50 wins for the outgoing senior class at Ohio State is pretty special

Ohio State beat Notre Dame 44-28 to win the 2016 Fiesta Bowl.

It was the 12th win of the season, which ties the lowest number of victories the Buckeyes have enjoyed under Urban Meyer in a single season. Read that again and let it soak in.

From Ohio State:

The Ohio State senior class finishes with a 50-4 record over the past 4 seasons -- all under Urban Meyer. The 50 wins represents a record among power 5 schools (ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Pac-12, Big 12) and ties the FBS record for most wins over a 4-year span with Boise State 2011 senior class.

That's an astonishing record, especially considering that Meyer took over a 6-7 team under scholarship restrictions along with a postseason ban. How did the Buckeyes get to 50 wins in four years?

  • 4-0 against Michigan
  • Undefeated (!) in road games
  • Beat every Big Ten team at least once
  • Won Sugar, Fiesta and CFP Championship games
  • Scored over 40 points 30 times

Thank you, Buckeye seniors. And thank you, Urban.
