Recruits are bolting from the corpse that is the Baylor football program quickly, but Thursday, the Bears lost one of the best young quarterbacks in the country.

Amid the consternation that resulted from the school's firing of Art Briles for his role in the program's systematic cover-up of sexual assaults, sophomore Jarrett Stidham announced he will transfer.

Stidham threw for 1,265 yards and 12 touchdowns against only three interceptions while completing 68.8 percent of his passes in 10 games last season in place of an injured Seth Russell.

Before he got the ax, Briles said this spring he planned to keep the quarterback competition in Waco open between Russell and Stidham, but the latter decided to take his talents elsewhere.

Can't blame him.
