Florida State Ends SEC Title Streak; Now, Let's Playoff

Jameis Winston's postgame interview was #turnt

The SEC's championship streak is dead.

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston found Kelvin Benjamin for a 2-yard touchdown with 13 seconds remaining to give rise to the A-C-C chant.

As you'd expect, Dixie is having a hard time with it. Not long after Winston's postgame interview, Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron's mother dipped her feet into the casual racism pool. Minutes later, SEC commissioner Mike Slive dusted FSU's celebration with some cold, hard talking points.

The SEC's unprecedented string of consecutive national titles in the BCS era will be an enduring point of pride for our entire conference and we look forward to competing for more championships in the College Football Playoff era. Congratulations to Florida State on its national championship and also to Auburn for a truly magical season.

Damn, son.

But the night wasn't all shade. That dreaded streak is over, as well as a related curse (we hope):

Oh, and this time next year, we'll be in the thick of a college football playoffs. PLAYOFFS!

Time for the B1G streak. :)

I'd like a B1G streak where every B1G team actively rooted for each others failures. Also the B1G championship streak consisted of 10 OSU championships.

My response:

Dear Mr. Slime, Slive, whatever,
Your conferences unprecendented level of circle jerking each other is over. You better batten down the hatches, Urban is coming.

Jameis is truly famous

Are you saying that Winston isn't borderline unintelligible?

Jameis does talk like he has a mouth full of shit. Not sure what's racist about saying that. On a side note, Jameis looked slow as hell when he ran. I always thought he was an elite athlete but it didn't look like it tonight. Dude can throw some leather though.

We know from experience what the Fat and Happy Heisman Celebrations Tour can do to  otherwise elite athletes

Winston is one of the top qb prospects in America, and plays baseball for one of the top programs in America also. Already been drafted by the Texas Rangers, and would have been drafted higher if not for the football. He is without a doubt an elite athlete.

Racism or not, looks like a classic case of silicone poisoning to me.

No judgment here, as the famous philosopher Tony Baretta used to say, "If that's the bag you're in, then that's where it's at for you".

As a person that absolutely despises the SEC, you would think i would have been cheering my ass off for FSU but that wasn't the case. I'm a huge fan of Malzahn and the way he runs his offense (very similar to our style). Plus I still can't get over how shady the whole Winston situation was handled. This game was crazy though, Marshall did a great job of throwing the ball and as always him and Mason were shredding defenses on the ground. Winston was absolutely rattled, there were open recievers every where and he was not trusting his reads. Benjamin and the other wideout (can't think of his name) were awesome tonight.
Tress probably smiled watching this game because it all came down to special teams in the end. Auburn did an amazing job pinning FSU deep almost all night but that's where the advantage stopped. The missed field goal and FSU getting the fake punt kept them in the game. The return was crazy in that a Tiger pulled his hammy and it all fell apart from there.
All and all the streak is over so I guess tonight was a success.

I had similar feelings, but in the end the SEC not winning another title, and hearing the chants of A-C-C definitely confirmed my one-night FSU allegiance was the right call.

I am a modern-art masterpiece.

I wish I could upvote this again.

"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.

Not seeing the racism in that comment.

Agreed.

That's because it's so casual about being racist. *eyeroll*

Except now they say since FSU was built to be an SEC team they still count it as another win for them.

lamplighter's picture

Right - I saw one comment hat welcomed FSU to the SEC.  The hubris never ends

causeicouldntgo43's picture

Agree. How in the hell did the narrative on FSU get to "they're built like an SEC team"? Probably Finebaum started saying it and it caught on.....

Winston is now on Ray Lewis level. Escape a major crime and then become a champion

I really see nothing wrong with the content of what the woman said, though it certainly comes off as "sour grapes" due to her son's recent exploits in the same game and failure to make an appearance this year. She isn't tweeting about the man's race. She's tweeting about his ability to be understood. One could make similarly derogative remarks about various accents (accents from deep in the Appalachian mountains come to mind) which would be just as accurate. Referring to the comment as "casual racism" is wholly unfair. Race was not mentioned and you are not a mind reader. Of course, if you're saying that you know this is casual racism because ALL or MOST white women from the South are casually racist, well, what casual racist can argue that solid line of thinking?

BucksFan2000's picture

If you assume she meant a black person when she referenced his poor speech, doesn't that make you the racist?
I'm not trying to defend the lady.  As the mother of an Alabama player I'm sure she's a horrible excuse for a human, but still, she seems to just be stating a fact.  Sour grapes or not.

Bingo. Thank you. I'd upvote this if I could.

Stupid thing to say. But where are we, as a society, when we're watching what a college quarterback's mom has to tweet?

Buckeye Scottie's picture

Granted I am not an avid Twitter user, but I have yet to see ANY value in tweeting.  Outside of media types breaking stories/reports (even that can be 50/50), I just don't see the value in Twitter at all.
Now excuse me while I get back to MySpace....
