When Tate Martell walked into his kitchen, he did not expect it to see Ohio State football legend Eddie George cooking candy Buckeyes.
Martell asked no questions, but things started to make a lot more sense when George pulled out a trophy, honoring the Buckeye commit as the Gatorade Player of the Year.

The four-star quarterback from Bishop Gorman High School accounted for 62 total touchdowns and just one interception this season and finished his high school career with a perfect 43-0 record. Martell led the Gaels to the school's eighth straight Division I state championship and to the No. 1 spot in the USA Today Super 25 national rankings.
“Tate really deserves to be this year’s Gatorade National Football Player of the Year because he embodies everything the award stands for,” said George. “Not only has Tate excelled on the field, but he’s also a stellar student and is a positive influence in the community. I’m excited to follow his career and watch all the things he will accomplish in the future.”
Martell plans to enroll at Ohio State early and is expected to be practicing with the team in the spring.
