Sprinkle Makes Nine

Yesterday we updated you on defensive lineman Tracy Sprinkle out of Elyria. The 6-4/250 prospect told us he picked up an Ohio State offer a few weeks ago on his visit and that he was favoring the Buckeye and Spartans, while saying he would make a college decision whenever he felt the time was right for him.

Apparently that time is right now, as Sprinkle tweeted "It's official. #BuckeyeNation" and confirmed to me via text message that he indeed did commit to the Ohio State staff today.

Sprinkle becomes the ninth commit in the class of 2013 and the second defensive lineman, joining Billy Price. Sprinkle can play both defensive tackle and defensive end, giving Mike Vrabel's unit some flexibility. The Buckeyes are expected to take only one more lineman in this class with their eyes set on last week's visitor Joey Bosa, who also may visit again this weekend for the Spring Game.

While the choice of school isn't all that surprising, the timing is, as it wasn't 100% clear if Sprinkle had a committable offer or not. Apparently he did and in the Elyria product the Buckeyes get an athletic, high motor player to join a defensive line corps that is set to be (in the words of Urban) "borderline ridiculous" in the coming years. He gives Ohio State their ninth verbal pledge in a class that is expected to number around 18.

We will try to catch up with Tracy to get more on his commitment to Ohio State, so stay tuned to 11W for more information.
