Nice GSW, like it. Any recruitment news on the future of the buckeyes is glorious news
Lord have mercy, a sophmore that is already 6'5 and 260, I feel sorry for how much his mom must have to cook.
I'm sorry for his mom when he was born. He wouldn't have been a 6 pounder.
My opinion, too early. To much can happen, look at Jordan Whiting etc.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Also players with offers for 2014.
QB William Crest from Baltimore Dunbar
Ath Johnathan Lloyd from N.C.
QB DeShone Kizer will visit Ohio State this summer
Kizer is a beast. I assume we have as good of a chance as any with him. Seem to have a pretty good relationship with Toldeo Central Catholic.
Maybe Dane can get on the phone with him haha.
Team work!!
~Naples Buckeye - "May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't." - General George S. Patton, Jr.
How about a seperate recruiting section like the BBC has, Alex? You know, so folks can more easily cut and paste content. That said, it would also make it easier for folks to help compile information in a more organized manner than you see on the Buckeyeplanet boards, and offer more/better player profiles (the one from hudl was a pretty cool find, GSDub). Maybe even allow people to tag their forum posts about a particular player to help people find new topics on a player of interest, and help reduce redundancies. I just remember during the height of the recruiting season, there seemed to be several of the same how did Player X's visit go posts that people may have missed out on, starting another, well you get the idea.
Just a thought - I know, every donation makes things like this more possible, I'll get on it right now :]
WR Demarre Kitt is visiting Ohio State today
Tyrone (Georgia) Sandy Creek
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 185 pounds
2011 stats: 42 receptions, 651 yards, 10 TD's; punt return for TD
Has offers from Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina.
Also, while he doesn't have an offer yet, it would surprise me if QB DeShone Kizer isn't one of the top targets for this class. Kid is an absolute stud as a sophomore.
BG $
Demarre Kitt liked tOSU but not many coaches were on campus. He liked Cincinnati better and has them in his top 3 with Clemson and UGA.

I have a request to make this a sticky if possible pleeeeease :)
Barker is a heavy OSU lean. I think Barker/Crest would be two very good gets for the class of 2014. Horton is a beast and will probably be one of the top 5-10 players in Ohio.
Does anyone know how the Barker visit went yesterday? I'm sure it was great and we'll know more after the Spring Game.
Apparently it was fantastic. He's an OSU fan and a heavy OSU lean (maybe the first commitment for 2014). I think he and Crest/Kizer will be the quarterbacks taken in this class. Crest and Kizer have the ability and frame (with muscle and weight gain) to be TP-esque in size and strength.
Kizer will be a stud. He honestly could be recruited here for a PG in basketball too. The scary thing is football and basketball aren't even his best sports. He says he's best at baseball

McMillan is a scary player. I really hope we get him.
I'm really looking at this class as the first complete recruiting class for coach Meyer. Obviously he has had a lot to do with 2012/2013 but we can also see the head start other schools got on some of our 2013 targets (dymonte) based on issues with the previous staff.
I think 2014 will be the class that really puts the program into the upper echelon of talent. They get to follow these kids as they come onto the scene and really get 2 years to put in the work needed to attract a #1 class.

I agree Partisan, although you could argue that 2015 will be his first full class, because he will have everyone in place to evaluate the class as they progress through the early high school grades. I still feel like he was a bit late to the 2014 scene, especially with how quickly recruiting unfolds these days.

Slight lane swerve here-but it seems that a number of recruits are interested in majoring in engineering of some kind. There was some discussion of engineering program rankings on some thread a few weeks ago. My question is, I know that one can major in engineering at OSU and have a life outside of the classroom, but that is definitely not the case at some schools- the engineering programs practically exclude any social life because of the time commitment- is this realistically doable for an athlete at other big football/strong academic schools?
Chances are they will not be engineering majors, it's the hardest general subject at OSU.
I highly doubt any football player's ability to do an engineering program at most schools. My roommate first quarter was a second-year ME major, and he literally spent 12 hours a day at his desk re-listening to lectures and studying in order to keep up. And it only gets more difficult near graduation. I don't think these guys will know what they're getting themselves into until they visit a college for more than just football purposes, and they get a dose of reality.
Added unofficial visits for Orlando Brown Jr & Nick Glass for July 9th. Demarre Kitt is also supposed to visit same day but does not hold an offer from OSU.

