After a sensational freshman season, Ohio State guard D'Angelo Russell was named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press on Monday afternoon when the team was announced.

Russell was joined on the first team by Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky, Duke's Jahlil Okafor, Notre Dame's Jerian Grant and Kentucky's Willie Cauley-Stein. Kaminsky was a unanimous selection.

It's no surprise Russell earned the nod. He led the Buckeyes in scoring (19.3 points per game) and rebounding (5.6 per game), and was second on the team in assists (5.1 per game). He also connected on over 41 percent of his attempts from 3-point range.

Russell's selection on the AP team makes him a consensus first-team All-American as he was also chosen on the Sporting News, USBWA and NABC first teams.

Russell was also a first-team All-Big Ten selection and earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors as he was the league's second-leading scorer. His 675 points this season were the most ever by an Ohio State freshman.

The outstanding freshman campaign saw Russell skyrocket up NBA Draft boards. Most have him as a top-five pick, should he choose to forgo his final three years of eligibility at Ohio State and enter the Draft.

The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the NBA Draft is April 26.
