Buzz on Visits

Been working to get as much info as I can on visits. Here is what I got for you guys:

  • Jordan Diamond had a BLAST on his visit. Absolutely blown away. 12 out of 10 on the scale. Bucks definitely trail nobody and it will be a matter of keeping that buzz going before he makes his decision in January. The staff feels like this is theirs to lose.
  • I have been saying for a while that Kyle Dodson would flip to OSU. Back when I first said that it was a bold claim. Now I would be surprised if it doesn't happen. Another GREAT visit for Meyer and the staff.
  • Spoke to a couple players who all think Se'Von Pittman will be a Buckeye. The MSU commit isn't really talking to the media and I don't think you'll hear anything from him until a final decision is made. His coach wants him to keep his word to Sparty, but if Urban will have him, I like Se'Von to the Bucks.
  • Tommy Schutt also had a great time. I was told expect a commitment to Ohio State "within the next week or two". That is a good source and I am going to go with that info.
  • Bri'onte Dunn had a good time and all the current commits were working him pretty hard. Dunn was telling people he's going to work on getting Kalis to flip over to the Bucks, obviously a good sign, although take that lightly they were probably horsing around and Kalis to OSU is dead. A couple of the commits I spoke to all said they think Bri'onte will stay with OSU. Dunn is supposed to visit Michigan next week. let's see if that happens. If he does, I won't be as confident as these players.
  • All of the committed prospects really bonded and had a great time. They all are really excited about playing for Urban Meyer and can't wait to get to Columbus. They are going to try and help the coaches recruit the rest of this class and finish strong. They feel good about all the prospects that visited this weekend.
  • Finally, LB Camren Williams from Massachussetts is visiting tonight and will likely stay a few days. I'll start digging on this one.

I will try to get whatever updates I can for you all. This is what I have for now.

Man, sounds like this weekend went about as well as we could have hoped.   If we can get Diamond and Dodson, I will be very very happy.  Solidifying Dunn would be huge as well.   Schutt is a clutch get.  Pittman is just icing on the cake at this point.  Fabulous icing at that.

Alex, keep up the great work, this info is incredible, thanks.  Any background on the LB from Mass?   This is the first I am hearing of him.

Camren Williams is a 4-star Penn State commit. Real solid player, with good closing speed. Don't know too much about him, other than his father Brennan Williams played in the NFL for a while. I think it's half or step brother, Armani Reeves is also on Meyer's radar and was a PSU commit too.

Talking to the current guys, it appears most of them are pretty confident that Bri'onte sticks with Ohio State.

Urban "showed him soooooo much love." was a common retort.

I am going to drink a celebratory beer right now. If even only some of this post is right, I'm ecstatic. Before Meyer, we were fighting to even keep Dunn and the rest these players were pretty much out. Love this.

I am still not quite that confident that Dunn stays put, I think the relationships he has developed with the UM commits will be tough to overcome.

This is incredible information. Alex deserves a pay raise. Dude has been killing it lately for 11W

The only way that this weekend could've gone better is if all the uncommitted guys had committed, which it sounds like they're going to do anyway. Diamond and Dodson are would be huge gets.

Part of me wants to say who cares about Dunn.  Would love to have him, but he's not neccessary and we can use that scholarship on another LB or another position of need.  I think we can afford to lose him.

What I don't want, however, is for him to go to Michigan and be a star.  He could be a great player at Ohio State, but I wouldn't be so concerned about losing him if he wanted to go to PSU or MSU or Wisconsin.  The fact that he could go to Michigan and be their next great back just makes me mad lol.

Dunn is still in play.  He is just worried he wont be featured in the new offense.  Ohio State is always going to run the ball.

If he goes to michigan he will be kicking himself.  If you want a chance to play for big ten and national titles you go to Ohio State.  Last time I checked scUM's qb lead them in rushing.

Urban still has an in home this week.  Right now if I could pick between him and diamond its diamond.

If we dont end up getting dunn and id hate to lose him to tsun cuz id have to hear em talk **** forever. Do we take another back or do we just fill his spot with another position. If we do take another back what do you know about greg garmon 4* back outa PA 6-1 195 runs a 4-4 and can really make people miss his tape is impressive. We were in his top 5 i dont know where we stand but he may actually fit urbs offense better.

I loved Tressel but I just think the offensive system Meyer runs will open our recruiting up to a lot of great top tier athletes Treseels style of offense , I think, limited us to the types of recruits who would consider us. This changes the game completely. Yeh those three have the makings of a dominating DL. If they dont move Spence to OLB

Set your avi
Osu Lippert7 on 12 Dec 2011 - 12:21am #

Didn't everyone love Tressel lol. The only thing I didn't love or even like was his offense. While introducing everyone to kind of a pro-style offense, I absolutly love the spead. Even if they move Spence to linebacker, I think he could still rush the passer extremely well.

Set your avi
DublinBux on 12 Dec 2011 - 12:23am #

Oh I think he would be dominating there. Prob a better position for him. And we could slide Pittman into that end spot. An embarassment of riches !

