Michigan because I want to beat them at their best in November.

But I also wouldn't mind watching Alabama humiliate that school up north.

NO WAY, NO HOW, will I ever cheer for Michelin. I loved it when Toledo(my son was at the game cheering for Toledo, with his Michelin fan friend) and Appy State beat them.

Here's what I would like to transpire: Alabama 17 Michelin 14. Alabama wins by a last minute field goal. Play respectable, but still lose, and then we can see the pictures of the UM fans in the stands with tears and hugging each other.

Seriously though, I'm guessing more like 28-10, Alabama victorious. If Deenard gets hurt though, 28-3.

As much as I'd love to believe that, I'm pretty sure that picture was from the 1998 loss to Michigan State.

That being said, I will never, not once in my entire life, ever root for M*chigan to succeed at anything. I can't believe that some of our fans wish success upon them until they play the Buckeyes. This is f'ing M*chigan we're talking about here! Our disgusting, pompous, delusional rival up North, who relies on poaching coaches and players from Ohio to compete with us.

I'd like to say that I want both teams to be undefeated going into The Game.  I'd like to say that it would be a good win for the big ten.  I'd like to say that.

The truth is, I want alabama to walk off the field and leave michig@n as a souless pulp writhing in misery begging for the end of the season after only one game.  And when the end of the season does come, and they've tried all year to claw their way out of the pit of despair that they were pummeled into so early.  I want to be there.  I want to be in Ohio Stadium.  I want to be there to see them realize doom has arrived for them.

I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.

Why would anyone want scUm to win games? More wins equals more press, higher profile, recruiting advantages and even more bravado. What will you say when we lose a couple of prized recruits to them due to that scenario? See a lot of folks worry about the recruits they bring in now, unfounded given the Bosa/Charlton comparison, but impressive records will make it all happen. Lose every game scUM.

Why would anyone want UM to win more games?

Because the rivalry is better when both teams are elite.  When Ohio State was monkey-stomping them during the RichRod years, the rivalry wasn't as good.

I enjoyed the Appy State loss as much as anyone because it was so unprecedented, but I always want to see Ohio State and Michigan undefeated heading into the last game of the season.

I'm not worried about Michigan's recruits.  If they recruit better than Ohio State, I don't want their recruiting to suffer. I want Ohio State to step up their game.

GoBucksOSU's picture

The rivalry has not been balanced since the Earle Bruce era and that might be the only time the rivalry has ever been balanced. Honestly OSU's games against Wisconsin have been way more interesting.

I hate the SEC and I hate Michigan, but this wasn't a tough decision for me.  I would love to see bama destroy robinson and brady joke in a primetime game.  I'm sick of hearing about them on College Football Live when they don't deserve any of this praise.  They got lucky in so many games last year and somehow managed to win the Sugar Bowl (which they didn't deserve to be in) by beating a mediocre Va Tech team.  I will be rooting bama all the way for one night!

Michigan is my second favorite team. Also, it's in our best interest for Michigan to be undefeated when we beat them each year. Anyone that would root for an SEC team to beat our most important rival, who helps DEFINE who we are is just not thinking straight.

What kind of thinking is that, Scarletgrayfire?! "Michelin defines who Ohio State is?"  I totally disagree with this line of thinking.

That is the thinking of a defeatest mind...the kind that fed the John Cooper mentality...and crossed over into the mind of the players(doubt) and led to his horrible record vs. scUM.

I think Ohio State is better. The State of Ohio is beter. The unis are better. Ohio girls are better. The ROADS ARE DEFINITELY BETTER. Everything is better in Ohio, IMO. They do not define who I am or my state.  Sorry dude, but you are wrong.

I don't know how some of you do it.  My head says "root for Michigan, it's good for the B1G if they beat 'Bama".  But once gametime hits and I hear "Victors" blasting through my TV speakers, I want nothing more than to see them get slaughtered.

I would hate for them to be undefeated, because we can only give them 1 loss.  And with that, they'd be a shoo-in for a BCS bowl.  I understand the thought behind "we need each other to be good", but, dammit, I will not root for them to win.

I want TSUN to be undefeated every time we play them. And I want them to win their bowl games. I want them to know that no matter how good they are they are never good enough to beat "Ohio" or whatever they want to call us. I want their fans excited, confident, and arrogant going into the game every year, then weeping or staring at the ground with heads down as they head to their cars afterwards. And I want the rest of the country to see an undefeated OSU atop the heap and a one loss tSUN dominating everybody but that OSU team that is just too good. I want that every year.

GoBucksOSU's picture

Now all I know how much we all hate the SEC but thnk about it people, A Michigan win will only make their recruiting even better while an Alabama win will just continue the status quo of SEC fans saying "SEC is too fast for you" that we are all used to by now.

I root for or against michigan based on the situation and how it benefits OSU.  Imo, this season a win by michigan over Bama helps them a LOT more than it helps us.  To this point michigan's latest "resurgence" has been mostly smoke and mirrors, a few lucky bounces, a favorable schedule, and jump balls that have come down in their hands.  A victory over Bama would be a real accomplishment and would probably enable Hoke to recruit on actual accomplishments rather than just the vague promise of whatever he believes michigan football is supposed to be.

