Right. He doesn't look sick to me. But his boogie board skills need work. Good thing he didn't go to The U.

He took that hit like a pro with a smile on his face.

Am I the only loser praying to the football gods he doesn't (insert terrible injury here) on that thing?

I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.

Knarcisi's picture

Not at all. I said in another thread that this is a really dumb way to get hurt.

BuckeyeMark's picture

would upvote this if it had grumpy cat.

Obviously you have not seen the Surgeon General's report: The Most Dangerous Activity On The Planet; Why Skimboarding Should Be Outlawed And Other Apron String Tips For Helicopter Parents. Seriously, UFM should be fired for letting the players out of their hotel rooms without their Michelin Man suits. Hopefully, he is at least making them go with out showers so there is no chance of a slip and fall in the bathroom (most dangerous room in your home). And why are the players allowed anywhere near the water? There are sharks, jellyfish and stingrays in there, any of which could keep a player on the sideline. C'mon people, let's use some common sense!

Well, if they had a stomach flue and Diarehha ,then the ocean is the best place to be in.

I happened to break my ankle attempting the same stunt a few years ago -- now I am the proud owner of six screws and a metal plate holding everything together in that ankle.
If you know what you're doing, give it a go... but if you're like me and are terible at all balancing based sports, avoid at all costs.

JozyMozy's picture

About a dozen screws and a long plate on my left humerus from a freak benchpress accident here (seriously- my surgeon had never seen anything like it.) Keep them out of the weight room!
My point is that things happen. Worry about him getting hurt in practice before you start poo-poohing silly things like this.

Bucks777's picture

Getting hurt in practice is 100% acceptable, getting hurt doing this stunt before the biggest game in your career ,,,,,______________ (I'll let you fill in the blank) I appreciate; and like Braxton too much to say anything bad or negative about him.  However even he knows the answer....

Robbitect's picture

You are missing the point -- there is a difference between freak accidents that could happen anywhere (terribly sorry about your injury amigo, sounds wicked) and participating in a high-injury-prone activity that you are not there to be doing in the first place.
Plus, like I said before, if you happen to be skilled at skim boarding (totally different than boogie boarding btw) then it is probably all fine.

JozyMozy's picture

It's all good, I understand where you're coming from. Upvoted for a well-espressed counterpoint.
re: arm injury- here, have an x-ray. woo!

klfeck's picture

Obviously this injury was the result of you not practicing proper ambidextrous fapping.

Ahh, skim boarding.  I passed many a family vacation to Florida with those...

I am sorry to say that I threw away 5 million dollars away,,,,because I decided to skim board a few years back...

Jeez, that could have been a broken or bruised tailbone.  I'm probably just jealous because it's like 19 degrees here in Cleveland

The postgame show is brought to you by... Christ, I can't find it. The hell with it...

bigbadbuck's picture

with out the wind .Next Tuesday we are going to get up to a toasty 6 degrees and low of minus 2

Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.

I'm just glad to see those guys out there having a good time on their bowl trip.

used to LOVE skim boards when I was a kid!

Yeah, but if it doesn't improve next year he'll never go pro. And he has good balance but his decision-making needs to improve, too...Hyde probably should have been given that skim.

Not sure how smart that is but sometimes you forget what a physical specimen the guy is.  Just came up from my basement after a one hour weight lifting session, felt pretty good about myself but I sure don't look like that in swimming trunks.  Oh well, have a daughter his age and there is only so much you can do about genetics.  Stay healthy Brax, hopefully a good mixture of preparation and recreational de-stressing and on Friday take care of business.

Urban just muttered an expletive.
Back in the day, Woody would have surmised that the opposing team 's coach planted that kid with the skim board.

There is a picture gallery on another free Buckeye blog that shows them also playing, gasp, beach volleyball. It was a day at the beach with food, volleyball and water activities. UFM and the other coaches were right there with the players.

People skim board, and fall off all the time guys. They're on a school funded football vacation. If he gets hurt doing that so be it, stuff happens. It's not like he's pulling a Kellen Winslow and doing stunts on a bike he doesn't know how to ride. It's skim boarding folks.