Everyone is heralding orlando brown as the next pace, but I'm curious as to why the recruiting services aren't.
I don't think he IS the next Pace right now, but he has the potential to develop with some work. He's definitely a bit of a project at that size
The "Next Pace", I don't know about that, but he has the frame to be very good, the guy is huge. I think he has a few "bad" pounds he needs to lose, and work on his knee bend because he is so tall. But I can see him becoming a real force on the OL.
I feel like part of "the next Pace" talk partially has to do with his name being Orlando...Though the kid still has the potential to be a stud
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Any time I see an o-lineman as big as Brown, it just makes me think of Matt Zaun. When he came to OSU in 1999, he was something like 6'7 and over 350 lbs. He was supposed to be the next great lineman at OSU because of his size, but he ended up just being fat, slow, and lazy.
Ausmos; the words fat, slow, and lazy do not exist in Urban Meyer's world.

Only 6 players from Ohio on this entire list?
This list is guys that have been offered thus far for 2014. I would expect it to go increase in number and include more Ohio kids. But yeah, from this list, you can see Meyer is casting out a big net to bring guys to Columbus.
I don't follow Ohio high schoo football real close since I no longer live there, so can anyone explain the current state of it? Is it down or are there just not a lot of top prospects in the state right now?
@TENNBUCKEYE19
I realize what this list is, but thanks for being commander obvious. Out of how many kids... probably a few dozen, only 6 offers to Ohio kids? Yes, I realize Meyer is casting out a wide net.... but to me this looks like he is almost neglecting Ohio. What makes you think the number of Ohio kids will increase in number? Nothing on this list gives me any indication of that.
I actually would expect more Ohio kids to be offered as well. Especially some of the OL (Trout specifically). The more we national players we land, the less ohio players will get offers. So if we strike out on some of our big time prospects, expect more Ohio kids to get offered.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I prefer to go by Captain Obvious.
More Ohio kids could get offers because there are several that the staff is still evaluating and have been told offers could be coming.
I don't know that the staff is "neglecting" Ohio, the talent level may not be what it has been in the past.
The reason there are so many OOS offers right now compared to Ohio kids is because the staff needs to let those OOS kids realize that OSU is interested and to help them become more familiar with the program. The in-state kids don't need that as much. Also the staff is more selective of Ohio kids now because of the recent interest from elite OOS kids.
Once the end of the season hits I would expect there to be a lot more offers to Ohio kids.
I think urban will get the best that want to be here. I agree with @Tenn and don't think it's neglect. I think it's a strategy. The staff knows they can "wait" a bit on Ohio kids. Most of them probably grew up Buckeye fans and can easily get here for unofficials and camps. Our staff can also see them play live much easier and they have great relationships with the H.S. coaches. They show the national kids the early love to build relationships and have a better chance recruiting against their "favorite" teams. It will be interesting to see how much the Ohio numbers change as more and more kids from across the country want to get in on what's happening here. IMO.
*Edit*
It seems @Hayze succinctly summed up what I was trying to say (very slow typer). Thank you.
Here is how I see things, but I'm probably wrong.
I think limited scholarships are playing a factor into this as well and Meyer wants players that will fit in his scheme the best. Which is why you have to go OOS for this for one. Once the dominos start to fall for 2014, and kids start to really commit, this list is going to be chopped in half (maybe more) by the start of next season. Hence, Ohio talent may start to receive offers as Plan B guys. I don't blame Meyer for offering the best, because frankly, he one of the best college coaches. Who wouldn't want to play for Meyer. It's helping Ohio State on a national level, but it does in a way hurt Ohio. Many Ohio kids will be attending Michigan or other B10 schools, but I'm okay with that, cuz Ohio State can establish recruiting in other big states like Texas, Georgia, already has a name in Florida so that isn't an issue.
Hell.. we are 6-0 with Tressels kids.. imagine what we can do with national talent. Don't worry, Urban won't let the best talen in Ohio to leave, unless they want to, but we locked up Burrows, Marshall in 2013. Probably my Top 2 in Ohio. 2014 shouldn't be any different.
But you can't pass up guys like Jalen Hurd etc who have Ohio State as their leader. As of now, there aren't any 5* kids from Ohio, but we need to land Dante Booker, if we get him, I'll be happy. Watkins (no offer) is most likely Illinois bound. Derek Kief (no offer) surprised he has only 5 offers. So I guess you could say Ohio is on the low this year. Let it play out guys. Trust the staff.
