The biggest question this week is whether the committee got the seedings right. No controversy about whether #4 was right, or team X or team Y getting left out. With that in mind, it was a pretty clearcut year. Except for who is at the top, right? Maybe not. Last week, the margin between LSU and Ohio State was razor thin (2 poll votes combined between both polls). Ohio State gave up a computer point to LSU this week as well as the gap widening in the polls. So we end up with both teams still close, but LSU clearly atop.
For the 6th year in a row, the top 4 teams in the CFP rankings exactly matches the BCS. This year, the order and matchups are identical, which isn't always the case (but generally has been). I have highlighted any difference in ranking in the top 10, and for 11-25, I have highlighted differences of more than 2. Notably, Wisconsin and Penn State are flipped, and the committee does not respect Florida the way the voters do. I also love seeing 2 service academies represented, even if my own (Army) is left out. They can still keep the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy away from Navy with a win this weekend, and they took Michigan to OT, so the season isn't lost yet for the Black Knights.
I haven't yet looked through all the bowl matchups outside the top 4, but Alabama/Michigan is intriguing to me. The BCS, due to poll influence, has a wide gulf between them with Alabama at 11 and Michigan at 16. However, the committee has the teams at 13/14 and the computers even say Michigan is the better team. This could be a program defining game for Harbaugh should he win, and could also signal the end of an era for Alabama. Or it could end up being meaningless, who knows, but don't count out the wolverines in this matchup. Neither team wants to be there, but Alabama has been known to drop non-playoff bowl games (because, you know, having NFL caliber players is a disadvantage since they are preparing for the NFL and not their bowl game. Or something...).
