Aaron Craft was named Big Ten Player of the Week earlier today, and now his former teammate, Jared Sullinger, has been named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week as well.

The former OSU big fellah averaged 20/12 over the three-game stretch, including a career high 31 points and 16 rebounds in a win over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday.

From ESPN:

Feb. 5 @ Philadelphia: Collected 19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four blocks in a 114-108 win over the 76ers.

Feb. 7 vs. Sacramento: Tallied 31 points and 16 rebounds during a 99-89 win over the Kings.

Feb. 9 vs. Dallas: Notched his third double-double of the week (and fifth consecutive) with 11 points and 12 rebounds in a 102-91 loss to the Mavericks.

Remember when NBA GMs didn't think Sullinger had a position in the NBA? Those were funny times. Man, if only the Basetbucks had Sully for March's run.

To be fair to GM's who do not need fair treatment, the concern was more that he would be a long term injury risk than about his ability to be a short term success.  They may never really be proven right or wrong.  He is exactly the player he has always been and will always be though.  A double-double machine who gets rebounds out of his area and can score around the basket in a lot of ways that aren't high flying dunks.  He should have a long career if he can keep his back strong and avoid any more disc problems.

While the long term injury was an issue, more of the rhetoric was he's to undersized, or unathletic enough for any of the positions. If you told a GM that he was going to be a double double machine in the NBA he would have laughed in your face. So, the fact that he is getting double doubles is the reason that it's surprising.

Four blocks??  Where was this defensive prowess when he was in S&G?  I kid, great to see the big guy having success in the association!

Truly too bad he plays for a terrible team.

I didn't realize he played for the Cavs!

Sullinger and Anthony Davis have improved faster than I expected.

Agreed, both prospects I thought would at least struggle initially in the NBA.

I'm betting the Cavs wish they could switch the year they got the #1 pick.

If only they'd have gotten more than 3 of the last 11...

Yep. Anthony Bennett and Kyrie. That James fellow will never accomplish anything.

Cavs took the older Zeller ahead of Sully, right?

When I walked in this morning and saw the flag was at half mast I thought, "Alright, another bureaucrat ate it." but then I saw it was Li'l Sebastian. Half mast is too high. Show some damn respect.
