Brandon Wimbush Visit Update: No Go?

Quick update on Brandon Wimbush, who has been hoping to get back to Columbus this weekend to check out Ohio State.

"It's not looking so good right now," Wimbush told me about his hopes to visit Ohio State this weekend. "I'm having trouble arranging transportation."

Wimbush, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound signal caller from St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City (N.J.) has talked to the Buckeyes a number of times this week.

"I talked to Coach Meyer and the staff today," he added. "We actually spoke twice this week already so it was limited. They just mention how important I am to their class and that I can make a difference."

While he's not giving up on this weekend's attempted visit, it seems unlikely to happen. Another trip will have to be worked out for the nation's 7th-ranked quarterback. He could couple that visit with some on-the-field business.

"I'm going to have to try for another weekend," he said if this one doesn't work. "I just can't say when as of right now. I was thinking about the weekend of the NFTC and Elite 11 in Columbus."

I think they can for an official visit, but not sure.

The trip is covered for an official visit, which can only occur during your senior year.

Arrange for an alum to conveniently pick up him up hitchhiking in front of his house!

If I picked him up, would it be an NCAA violation?

I was going to ask the same

I would say 99.9% sure that would be a violation, but I do not officially know.

From my house to his HS is only about 9 hours each way though... :)

With earlier and earlier commits the NCAA may need to push up the official visit dates from your first day of Senior Year.

If I leave within the next 15 minutes in my car - I betcha I could arrive in NJ do a 180 and be in Columbus by Friday afternoon.

I'm honestly starting to believe this kid wants to commit to OSU in person.  He has talked about wanting to commit for some time now and he has also said he doesn't want to commit to any school without a return visit to OSU.  He has been to PSU multiple times during their hot streak and has left without committing.  I think he ends up being a Buckeye.

I am actually driving to Columbus this weekend and I live 20 minutes from Jersey City. Wonder if he would like to tag along.... Joking of course

Come on guys, we need to get a car pool together. Nobody should have to drive 9 hours but if we could find 9 people to drive 1 hour, maybe it won't be so bad. How far can he get a "ride" before it becomes a violation? Could he get a ride from several "random" people?

just no stalkers please!

I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!

I've had to make the drive the past 5 weekends from Fort Lee, NJ to Columbus (So I'm a seasoned vet) because I'm on a co-op out here now but I'm still enrolled as a full time student at OSU so I can still play club baseball.

Wondering the same thing about the violation. I obviously don't have a problem taking anyone, (the drive sucks ass and company is nice) but I would believe most people would think that would be some weird shit if I were to take a recruit to Columbus so he could visit.

Also I'm sure his family would like to be there if he were to commit.

The drive is real! I live in Philly and frequent the Newark and Jersey City area often. That drive is as real as it gets! 9 to 10 hours easy. I hope he can find away to make it to 614.

I prefer Wimbush over Gibson as a quarterback, but i think Gibson comes with more possibility ( Christian Kirk, Ricky DeBerry ). However, none of them would step in day one and start over Barrett, or Jones.  It could work out in the end with either one we just need to make sure we dont strike out on a high profile QB like we did last year.

I prefer Wimbush too. Don't feel like getting him would be settling at all in regards to not taking Gibson. I'd be more than happy with either, I just don't want to miss out on a QB and this class desperately needs a leader!

Pick up your feet, turn your corners square! And DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE!!!

I'm going with Wimbush too.  I'm more of a fan of a QB who can throw the ball first and run when needed.  Wimbush seems to be that kid.  GIbson on the other hand is the kid who makes plays with his legs, but will probably struggle throwing the ball for a few year.s
