Jacoby's Ohio State career per toledoblade.com:

He was a two-way player for Ohio State from 1951-53, playing offensive tackle and nose guard on defense. He became one of the top collegiate players in the country, serving as co-captain and MVP of the 1953 OSU team and twice earning All Big-Ten selections, among other honors.

George Jacoby

George Jacoby played on Woody Hayes' first team in 1951.

Jacoby remained an Ohio State fan up until the day he died. Excerpts from Bill Rabinowitz of buckeyextra.dispatch.com:

George Jacoby was watching the Ohio State victory on Saturday when he finally succumbed to pancreatic cancer at age 81.

[...]

“On Saturday, he left us in the middle of the Buckeye game to go watch it with Woody,” Jacoby’s son Jeff said this morning.

Woody Hayes just starting his long Ohio State tenure, and Jacoby helped set the foundation. The Toledo native was a first-team All-Big Ten tackle in 1952 and ’53 and served as captain both years.

[...]

“He was absolutely the ultimate Buckeye,” Jeff Jacoby said. “He was absolutely as loyal and true a Buckeye as there ever was. Literally, the man’s closet was full of red and gray.

During tomorrow night’s memorial service, Jeff said, the “Buckeye Battle Cry” and “Carmen Ohio” will be played.

“We’re going to have him cremated in scarlet and gray,” Jeff said. “He’ll have on a scarlet Ohio State golf shirt and a pair of gray slacks with the Buckeye logo on them. That’s about as good as it gets.”

Jacoby was drafted in the sixth round by the New York Giants in 1954. But NFL salaries were meager then, and he and Nina had Jeff to support. When the Giants wanted him to stay on their taxi (practice) squad, he decided to end his playing career. But even in his brief NFL career, Jacoby had a brush with greatness.
