Kerry Coombs the fastest dude in the secondary.
Mark my words..I don't need acceptance. I'm catching interceptions on you innocent pedestrians.
GO Kerry GO!! He has to be one of the most electrifying coachs in college football
No, no, no...... Swooooon.
Also, I love Coach Coombs!

Kerry Coombs pick 6!!!
I hear Coach Coombs blood is a banned substance because its considered a performance enhancing drug.

Does this make coach Coombs the new 'Most interesting man in the world'? (Sponsored by Red Bull, of course)

Sorry, best I could do only using MS Paint
Was that Paris Campbell playing CB at 1:10?
I believe it was Malik Hooker #24.
Ahh ok thanks.
i think each of these videos has shown Erick Smith doing something positive. Looking forward to seeing what he brings over his career.
is he number 1 on D?
^ best post ever ^

I love Coombs' energy as much as anyone, but the secondary has to produce results this year. #ItAin'tAllRedBull
Secondary looks nasty. What if this defense put it all together this year.... Boy I can't wait

Also, coach with the stuff arm. Would love to play for that guy
Rod Smith's running makes me happy.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Rod Smith is a 5th year senior and in my opinion, the starting job should be his and (in the beginning, at least) he should get no more than 15 carries. When you look at Rod Smith's size, he looks like Eddie George as they both are 6'3", Rod Smith weighs between 230-240 pounds, just like Eddie did. In fact, the only real difference is that Rod Smith uses his legs to make people miss when Mr. George tried to run people over (like "El Guapo" did). The reason Smith tries to make people miss more than the other 2 RB mentioned is because he has true speed and could easily outrun both George and Hyde in their primes after that 40 yard mark. Since he can outrun DB's, he is always a threat to take it to the house. Smith has that extra gear that both Eddie George and Carlos Hyde never had. All were/are great RB's that can get to 40 yards quick, but Smith can run a fast 100 as well. I truly believe that Rod Smith will top Hyde's 2013 season if he gets the carries.
It pisses me off how everyone wasted their time on Jordan Hall, took Hyde's carries away when Herron returned from suspension and when Hall would come back from his oft-injured body (Smith and Hyde were both bigger and faster than Dan Herron and Jordan Hall. We go through all of this and turn our backs on Rod Smith, when he is obviously the man for the job. I'm sorry, but being a 5th year senior makes his time as a Buckeye a total waste. He would have been the #1 back at a lot of good schools as a sophomore and now it is 3 years later. I get it If he has been overlooked because of lack of motivation or not working hard enough, but seeing that he was last weighed at 231 shows me that he has been working hard or is on a no food diet because Smith is a 235-240 pound RB and always has been. Just as he was the 3rd fastest Buckeye in the 40 in his sophomore year. The 2 guys that outran him are both now in the NFL. One was Bradley Roby and the other was Carlos Hyde. They were "unofficial" times, but most of them ran it 4 times so the staff was looking for speed. Smith deserves the first shot.
"I hope they're last in everything"
I wanted to upvote and downvote individual parts of this 800 word college thesis.
The opening about automatically starting Rod Smith because he is a 5th year senior pissed me off. GTFOOH with that shit man! Go back to the stone age!
However I wanted to upvote the part where you mentioned Rod Smith's jets after he makes it past the second level. He does have that gift and upvote to you sir for bringing back memories of Rod completely dusting LBs and DBs en route to hitting pay dirt.
EDITOR'S NOTE: The aforementioned DV and UV negated each other so you, my friend get NO VOTE!
With all due respect, whoever Drayton, Herman and Meyer deem to be performing the best deserves the first shot. Not just the oldest guy because he runs fast and is big. I'd love to see Smith succeed, but if Elliott and/or Samuel are above him on the depth chart, then give them the ball.
Catching up, CGrover's streamofconsciousness posts are becoming legendary...
I'm still optimistic for Rod Smith, and maybe he won't turn in a legendary season when it's all said and done, but I'm hopeful he still makes a big contribution here and there this year.
Wouldn't mind at all seeing him become the running back version of Kenny G...
I'll always look for any positive in any given situation. At the very least, if things for Rod Smith do not work out on the field, he still earns his (maybe he already has and I'm not up to date) degree and offers the world another fine OSU graduate.
(Keep postin' Grove...you have a reader here. +1)
I am not very smart, but I recognize that I am not very smart.
Wouldn't mind at all seeing him become the running back version of Kenny G...
+1 for that, Hove.
Rod smith was shelved primarily for not holding onto the ball. It's hard to capitalize on your talents when you've put the ball on the ground so many times, it's all about trust. He has to regain that trust and be dependable first.
“The minute we stop expecting greatness from our football program, we become Wisconsin.” Craig Krenzel
While we're only looking at snippets of practice, I'm not so concerned with the secondary, as they seemed all around the ball or right on top of the receivers. I'm more concerned with the QB and WR play watching this short video. Big Decker looks pretty comfortable settling in at LT, but there was one OL that got caught leaning on a pass rusher instead of sitting down and the defender pulled on him, then cut inside leaving him grabbing at air.
Can't wait for the 30th to see what we really have this season. One thing I'll bet - our defense will be back to the Silver Bullet style and my hope is that the offense can keep pace with last season, but I'm of the opinion that by loosing 4 OL starters and El Guapo, we won't be as dynamic an offense as last season - hope I'm wrong ....
I think we will see a different offense than last year. The offense this year should resemble more of what Urban had in mind with the spread offense. OSU was mostly a double threat offense with Hyde and Miller. This year should have more multiple threats at a more consistent pace than last year.
"Championships are not won on Saturdays in November. Championships are won on Tuesdays in August." -- Kerry Combs
The awesome part about our defensive line is that they are giving our offensive line great practice reps. It's won in the trenches, fellas.
Let's party, Columbus.
All great stuff, but my favorite parts would be those that show a #5 black jersey getting some actual reps.
Coombs is just pure awesomeness man, love that cat!
Thank the Maker that I was born in Ohio, cradle of coaches, US Presidents, confederate-stomping Generals, and home of The Ohio State University Football Buckeyes!
Can't agree more. Seeing him throw makes me more comfortable.
Anyone else think his mechanics look different than last year? Very short draw back and good step forward as he throws. He still lets it go little low for my taste.
"Good and terrible..."
I have noticed that his release is different------mostly the low part of it.
I think I've seen more pass breakups in these videos than ALL of last season.
"¯\_(ツ)_/¯" - Joey Bosa
Steve Miller made Kyle Dodson look silly with that swim move. Dodson just has not looked like an Ohio State level offensive lineman since he's been here. I hope he puts it all together but I'm not optimistic.
I miss the days during my undergrad at UC when I'd sit in the stadium and watch practice during my lunch... listening to Kerry Coombs yelling and screaming non-stop for an hour or more. While most of my classmates would return to the lab/class ready for a nap, I'd return with the energy of 1000 thunderstorms. Coombs' juice was/is contagious (that doesn't really sound right).
Its a limited look but J.T Barrett looks improved from the Spring.
Leaps & Bounds. I like his future.
He has the best mechanics of all our QBs.
Go Bucks and michigan STILL SUCKS!
For some reason I'm not seeing videos on 11W. Just a black screen flash then nothing.
FIXED..Was something with Firefox..reset and works fine now.