Thanks for the reply Gene, very insightful. Jalen Hurd looks like an absolute stud too.
It comes down to where the vast majority of elite talent lies and unfortunately it isnt in the midwest anymore on a consistent basis. What youre seeing from Urban is something i wanted Tressel to do which is recruit like we are a national power and not recruit kids that are guranteed to commit bc they were from OH. Point in case is after we won the title in '02 we signed the consensus 25th rated class in the country .........are u kidding me theres no way if Urban was the coach we sign players like Curt Lukens at safety bc theyre from OH and will commit easily. Im not knocking Tressel as we all know what he did for the program but youre seeing in Urban a coach that refuses to stop recruiting a kid bc hes from SEC country and doesnt seem interested at the start. Urban casts a wider net and goes after almost every truly elite prospect regardless of where they are demographically. Tressel did not do this nearly enough esp when it was evident we did not have the caliber players SEC teams did going into those games. Dont get me wrong i love OH HS football but your kidding yourself if you think this state produces more than a handful of elite kids that would even start on those teams down south. Urban gets recruiting in that u take the truly elite kids from OH then the rest of the class is made up of kids that are elite out of state prospects bc thats where the demographics in recruiting currently reside. Lastly, another thing that isnt helping is we dont have spring football in the midwest so recruits elsewhere have the advantage of playing almost year round hence theyre more developed by the time they hit campus. So with that said, i love where this team is and cant wait for tomorrow night.......go bucks!
I am curious why Dareian Watkins does not have an offer. The kid seems explosive, to play every position on the team, and to be a good kid? Does he have something terribly wrong with him that we can't see? After Booker, he is my favorite recruit of the 2014 class.
@Yankeescum ive seen his highlights and agree theres alot to like but i think it comes down to he really likes the idea of playing QB at the next level. If he came here it would be as an ATH either WR or DB this is the scenario i was referring to in my above post where under Tressel he would prob be a buckeye but right now we are #1 for Lattimore and Snodgrass (the OH elites) and Autry while in the top 5 for Andrews, Davidson, Scott, and Lazard (all OOS prospects) at WR and hes not above any one of the them. As for DB hes behind Nicholson (will be buckeye), Glass, Blanding, the TX trio, Wilson, and Webb not too mention West and Ballew here in OH tOSU is all in their top 5-10 or better. Who is he above out of all of them bc im not a scout but theyre all rated higher. Its what i was referring to in my above post which is im not sure everyone is used to Urban as a recruiter wherehe slow plays kids like Watkins while going hard after OH and national elite. Tressel's approach was the opposite of this and yes it was amazing bc we won alot of games and BIG championships but against elite teams that recruit nationally there was a total talent difference and it showed. No offense to Watkins but under this regime they GET recruiting at a place like tOSU and kids like him are now plan b or even plan c options which is why i always tell ppl thanks for bringing us Urban bc its only going to get alot worse for teams to play catch up so i say buckle up and enjoy the ride IT will get bumpy for everyone else!
I don't know, these are some highlights from this season, and the kids throwing motion is odd, but not awful and the arm strength is there. The kid's burst is pretty good, if not totally elite, and his lateral movement is not bad either. I think that there is a possibility that he ends up being recruited as a QB by us. I think that he has a chance.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUI9YtGf4w8
I think if Dareian Watkins wants to be a Buckeye, he will have to wait a la Darron Lee.
I think most of the top Ohio talent will be Buckeyes. Obviously they didn't get Ferns and it appears as if they trail Notre Dame for Byrne currently.
It's not something to be worried about. The best are heavy OSU leans in guys like Lattimore and Booker and I like where they stand with Snodgrass. Marcelys Jones likes OSU too.
Other guys to keep an eye on are Darius West, Kyle Trout, and Nick Richardson. Not sure where things will end up as far as DeShone Kizer. Think there's a few in front of him.
I think not offering Kyle Trout is crazy. He's the top tackle in the state as I see Byrne moving inside in college. Trout is a top 5 tackle in the midwest & a top 10-15 tackle in the country. He's in our own backyard @ a position that is a huge need especially w/ his size.
I hope we end up w/ Trout, Richardson & Byrne as our OL class w/ a big OOS kid like McDermmott, Knox or Jamarco Jones.
I think we get Snodrass, Jones (OL), Byrne (after he visits for a game or 2), Lattimore, Booker & Watkins (if offered), Richardson (if offered), Trout (if offered), West (if offered), Davonte James (if offered), & Kizer (if offered)

