push. +$32.33

We will start with the three misses: Penn State covering (-12.5) at Iowa, Florida (-2) at Kentucky, and Old Dominion (+28.5) at Virginia Tech. The weekend's lone push was Kansas (+22) against West Virginia.

Everything else was simply beautiful.

The Florida/UK game went over 44 points. This was one I was concerned about, but we aren't complaining about the outcome one bit. The Wolverines used a strong fourth quarter to cover against Purdue. The over/under for Alabama versus Vanderbilt was 43 points and the Crimson Tide promptly pitched a shutout while putting up 59 of their own.

The point total for the Arkansas/Texas A&M game was set at 55. Clay's take on this?

What happens when two coaches are on the hot seat, the two teams are evenly matched, and their teams are playing against each other? Frequently neither coach wants to make a big mistake.

I think one team wins 24-21 over the other. I lean towards A&M being the victor, but I like the under much more than playing either side.

The Aggies won by a score of 50-43. We obviously took the over. #ShootersShoot

  • No analysis is involved as we are just making the opposite picks. None of this actually reflects our thoughts, opinions, or insight.
  • For now we are sticking with $10 on each line. Please note that the lines do move throughout the week.
  • Ohio State won't be included on our end.

Clay's Week Five Picks

11W Week Five Picks:

USC (-4) @ Washington State

Nebraska (-6.5) @ Illinois

Baylor (+16.5) @ Kansas State

South Carolina (+8) @ Texas A&M

Florida (-9.5) vs. Vanderbilt, OVER 41.5

Mississippi State (+9) @ Auburn

Ole Miss (+28) @ Alabama

Georgia @ Tennessee, OVER 46.5

Clemson (-7.5) @ Virginia Tech

Where things stand:

  • Initial Funds: $500
  • Previous Week: +$32.33 (!!!)
  • Current Funds: $498.76
  • Pending Bets: 10
  • Pending Funds: $100

We apparently are siding with the road teams this weekend, and I'm usually not a fan of that strategy. However, Clemson has been pretty good to us this season and I'm feeling a multi-touchdown win for the Tigers in Blacksburg. The USC and Nebraska lines aren't all that bad either, but it's tough to root against Mike Leach. The man fills his office with pirate paraphernalia and is arguably one of the top-10 most interesting people on this planet.

Ole Miss has been a thorn in Nick Saban's side, and I fully expect Alabama to annihilate them this weekend in Tuscaloosa. Not a big fan of that +28 pick, but I suppose stranger things have happened. Florida and Vandy going over 41.5 is also a concern of mine, but the Gators put up some points last week so maybe we can pull one out again.

Nebraska is a bit of an enigma but they've mostly looked god awful this year. Mike Riley needs to win some games or he may find himself interviewing for an assistant position at the University of Findlay.

Baylor handed us one of our wins last week by somehow putting up a fight against Oklahoma, and here's to hoping they can do the same against Kansas State on Saturday. Actually let's not root for Baylor at all. Bill Snyder is a great guy and Baylor basically represents everything that is ugly and awful in America.

Catching fire has never felt so good. May our scorching success and winning ways continue through week five. #GetRich