Set your avi
Osu Lippert7 on 12 Dec 2011 - 12:35am #

Yeah but, We shouldn't get to anxious Tressel spoiled us, and all this hype has come and we're expecting the world. It would be totally amazing to watch that defense. If we got that talent, imagine what DC's across the nation that had a chance to coach that. They'd be pounding their fist into their head. But, it's all a BIG IF, after watching the Cavs and sorry but I am a Steeler fan, it's taught me to not expect what the hype is saying. If it comes AMAZING, but if it doesn't it won't be the end of the world. Meyer has only had what, 2 or 3 weeks to connect with these recruits. Next year, I believe will bring some speed. I'm hoping we at least get Caleb this year. He seems like the most likely to commit to us. If Diggs or Jones commits, I'll be in heaven.

Set your avi

^Basically what I'm saying through that whole jumbled mess is that I'm hopeful for it but, I'm not expecting it.

Set your avi
btalbert25 on 12 Dec 2011 - 12:43am #

I may be in the minority here but I'll take Kallis, and I'd do it in a heartbeat.  There is no such thing as too many quality O-Linemen and he certainly is that right now.  Look, he's a highschool kid who had a grown man in his ear negative recruiting against the Buckeyes.  If he wanted to change his committment  that'd be quite fine by me.

Jeremy I'm in total agreement about Dunn.  Not so much does it hurt the Buckeyes to miss him, it just helps Michigan a lot.  It wouldn't bother me if he flipped his committment to any school but Michigan.  Truth be told I'd rather have that scholarship for a guy in a different position, especially after I see some of the names who are interested all the sudden.

Set your avi
Osu Lippert7 on 12 Dec 2011 - 12:49am #

Well nevermind, turns out Kalis is solid to tsun. Urban called but Kalis declined. I'd rather have Diamond and Dodson anyway.

Set your avi
btalbert25 on 12 Dec 2011 - 12:56am #

Yeah, I didn't ever really feel he was going to come back.  I think a couple of weeks ago Alex said that ship has sailed.  I really want Diamond and Dodson, but I'd take both of them AND Kalis in a heart beat.  That would be a phenominal O-Line class.

Set your avi

Talent-wise, Yes!!, but after he commited to tsun like that, I wouldn't touch him with a 100 foot pole.

Aside from the fact that it was to TTUN, what was so bad about the way he did it?  Maybe I'm "mis-remembering" but he didn't bad-mouth our program in the process did he?

Set your avi
Osu Lippert7 on 12 Dec 2011 - 1:16am #

M TOTS, You're right, he didn't do anything of the kind but, It was more the timing. I can't blame him for his reasons, too each their own. The way I see it, and I could be wrong but, it's  that he quit on our team when we were down and it looked horrible. Now that  things look good, and if he wanted to come back I wouldn't take him back.

biggy84's picture
biggy84 on 12 Dec 2011 - 1:32am #

He said he wasn't going to pay for someone else's mistakes, and that he was going to recruit for tsun. He also proclaimed the Ohio border open to tsun. In other words, he did run his mouth a lot.

M tots's picture

Right, but that was some time after the switch though wasn't it?  Not trying to defend him at all here... But I would think he certainly burned that bridge between himself and tOSU so to speak. I would not want him back though either.

M tots's picture

I was just trying to clarify.  My original question to you was asking about the way he went about switching his verbal commitment (you had mentioned something about the way he switched).  My point was that the manner in which he switched was OK (aside from the fact that he committed to TTUN).  Overall, he seemingly did it in a respectable way (let the OSU staff know ahead of time, didn't bash the school publicly, etc).

The comments he made weeks later (brought up by BIGGY84) were not OK though.  I don't consider that a part of the switching process since it was some time after the fact.  By that point he was already their recruit and had been for some time.

Given the attrition that has already happened (Taylor Graham) and that which has yet to happen (Dunn, IMO), I would bet that this class has room for 8-10 more kids. I would like to see it filled with 2OTs, LB, 2DEs, DT, and ATHs to fill it out. Please note that I'm a dreamer and the following is a dream scenario (but not impossible):

Dodson/Diamond

Jamal Marcus

Noah Spence/Se'Von Pittman

Tommy Schutt

Cyrus Jones/Davonte Neal/Stefon Diggs/Joel Caleb*

Davonte Neal was bolded because I've been more impressed with his film that anyone else. Drayton was in his home on Thursday and I think OV is scheduled for January. Just take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkxD9nwmxAo

*I think Caleb had his OV to Virginia Tech this week.. Haven't found anything about how it went..Anyone got updates?

Dunn needs to understand that his body can only take so many hits before it is used up. If he has NFL asperations it would not be a good idea to be a 'featured' back in college where he gets 20 to 25 carries a game. That would shorten his NFL career. That is hard to believe when you are that age, you feel indestructable, but it is true. Better to get good coaching, a solid education, and a fair number of carries, say 10 to 15, and be ready to kick ass when it is NFL time.

I think some of us are too hard on Kalis. Yeah he made some mistakes but it doesn't deserve the level of hate directed his way by some of us. He is a kid. You ever make a mistake when you were a kid?

@thirdlegloie

If I were the defensive coordinator for the opposing team in that video at the 3:31 mark, I would have had the defense take their sh!t and head home. Maybe playing the freshman in their place would motivate them to tackle better. He looks as if he could be a game changer. I guess I have to get used to these smaller shiftier type backs and slot receivers.
