It just struck me how much I would like to hear Chris Berman say, "Ackerman Road Field...."

Get after it, men!

Why do they go to Ackerman Road Field instead of practicing in the fields outside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center?

jonping67's picture

Because they can silly.

If you watch the camp that was filmed by ESPPPN just before the 2012 season (still on youtube), Urban talks about that. The purpose is to have the team stay at the hotel so they bond more. The coaches stay there too. Kind of "Rocky in Russia" moment from Rocky 4. Nothing but hard workouts, good food, and away from everything else. If not mistaken, there are rules/curfews at the hotel too.

If they don't have footage of the kickers pulling snow loaded sleds and tossing giant logs, I will be extremely disappointed by this years camp.

I preferred my suspensions out of school. I needed to check in on what those Hollywood Squares were up to.

Urban got asked about during his trip to ESPN.  Basically they practice there because the field sucks and they want to make camp really difficult for the players.

Also, don't set off any fire alarms in the team hotel.

You can feed a bobcat all the chili it wants. That don't mean it's going to crap out diamonds.

Go Bucks!!

So the general public could technically just go watch the team practice just about every day when they're at Ackerman?  There's not really any kind of partition or anything like that blocking the field... just might have to do that.

I'll be in Columbus on the 9th to catch the Crew game. I would really like to catch a little bit of practice while we're in town. Have they announced what times these practices are?

Can someone inform me if any of this is open to the public?

Bet you can't say "Bert Bielma is a bumbling buffoon" five times fast.

Where exactly is the Ackerman rd location where they practice so much?  Unless I'm thinking of a wrong Ackerman road, it is a pretty small road and nowhere on it have I ever seen fields where the team could practice.  It's also extremely close to the WHAC.  Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

If you go to this link you can find a map and driving directions to the field from the Ohio State Athletics Website. It is close but it is more secluded than the WHAC.

So we get to talk about football and forget about people who don't exist?

Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...

Ackerman rd... So if memory serves this means they are staying at the red roof inn, and eating raising canes?  Awesome

It's a Red Roof Inn Plus now...they went all classy and stuff.

Found out today you can't just walk into practice. They have guards and stuff (aka fun police).

The person responsible for toes clearly wanted you to stub them.