@ PITT BUCKEYE
Reality is they are not in south Florida on a paid vacation by the program!  This is absolute ridiculous thinking ....REALLY???
They are in Florida to compete for the ORANGE BOWL and to REPRESENT the BIG 10!!!
Serious stuff, yeah:
1) Ohio State has to win this game.
2) Braxton biggest game of his career.
3) Vacation Definition:  holiday or specific trip, or journey, usually for the purpose of recreation or tourism, such as a short pleasure trip, or a taking off from work or work environment for seeking pleasure. ( Wikipedia)
4) So Ohio State Football is in south Florida for a time of leisure, taking off from task at hand, sight seeing, tourism..???  Really.
5) This game is important on so many levels: BIG 10 Representation, Biggest football game in his career directly affects his draft stock this year and next.
6) Stuff Happens: WOW, so I guess it would be ok for them to all go get skateboards and skate around and have fun, if they get hurt oh well, just part of life, no  big deal.
7) If he would have hurt his knee on that little stunt, we would be having a completely different thread and post probably something titled: "What was Braxton thinking?"
This is not a school funded vacation , sorry to burst your bubble.

Have you heard of business and pleasure trips. The best.Old Woody would be taking his players to all the Museums ,historical places, and whatever is unique about the city they were playing in.He would teach them and give them some historical background about these places.OH MY."The Times Are A- Changin".

Just so you know, Miami is ALL ABOUT THE BEACH and night life...  Did you want them clubbing into the wee hours of the am?

Maybe if he gets hurt on the skimboard he will come back to for his senior year.

I don't care what the players do, have fun. But, I believe skim boards are made/designed for younger children. It's kind of a "gateway" toy for those that can't swim strong enough in the ocean to surf. (Or for tourists) but once a local is too heavy for the skim board and takes to surfing, they look back at skim boarding like riding a bike with training wheels.

st pete bch buckeye's picture

Skim boarding is for areas without waves big enough to surf.  You can bust your ass way worse than what Braxton did.  It wasn't bad for a kid from Ohio imo.

Bucks777's picture

again if he gets injured on the Skim board; it becomes a completely different post altogether/
Most people would be agreeing: "why did he put himself in that situation", "Why did the coaches allow him to go do that?", etc...

Paulillo's picture

Let's talk about something important - did somebody grab Braxton's t-shirt before it went out to sea?

Bucks777's picture

My thoughts...
MSU went to Pasadena to take care of Business, and that they did.  Most people thought they would lose, they didn't they were focused on the task at hand.
MSU players watched filmed, studied more film, practiced, practiced, had meetings with coaches, practiced, more game film of Stanford, practiced, meetings, focused on winning.
...Did I mention that they did not go to the beach, or have any festivities until after their WIN!!!

They went there with a purpose, and were focused on the task at hand in beating Stanford the PAC 12 Champion!  They succeeded because of their work ethic, drive, and focus!  The "Eye of the Tiger"
They didn't go out and play volleyball, go beaching, or skim boarding, no they focused like Rocky Balboa before his fight with the Russian!  Mental toughness is 90% of the game's outcome! Always has been always will be.. The team that focuses and prepare's themselves mentally for the game, has a huge advantage over the other team!
Bottom line, you practice, practice, practice, game film, etc... preparing every second to win against Clemson, and then after the game is over...Take the team to Disney Land in Orlando for a couple days off; and  reward them for a job well done!

...just my 2 cents.

You should look at the internet before you say stupid things.

...Did I mention that they did not go to the beach, or have any festivities until after their WIN!!!

Work Hard = play hard.

Prior to game, it is all work hard,  after game.....  Play Hard!!!

Bucks777's picture

10% of the football game is physicality, the other 90% is focus and mental preparation, just ask Dantonio.

Bucks777's picture

....Until we get the "Eye of the Tiger" Focus back; we will have 4 & 5 star players, playing as though they deserve to win, versus we are going to win!
