I think I might wait until the crowds die down a little bit. Besides people lining up 12 days in advance, one theater is holding an endurance contest to see who can watch the Star Wars movies on a continuous loop the longest.

“We’re lining up for the new ‘Star Wars’ movie,” an Australian woman at the front of the queue, Caroline Ritter, told an incredulous-looking couple visiting from Ohio who stopped to inquire and take photos. “Yes, we still have a very long time to wait,” Ms. Ritter added. “No, we’re not crazy.”

Its all pretty systematic too, "There are rules — tents must be erected by midnight and dismantled by 6 a.m. — and there is a system that allows people to leave for short periods while keeping their place in line; fans take turns managing a clipboard system for checking in and checking out."

Here is a description of the watch till you drop Star Wars viewing contest in one theater.

"There are some rules for winning this contest, of course — sleeping and illegal drug use is not allowed. But since Alamo cinemas include in-seat food and beverage service, contestants wouldn’t even need to bring their own blue milk.

Alamo’s famous no talking or texting policy will also be enforced during the screenings. In the context of an endurance marathon, one expects not being able to talk or use your smartphones for hours at a stretch over days will make winning all the more difficult. Contestants basically have to rely on their own force powers to keep watching the movies the entire time, A Clockwork Orange-style."