"No matter where you go, there you are." B. Banzai
More pass breakups in that video than all of last season combined.
Although these videos are put out to appease the appetite of the hungry fan I find that they are only increasing my metabolism for what will soon be a feast for the ages. I. NEED. COLLEGE. FOOTBALL. NEOWWWW.
And that Combs guy is a 5 star for sure.
Navy game is going to be a tease. They might only throw the ball 5 times total. I want to see this secondary against a high tempo passing attack. Challenging every pass every catch every ball. Pass break ups,big hits, and jumping routes. Damn I can wait to tee off on the Bearcats and Gunner Kiel in the Shoe.
BRING THE JUICE!!!!
That one shot of Decker blocking Bosa could be subtitled "Clash of the Titans." Would love to see that battle in person.
Does Brazton look right to you ?
I was about to say the same thing... at the 30sec mark, his throwing motion makes me to think that his shoulder isn't fully flexible like it used to be unless he changed it in some funky way... it's not a sidearm throw but not as high as he has shown in the past too... ugh... will the real slim shady please stand up!
"I don't apologize for anything. When I make a mistake, I take the blame and go on from there." - Woody Hayes
He was changing his arm slot to fit the ball in a window. I wouldn't be concerned, the coaching staff doesn't have much to gain from lying about Braxton's progress.
The person responsible for toes clearly wanted you to stub them.
Oh, I'm probably as gullible as it comes when coaches speak - but easy to do when you have a coach like Urbz who speaks the truth. That said, I believe Brax is completely healthy - it's just that healthy doesn't always mean having a full range of motion. Having had a similar surgery as Brax did, I only got 905 of my range of motion back, and his motion kind of reminds me of myself right now... Just hoping the best for him (and us).
That first throw by Brax looks like he's throwing it 100 MPH. Don't think he'd be letting go like that if he were hurt. Good chance, if anything, his throwing motion has been altered a little (by Herman or Whitfield) to make him more accurate. Either that or the video is just a bad angle. Either way, not worried. He doesn't need to throw the ball 50 times a game anyway.
That doesn't look good... looks like the motion someone would make if it was causing pain.
I'm too drunk to taste this chicken
It's just been small snippets in these practice videos, but every time I've seen Jalin Marshall he's looked really explosive. He's seems to have an aura about him that says "great football player".
So Tracy Sprinkle looks like he's doing work #93 long way to go but its good to see him competing.
I like the way J.T Barrett has the ball secured when he runs at the 1:20 mark haha. He needs to show Braxton how to do that.
Seeing Braxton throw passes gave me chills. That is our next Heisman trophy winner (barring injury).
We lose 4/5 of the O-line: We got Ed Warriner to re-stock the shelf.
We lose 1000+ yd rusher Carlos Hyde: We got Elliott, Smith, Dunn, Ball, Samuel, etc...
We lose Philly Brown: We got Jalin Marshall, Johnny Dixon, Dontre Wilson, etc...
2/3 of the world is covered by water.......The rest is covered by Kerry Coombs!

MAKING THE GREAT STATE OF OHIO PROUD
all this talk of concern for the O line has me a little worried...then I remember my fear in 2012 about the same O line and what a beast they turned out to be...I just need to trust in EW and what swagger he can return..is it 8/30 yet?
