Yeah, I taped that for Block "O" at the UFMTH. We're (Block "O") planning on doing it; however, unlike "The Hive" it could be fairly difficult to pull off. The quick cals are fairly difficult to pull off physically (remembering, etc), and it may not be until late in the season until it looks/sounds good. With "The Hive" we just moved and swayed and yelled, this is a little more complex.
The key is the whistle and vocal commands from the coaches, which may be difficult to reach considering stadium noise, the new sound system (which is on the south end), and people not paying attention.
We'll give it our best shot though, it could end up being really cool. I think the first few games people are going to be confused.
Edit: I'll post videos of this type of stuff at the games (along with card stunts, new cheers, etc). I should have some pretty good taping angles.
Urban Meyer expects a lot out of his student section. If any fans can pull this off, it HAS to be the Buckeye student section. Aren't you up to the challenge?
If this was the attitude of the Buckeye WR corps, we'd be in trouble! ;)

I was at the town meeting too, I thought it would be cool if they got all the students in the stands to actually do this...however I think its just way too complicated to pull off. So I don't see it going well.
Speaking as a fomer BLock "O" officer, this will fail and fail misearbly... getting the students to do ANYTHING is a chore in itself... get them to show up early and sober enough to do something that demanding both mentally and physically?? Forget about it
I know you are, the current ones always are... You just also need to be realistic
I hope you're going to the vball game tonight, Pejsa passed along the new DoVO's number to me and I left him a message wishing him good luck. I miss volleyball something awful...
Unfortunately I have to work, but the DoVO is going to be really, really good. Also to update you all, we're seriously considering having Quick Cals and then immediately going into a student led hive (since it was a Lichter, not Tress thing and likely pending Hell's Bells).
He better... it a position of prestige... I should know, I was the first official one (well, technically second, but first elected)... the original (a close friend) and I built that section with a lot of time and work. It takes a special type of passion to lead that section.
I wish I could go back to school so these are the things I could worry about. Please don't take my comment as negative, I am being serious and I am highly jealous.
I think this is going to fail miserably too. It's really just going to show how uncoordinated the whole thing is going to be. Too technical and quick. With most students already having a 6 pack down before a noon game, I think hilarity is going to ensue. Keep the HIVE !!!
I think all that needs to be successful is the yell at the beginning and the claps. If they can do that, which should be somewhat reasonable, then it will look and sound pretty awesome.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, are you saying Neutron Man is on the low end of the spectrum and that Buck I Guy rates higher? Blasphemy. I love Neutron Man and while i have no ill will towards Buck I Guy, they just doesn't compare. But yeah, I'm not wild about this either. The Hive was simple and looked good. Also, it made a nice snippet on preview and highlight shows.
Well consider the student section is typically half full (if that) with 23 minutes to kick off...and I'd say 50%+ are drunk...and remembering all the hand motions/yells/etc. by itself is no easy task...this could take awhile. Good thing is there are 4 home non-conference games. Beau Bishop had a really good take on all the pre-game festivities. Our "tunnel" really does suck since there's the initial reveal (since the actual red cover is so narrow)...then the burst onto the field - which kind of loses its awesomeness since you can literally see the entire team.
Anyway, would be cool, but not likely to catch on.
I seriously doubt that this becomes a longstanding tradition. Not that it's not awesome and gets you pumped. Which it does. But it requires a coach to do it, and future coaches probably won't.
Mickey may be asking a bit too much from Buckeye fans/students at the outset. After last season the first thing supporters need is a refresher on how to clap.

Reviewing these moves it's pretty easy. Scream, get in stance. clap a few times. Then everything is in 3's....2 slow followed by a quick (hands up to head on the whistle, hands down on the whistle, then a quick up and down) followed by a ready ready (clapping) then you just move down. So your first 3 "movements" are to your helmet, then it's your arms out, followed by your hands down to your knee pads. Pretty simple thinking about it...but getting thousands to do it unison, ehhh I don't know.

I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.

What's up with all you doubting Thomas'?

Yep, same thing there....this is a video message he just put out though

I agree with you 100%. If pulled off it would be epic, it's just going to be very hard.
it'd be cool if they did that, then lock arms and do the swarm
They aren't continuing The Hive :\
Shame. The hive was cool. Is that because it was a Tressel thing?
I have no idea. From what we've been told, it's been discontinued. I think it has to do with the new strength staff.
Yeah the Hive was awesome, too bad they're not doing it. The quick cals thing is really lame, and it's not going to catch on.
I thought that was boring and complicated. The Hive is the best entrance in CFB IMO. Solidarity, unity, rhythmic swaying, what more do you need?
I liked the Hive, but I think in time this will be cool once it becomes traditional. That many people in unison will be awesome.

Cause I couldn't go for three
Speaking as a current one, we're optimistic but know it will be hard.

You got that right buddy. Damn, do I miss those days? Yes, I do.

On a scale of Neutron Man to Script Ohio. It's about a Buck I Guy.
I don't hate it, but it doesn't really feel authentic Ohio State.

Buck I Guy has a pretty sweet ride....

Didn't Urbz do this at Florida?
If it's the same, I'd rather he invent something more specific for Ohio State.

I thought he did do this at Florida. If SEC students can do it, we certainly can lol.
If they did this at Florida - then it really shouldn't be at OSU IMO...

I think the idea of connecting the team with the rest of the student body is great.
But couldn't they just do a few rounds of "O H I O" with arms overhead?

Well we're doing it largescale (at least a couple thousand) tonight. I'll post a video if there's good enough lighting to actually see it.
Please do, I'm skeptical right now, but curious to see what it looks like with everyone involved...
Regardless, very disappointed about the hive though...

Heck, we've never been able to clap right... just getting the students to clam in rhythm to the Buckeye Battle Cry is a nightmare
Cause I couldn't go for three
as a current student....not gonna work...
might as well do jumping jacks

Step one: Have students in their seats 23 minutes before kickoff.... DERP.
I may have to eat my words above. Block O is showing some serious pre-season organization and enthusiasm. GO BUCKS!
The guys did great, judging by the video. But it's still lame.
