You've got that right. When we got that stop I turned to my friend and said "They're GOING to run a fake punt". It was way too predictable of a time for them decide to run that, they should have pinned us inside the 10 instead.
That was a tremendous play, but it was his fault he had to make such a great play. He was way out of position after jumping on a fake. Roby relies a little too much on his speed which works in college, but he needs to fine tune his skills a little before going pro. Still think he gets the thorpe though
Completely agree. But, to be fair, isn't this more of an affirmation of his tremendous skill? I mean, here's a guy that can completely bite on a fake--leaving a wideout wide open in the endzone--and yet he has the presence of mind and sheer physical skill to re-pursue the route, and break up the pass--all with his back to the ball!
Yes, it does show off his incredible ability as a corner. Unfortuneately, most NFL quarterbacks won't be late and underthrow that route the way McPickSix did, leaving Roby no chance to make a play. Still think he is a top 5 or 10 corner in college, but another year or two and he could be sitting as a clear cut numer one corner heading into the draft.
Probably has the best chance of any Buckeye to bring home some national hardware this season, barring a Braxton tear coupled with a Collin Klein collapse.
Since 2003 only Antoine Cason and Aaron Ross won the award on a defense ranked 50th or worse. Everyone else has been inside of the top 15, with most winners playing on a team who's D ranked in the top 10.
Not to say that correlation=causation but its hard to say you are the best DB in the nation when you're defense is getting gouged on the regular.
Tough to see him or Hank win anything this year given the troubles the D has had as a whole. I have a hard time believing this D has 2 of the best anything on it at the moment.
Next year, I'd say Roby AND Hank would be their respective award favorites.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Oh I'll agree there but the Bednarik isn't for just DT's. Hankins has guys on that list with him that are having better years on better units. Te'o and Jones immediatley come to mind.
I guess my 'best' comment could have been said better. "I have a problem saying THIS OSU D has the best DB (Thorpe winner) and best defensive player (Bednarik) on it right now.

I'd say Te'o is entirely overhyped. The only category on his stat line that is impressive is his amount of interceptions, other than that he is behind Ryan Shazier in every other category, most notably in tackles, TFLs and Sacks. He's a really solid player, but he's not even outperforming a linebacker who isn't even the best backer in the Big Ten.

Roby*, easy mistake.
Should read ONLY finalist. If he doesn't win this there is something fishy goin' on.
He was a monster. How he disrupted that TD pass in the corner of the endzone I'll never know. Freakin eyes in the back of his head.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Kinda like that fake punt pass that Adam Griffin disrupted? That play was awesome.
Yes. No Doubt. I think 95% of buckeye fans knew that shit was comin. Good for Adam to see it too. And do something about it!

Yep. My neighbor and I had the same exchange.
"Fake?"
"Fake."
(sametime) "FAKE!!"

After watching Jonhathan Banks getting torched by Bama all night, Roby should definitely be in the lead.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Thorpe WINNER!!!

Thank you, Triv. I just commented on this exact same thing under the Tuesday Skully.

Next level coverage maneuver.

Hankins has a possibility of winning some hardware too. He or that kid from Utah are the top two consensus DTs.

I wouldn't say Roby is a Top 5 CB. But I'm pretty comfortable saying Hankins is one of the Top 2 DTs in the nation though, and most scouts agree.
