The summer of Annie Apple rolls on.

Her blinder started in April, when the New York Giants drafted her son, Eli, 10th overall. Shortly thereafter, ESPN came knocking and signed the former general of the Buckeye Moms Brigade to appear as a contributor this fall on Sunday NFL Countdown.

With Eli slowly coming to grips his mom is more famous than him, Annie secured another media venture Wednesday afternoon. She will write a weekly column this fall for Sports Illustrated, where she appeared in April detailing her son's rise to the NFL.

“We are thrilled that Annie is bringing her unique voice to Sports Illustrated’s audience,” Sports Illustrated NFL editor Melissa Jacobs said in a statement. “Annie’s incredible gift of expression is going to add an unprecedented layer to our NFL coverage and we know she will offer insightful and irreverent analysis that will appeal to a range of readers.”

“I am seriously excited to be joining the Sports Illustrated team as a weekly columnist during the football season, providing an authentic voice for sports families as well as a front row seat to the NFL transition for players and families,” said Apple. “Sports Illustrated is the bedrock of sports journalism and has been documenting great moments in sports culture and events for more than 60 years. I look forward to continuing that tradition this season.”

Her new column debuts Tuesday, Sept. 6. Until then, you can find her extended writings on her blog.
