Braxton Miller Graces Regional Sports Illustrated Cover

Braxton Miller could be Ohio State's eighth Heisman Trophy winner (more on that from Eleven Warriors later today). Hopefully, Sports Illustrated isn't trying to jinx the dynamo. (The magazine did pick Ohio State to make the inaugural College Football Playoff, after all.)

According to Sports-Reference.com, Braxton's  career completion rate is 59% for 5,292 yards and 52 touchdowns (against 17 interceptions). His QB rating is 146.7.

He's also rushed for 3,054 yards and chipped in 32 rushing touchdowns.

Braxton finished 5th in 2012 Heisman voting and 9th in 2013.

The scary part for defensive coordinators not named Chris Ash or Luke Fickell: Miller's likely saved the best for last.

And this is good luck (not a jinx) and auspicious for a Heisman season—undefeated.

Our honor defend, we will fight to the end !

If you can't win your conference, just quietly accept your non-playoff bowl game.

We should avoid wearing the costume he is pictured in on the cover so as not to enact the jinx.

Hopefully we do get some sweet new "rivalry" jerseys this year (since Nike can't call them, simply, pro combats anymore) although I think last years were the best ones they have come out with so far.

Why cant they call them pro combats?

I love Brax and think a championship (maybe even two) is headed his way this season.  But if I had to pick a Heisman winner right now, it would be Mariotta.  Part of it is that system, and part of it is I just think he is the better pure passer (and isn't coming off of shoulder surgery).  The good news is that I am wrong alot.

I like Mariotta a lot too. I think he could be even more special in the NFL than Winston or Braxton, but as far as Heisman goes I think Braxton has a better shot because he is more consistent. Sure Mariotta has the bigger games but he always has the one game where he disappears and his team loses. With Braxton, in those two loses last year we could easily say that Braxton was still operating on a high level and carrying the team (especially mid game against MSU, he was the only one making big plays beyond 5 yards, what Hyde was getting).

I agree that Mariotta is a better QB all around but Braxton just has that dog in him that helps him compete even in a losing effort. I also think Braxton is a better leader. Obviously Mariotta has the better chance of being special in the NFL.

Mariotta doesn't have Urban. Braxton does. Advantage Braxton.

As long as that thief Jameis Winston doesn't it I'll be happy!

His off field actions have sealed his fate.  Archie and his record are safe, no matter what kind of season he may have.

I sure hope so!

I disagree. It all depends on what the marketing department at ESPN wants to put their weight behind. If it's famous jameis again it'll stand a good chance of happening.

I think it is tough to repeat, especially nowadays. Not only do you have to compete with other players who could blow up like Manziel did the year he won it but you also have to compete with last year's Winston. Winston has to get more yards and look better than he did last year because if he looks a bit less than his unreal season last year, voters will look at others who might have improved more.

I think it is still possible that Winston wins it, but it is really hard to do it back to back like Archie. Hence why he is a god!

Good things coming. Mr. Mojo Risin'!!!

You can feed a bobcat all the chili it wants. That don't mean it's going to crap out diamonds.

Braxton's been on the cover of SI more times than the number of Michigan bowl wins since 2001.

THE BEST cover of all time, in my opinion.

Let's hope he keeps adding to that record number. I can think of a bunch of things that if we're fortunate enough to see would be worthy of additional appearances.

If Braxton doesn't miss any games this year, I think he has a real good shot. Despite some of his weaknesses, he makes voters watch when he does the amazing things he does. I think the real formula for a Heisman is - winning team + comparable stats + highlight plays to wow voters.

I believe the wins and highlights will be there, he just needs a whole season of play to get the comparable stats.

Do we get to claim the September Heisman this year?!?! I'm tired of Michigan winning it every single year.

They can have it!  I like seeing it dissolve as the season progresses.

My favorite is still the cover post-Michigan 2013 - the Gold Pants around Braxton's neck make it untouchable

Does Braxton or his family get paid for these cover appearances? I am sure they are selling a ton of these with him on the cover. If they can't give him the money now, perhaps after he is out of college.