This is one of those "hope for meteor strike" games.  I'm gonna watch as a CFB fan. It's such an early season game that either team can escape with respectability as long as they don't get beat sideways with an ax handle.

Michigan is your second favorite team? Let me ask you something. Does it hurt straddling that fence?

The pic Hail posted was of Neutron Man! Unfortunatly that was a loss for us. Man that guy was something else! I can remember 2 or 3 times when I was at games and I would go get something to eat and somehow he ended up sitting in my seat each time. He was a really nice man. I enjoy seeing Buckeye Guy but to me Neutron Man was the best!

My first Ohio State game was in 1985 vs #1 Iowa (which we won and I got to tear down the goal posts as a 12 year old...flippin sweet). Anyway, what I remember most about that game, besides the goal posts, was Neutron Man and his dance. I was in Block O so not very far from him. Not sure when exactly the band started playing Neutron Dance but the song was released in 1984. Neutron Man must have started doing the dance almost from the very beginning and completely spontaneously. Pretty cool.

If Michigan comes to The Shoe undefeated and we beat them that puts them at 11-1 and in the B1G championship game... That would almost certainly put them in a BCS bowl game.  First, I'd rather see them go 0-12 then come to us and we make them 11-1.  Second, if you haven't seen their recruiting classes they don't need any help and beating a dominant SEC team like bama would only add fuel to the fire.  Finally, @scarlettgrayfire... How in the world can scum be your 2nd favorite team?  I hate them more than any other team in college football.  I'd like to see them come to The Shoe at 0-11 and us put icing on the cake for a 0-12 season.  I don't ever want to see Michigan win another game.

Bowl game, absolutely, regular season game, not so much.  I rooted for USC and Texas both against OSU even after USC dominated us twice and we lost the heartbreaker against Vince Young and UT.  I will root for Miami, UCF, UAB, Cal, Purdue, PSU, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana.  If I knew in advance that the MSU and Nebraska games wouldn't affect our road to the B1G Championship Game, I'd root for MSU and Nebraska, too.

When OSU played UF and LSU in the title games, the fear of hearing OSU fans rejoicing was exponentially worse than me giving a crap about the SEC being better than the B1G.  I think most of you would agree that if Michigan and Alabama was the MNC game, everyone here would be rooting for Alabama.

Definately Michigan. It would be the big ten cutting off the head of the sec. Plus imagine an undefeated #1 Michigan coming into the shoe to play the undefeated Buckeyes. Then it really would be our bowl game or even national championship. Beating them then would ruin their national title hopes plus possibly give us the AP championship at the same time.

There is no "hate" or "defeatism" involved whatsoever. Strategy and incredible feats of excellence by the Buckeyes and their opponents are what makes football (and college athletics in general) so incredibly powerful to watch. The better Michigan is, the better we have to perform to beat them. To say teams are not at least partially defined by the teams they play, their archrivals in particular, is ridiculous. At the end of the season, all you know is how they played against THOSE TEAMS.

I root for the BIG TEN, and Michigan especially, no matter what out-of-conference opponent they play (except maybe sometimes not Wisconsin : )

M Man's picture
M Man on 4 Aug 2012 - 9:18pm #

This is purely personal, of course, and not even relevant to you; but to me the worst part of the B1G divisional split is the infrequency with which we play Bucky Badger.  That part stinks.  We've had some amazing battles over the years.  The stampeding tragedy in Camp Randall in 1993, back when Donna Shalala was the UW Chancellor, was a 13-10 win for the Badgers -- their first in 12 years -- over Michigan.  They went absolutely out of their minds.  When Michigan visits Madison, it is out of control.  Like a Montee Ball street-fight.

OSUBias's picture
OSUBias on 4 Aug 2012 - 10:41pm #

Too soon and a clown comment on the Montee Ball thing, M Man. Stay classy.

I root for Michigan in theory in every game except for ours. But in reality it's a hard thing to do once the game starts. However, my dislike of the SEC has grown enough to make me really root for Michigan in this one. If they win and start rolling, we can ruin Michigan's stellar season, go 12-0, and gain the mythical split national championship.

I understand it helps Michigan recruiting, I'm supposed to want a meteor to hit the stadium, etc. I don't buy it. We'll get good recruits regardless of how good Michigan is, so I don't think that argument holds up. "So sick of Michigan and hate everything about them" blah blah blah. My reponse to that is simply this: the game is better when both schools matter. It just is. When one school matters, it turns into Minnesota vs. Wisconsin. Oh you didn't know about it? Cuz Minnesota never matters. When neither team matters? It turns into Harvard vs. Yale; matters to the fans of each school, nobody else in the sport notices. Part of why OSU-Michigan is the greatest rivalry in college sports is because it almost always matters in the national title hunt. As much as I'd love for OSU to be in the title chase every year, I know that can't always be the case. But when it's not, I'd love to have Michigan's chances ruined by us. But we can't ruin them if they lose every game. At that point we're just carrying more dead weight in the conference.

That being said, I understand it's a personal opinion, so to each his/her own.

When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
