It Will Cost Bobby Petrino $10 Million to Leave Louisville

Doesn't Matter. Had Sex.

As Chris mentioned in today's Skull Session, Bobby Petrino is replacing Charlie Strong at Louisville. Like any guy taking back the hot girl who ripped their heart out, they're crossing their fingers it won't happen again, but unlike that idiot, they've got Petrino under contract. From Petrino's introductory presser:

That's a whole lot of cash for a potential employer to drop to get Petrino out of Louisville, so it's doubtful anyone but Petrino will be footing the bill should the career gypsy decide he needs a change of scenery.

Can you please repeat the question?

He'll get it lowered before the end of the '14 season.

It don't mean thing if he's successful and somebody really wants him 10M is chump change now days. If he fails they sack him and go on with their plan.No biggy either way. Just for show to pacify the idiot fan base, just like any other big bissy. GO BUCKS!

I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

Or, he'll find a way to get fired, possibly crash the program down around him, so he won't have to pay the $10 million.

Unky Buck's picture

But that's the thing...if he makes himself look bad, how does that help him get a new job? If Louisville crashes and burns, who will want to take him as their next head coach, even if he is canned?

Well we know Petrino can survive crashing.

who will want to take him as their next head coach, even if he is canned?

"There's one born every minute."

He's a good enough coach that he'll find another WKU type situation.

I said this way back when he got hired at WKU, but a school like that needs to take a chance on a guy like Petrino. It's a high risk, high reward situation that these smaller conference schools need to take in order to try and make a name for themselves. If it works, fantastic! If it doesn't, you're in no worse shape than you were prior to it. It is clearly hypothetical, but the more burning of bridges that he does, the less likely of a chance he has at landing at a school from a major conference.
You are right in your assessment, though. I should've just been clearer when I asked who will take him. I meant major schools. Some lesser team will take a chance, but for a major school, I think they wouldn't even want to touch him with a 39.5 ft pole at that point.

Never underestimate the power of winning. Even after the way Petrino left Atlanta, and Arkansas, he's still considered a hot commodity in coaching. Unless he commits some kind of heinous crime, someone will always give him a shot.

This guy just epitomizes sleaze. Forget the whole motorcycle, how on earth can this guy recruit anyone at this point? He left for greener pastures to Atlanta, left for Arkansas when things went sideways, left WKU for greener pastures. How on earth can he expect or preach commitment to any kid he sits in front of ever again?

The same can be said about any number of coaches. Saban and Meyer have a similar track record of jumping jobs if you think about it.  Are they not to be trusted?  Is one trustworthy but the other is not?  Does the answer to that question depend on what team you support?

They really aren't. College coaches are always looking for the next big challenge. Meyer appears to have found his home and Saban his, but the desire to move is always on their mind.
Neither of them quit on a job halfway through the season, however.

Petrino has demonstrated that he can coach and recruit.  Let's see if he still has it.  It would be hilarious if Louisville beats Florida State next year.