It would be nice if Coach Withers could pull in Donte Williams, Beamer and O'Brien have been really looking at him over the past couple of months. He has improved a lot going into the playoffs this year, even though Chris Francis got a majority of the carries at Hillside. They were eliminated, but that team, and Williams had a solid season.
He is defintely a proposect to look at in that area, along with Braxton Berrios at Leesville Road High School. Urban and Withers have established a good pipeline in North Carolina and hopefully Jamal Marcus, who was recruited from Hillside, can produce more playing time next season at that Sam or Will spots.
Keep an eye on Berrios in that '14 class. He's all speed and has those qualities that fit will as an ATH in the Urban offensive. He also could be solid as a returner, but he hasn't got a formal verbal offer yet.

No insider knowledge from me, but based on things I've heard from other services and the film I've seen on him and others, I'd say Ulmer is probably 6th at best on our quarterback board. Possibly behind all of Watson, Barker, Heard, Kizer, and Allen. Maybe behind Henderson as well

I just noticed that of these 2104 recruits there are only a few actual Ohio recruits.
While I have an inherent trust of all things UFM, I would be remiss if I did not mention some concerns about alienating any Ohio HS coaches.
Anyone else concerned about the lack of Ohio recruits?
I'm not concerned. Meyer has said he will go after the best recruits in the nation, regardless of state. I don't think the Ohio high school coaches would blame him for wanting the best, even if they're not Ohioans.
I'm also sure more Ohio recruits will pop up on this thread as time goes on anyway.

I'm thinking Motten was offered to try and get the foot in the door at STA (pipeline type thing). I know we already have Bosa commited but I am from South Florida and went to Aquinas, they are loaded every year. Urban knows this from when he recruited for UF. Just an idea because i wasn't very impressed with Motten much. Think when he made plays it was because of Bosa commanding so much attention. Also saw the kid lose his cool after a lose and went after a player from the other team only to have him held back by 2 teammates and get brought to the ground by a mother just to stop him. Yeah that's strength but stupidity as well!!

You can imagine the high caliber profile prospects offers are commitable, it's just hard to tell with most of these kids right now. When the time comes to when we can send out the offers officially, we can't really split the offer list.
But usually the ones we keep in contact with the most, you can tell their offer has to be commitable.
