After Johnny Manziel, who is the most famous player in college football?

Comments

Oyster's picture

Wouldn't it have to be the only 2 time Heisman winner?  That's who I immediately thought of as I read the question.

VBBuckeye's picture

I'm thinking they meant current college football player, although it's not worded that way.

CentralFloridaBuckeye's picture

That was how I was reading it too.

I went with Clowney especially after that hit against SCum last year.  The dude is just a beast!

raki's picture

Its because of this Hit he has become really famous.

You need to learn how to think outside the box like I do ; )

Jadaveon Clowney is the most famous after JM, hands down. That said, as humble as Braxton Miller is, I believe he's right up there in terms of famous CFB players & is right behind Clowney in terms of fame/notoriety.

I know he's been in Lincoln since the 90's (or so it seems), but who even knows about Taylor Martinez outside the B1G?

I get Clowney's press....he just manhandled a blocking sled the other day, along with dehelmeting scUM RB's that is always cool.

McCarron has a hot mo....has three BCS championships.

There's some idiot from Texas A&M you may have heard about.

There's a pretty talented, quiet young man at Ohio State you may have heard about.

RedStorm45's picture

McCarron was redshirted in 2009 - that's like saying Troy Smith won a national title in 2002.

argyle182021's picture

I voted 'other'.  AJ McCarron's girlfriend.

Becool12's picture

Clowney is definitely more amazing than Manziel. I'd take Clowney over Manziel any day of the week

Buckeyejason's picture

In regards to what?
QB's win games in the NFL. Did you see what Manziel did last year..especially against Oklahoma and Alabama?

Did you see what Clowney did last year against M*chigan? He took over the game when they needed it. What I do like to point out is TA&M had essentially an NFL quality O-Line giving JM his time.

Buckeyejason's picture

He had what, a great hit on Scums RB? Manziel was far more impressive..good line or not.

GlueFingers Lavelli's picture

Is that an air filter over his eyes? High tech shit.

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.

Hands down Clowney as of now...sorry to all our homers who voted for Brax360.  May be after this year that will change;-)

DJRoss926's picture

I voted for Clowney strictly out of fear that he may find out I voted for someone else.

Powers's picture

Somehow Martinez voted for himself 5 times (currently)

Not even Bama fans know who AJ is.

I wasn't born a Buckeye but I became one as fast as I could.

dr green's picture

I agree. I think Argyle meant to say, Katherine Webb's boyfriend.

gobucks96's picture

Some might have said Clowney was bigger than Manziel.. At least to the ones basing off of talent.

chicagobuckeye's picture

I think the one missing from this list that is more known than AJ or TMart is DeAnthony Thomas. I feel as though the media mentions him pretty often as well.

jthiel09's picture

My Buckeye heart says Braxton but the amount of coverage that Clowney gets still for the hit last season and flipping the practice sled (which isn't that hard for most players in college) it is pretty obvious to at least me who it is.

I don't think anyone who isn't a football fan knows Clowney. McCarron made news last year with the Musberger mess.

captain obvious's picture

For an obvious reason. I dont even remember who he plays for.

I'm a friend of thunder is it any wonder lightning strikes me

DJRoss926's picture

There's a football player in this picture?

 Someone's thinking dirty thoughts;-)

Espn loveeeeeees Clowney.
Mccaron comes in a distant second because of his hot Gf and milf of a mom.

I going to make an effort to watch a SC game this yr. I've only seen the one highlight of Clowney and I've seen it a thousand times. I want to check out more of him to see if he is truly legit or a product of the ESPN hype machine.

Because there are only so many days until college football, and any college football is better than no college football, I would suggest the Cocks v. the Heels, The Border War, Carolina v. Carolina, North v. South, $EC v. acc, ugly color of red v. ugly color of blue...
Trying to think of any other way to say it, but I think this is a big time trap game for USC, and think the UNC could pull the upset with a few balls bouncing the right way. USC doesn't have an offense this year, at least one that is well known. I mean Vandy made it tough on them to start last season, could see UNC doing the same thing. Although, it is a road game for the real Carolina.

I agree. The Hit was huge, obviously, and he gets his sacks, but I don't see him as unblockable as everyone would suggest. There were some pretty big stretches in the Michigan game when you weren't hearing his name at all and the Wolverines were having success.

Clowney's HS uniform puts him over the top.

GoldenBuckeye's picture

It is kind of unfair comparing these other college players to a guy who is already guaranteed a first ballot entrance into the NFL hall of fame without taking an NFL snap.

cajunbuckeye's picture

I voted for Clowney, just because I heard he killed a guy from Missagain.

An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches

Buckeyefan52's picture

I voted Clowney, but what ever happened to Sammy Watkins? That guy was pretty famous as a freshman and then I think he got in some trouble last year? Anyone know?

IBleedSandG's picture

He was injured all of last year. I'm not sure what the injury was, but he'll be back causing all sorts of problems for ACC defenses this year.

And its kinda' sad. The clown show in College Station is stealing some love from the Clowney show.

Lol. +1 for you good sir.

ScarletGray43157's picture

I picked Clowney.
He is going to dominate in the NFL as well, sort of like a lean and wiry-strong Reggie White.
Mostly, though, because he is a Michigan Killer.

In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...

thekornidentity's picture

I picked McCarron because of the attention he, but mostly his girlfriend, received after the BCSNCG. Also, some of my idiot friends are those people who only watch one college football game per year, the BCSNCG, so they don't even know who Clowney is so I'm guessing they're are others who do the same.

IBleedSandG's picture

It's gotta be Clowney at the moment. Everyone has seen his (near) decapitation of Vincent Smith.
I think Brax is pretty well know in the CFB world, but I wouldn't say he's famous because that just isn't his steez.

Andy Staples first introduced me to the name Jadeveon Clowney back in Jan., 2011:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/andy_staples/01/18/ncaa-recruits-names/index.html
Funny Name + the Mutant League Football style hit he laid on Vincent Smith during the Outback Bowl = more famous than Braxton.
Even though I know this to be true, I voted Braxton anyway. I'm actually a little disappointed that this site only had a 13% homerism rate as of the time of this comment. That is probably a good thing because it indicates how well informed the 11W community is as a whole, but I don't know...after reading Johnny Ginter's "B1G List" series, I guess I just thought Braxton would win in a landslide on this poll.
Oh well. At least this gives me an excuse to revisit all of Johnny's lists! There are links between the article and the comments if you want to make sure you've read them all (and trust me- you definitely want to make sure you've read them all!):

How/why is Taylor Martinez on this list?

I forgot what AJ McCarron looks like... so I googled his pics..

This is him right???

What about McCarron's mom?

I actually think it's fairly close between braxton and clowney, especially in the midwest.  Being the starting QB for Ohio State gives him an edge for the casual fan over a DE from South Carolina, no matter how great that DE is.

Clowney's 20+ week run atop the top plays for that hit probably does swing it back that way.

Why is Martinez on this list?  It should have been like the heisman ceremony last year where they only invited 3 people lol.

I actually think a guy like Marqise Lee out in Southern Cal probably has more pub
