Video: Marcus Hall, Dontre Wilson Ejected for Brawling

Following a Dontre Wilson kick return, Ohio State and Michigan players decided to get chippy. Punches were thrown, flags were tossed.

The Wolverines lost a backup lilnebacker, while Marcus Hall, the starting right guard for the team, and Dontre Wilson, the team's top returner, were ejected for the Buckeyes.

Hall, clearly agitated, threw his helmet and gave the Michigan Stadium crowd the double salute on the way out.

Hall is not thrilled.

Hall and Wilson won't be affected for the B1G title game vs Sparty - as Holly Rowe reported a few minutes ago.

NCBuckeye1's picture

Only issue I may see is if the B1G decides to add some discipline into the proceedings. Who knows with them.

Or if Urban does, that wouldn't surprise _e.

Hovenaut's picture

If they (B1G)  were to do that, after passing on doing anything about Lewan versus Sparty, it would be complete, unadulterated bullshit on their part.

buckeyedude's picture

Great fricking point, Hov! I think you should represent OSU at the proceedings. If there are any.

RedStorm45's picture

Incorrect. Conference will review after getting officials' report and usually issue a game suspension for a punch thrown.

SensibleBuckeye's picture

Game suspension?  If that's the case then what's the point of the 2nd qtr. ejection?

HighBallAce's picture

Thank you for that answer Hov!

Riggins's picture

That was some bullshit.  Unless two guys are going at it MMA-style, you don't eject during a rivalry game.  It's going to get heated out there.   I hope these refs realize they robbed a senior of his final game at Michigan.

GABuckeye's picture

You forgot your sarcasm font.  Is this serious????? Hall came onto the field and punched someone.... Suspend him!!! That's classless and if you want to be associated with that so be it

4thandinches's picture

He is defending his teammates. I would want Hall on the sideline coming in to defend his team.

I wasn't born a Buckeye but I became one as fast as I could.

wojodta's picture

No one was hurt so who cares. The punishment should be based on what actually resulted from this not what might have occurred. No more punishment should be necessary.

buckeyedude's picture

I think more credence should be given to the player that instigated the incident. To me, that looked like the #52 wearing the Sun and Bloo.

Seth4Bucks's picture

It looked like Wilson _ight have been horse collared or was pulled down by his face_ask as he returned the kick. I didn't get a great look at it and they didn't go back that far in showing the replays. Whatever it was it didn't look like that tackle was a nor_al wrap up. Did anyone else see this or a_ I just i_agining things?

NH-IO's picture

Wilson was taken down by his face mask initially, that's why he was hot.  Ref's totally missed it though it was very obvious.

Seth4Bucks's picture

Yea I thought so, but the refs didn't catch it and no one in the booth _entioned it either. So I thought _aybe I was seeing things that weren't there.

ticodillo's picture

dude was totally _ugged by 6 wolverdorks

BuckeyeAZOH's picture

This fight was the officials fault. HE was right there and allowed the scum players to surround Wilson after the tackle. We got the bad end of that. However don't throw punches.

Purple Raider

Bucks43201's picture

exactly...they surrounded Wilson like a pack of dogs...still, we've got to be smarter not to fall into their traps

ticodillo's picture

dude watch the video Wilson is getting held by our guy (to get him out ) and he was punched by multiple wolverdorks. this is outrageous !!

lljjgg's picture

Not smart. I get there's fire there, and I appreciate that, along with the fact that players were throwing punches from Michigan's team as well, but you have to separate yourself from the situation. Hurts your team in a game when they really could need you.

I'm sure the coaching staff will coach 'em up. Marcus Hall is a senior, he should know better. But I'm sure Wilson will get a talking to from the staff and he'll avoid this stuff in the future. Just can't put yourself in a position to get ejected in a game with this level of importance.

KLF Buckeye's picture

Agreed. Fight like hell, but stop at the whistle. Winning the game is more important than winning a scuffle.

Jonnferrell's picture

Well, they have to let you stop at the whistle.  That whistle was long gone when they surrounded Wilson like flies on a picnic lunch.

KLF Buckeye's picture

That fact is not lost on me, but if we don't escalate the situation I think we end up with yardage gained and scUM players ejected, not ours.

Bucks43201's picture

#34 for scUM fired the first shot there...he should have been the first player ejected

Blame the  referees ,after Wilson got  up he was surrounded  bye  6  wolverines tried  to get out  they would not let him the older  referee was late to break it  up.
Number  44 should have  been ejected also .

razrback16's picture

Don't see how Dontre Wilson gets ejected for defending himself from about 4-6 guys who were attacking him repeatedly from the time the play ended until the time he was separated. Awful officiating. At least 5-6 Michigan players should have been ejected.

GABuckeye's picture

You can't be serious.... He punched TWO people!!!! How are you condoning that????

4thandinches's picture

Because he's defending himself. What would you do if someone grabbed your helmet and tore it off your head? Have you ever played football? Do you know that that feels like your head is coming off your shoulders? And it was intentional, purely done out of hate.

I wasn't born a Buckeye but I became one as fast as I could.

BME_Buckeye's picture

Didn't Dontre punch a guy who wasn't responsible for yanking his Helmet? That's not defending yourself.

Look closely, because the closer you think you are, the less you will actually see.

Bucks43201's picture

even though Marcus Hall's exit antics weren't a wise move...admit it - that's a dream come true: double bird salute to the entire scUM crowd. hahaha

I needed a new desktop background. Anybody have this in super hi res?

I don't think anything could replace my Idiocracy wallpaper (Upgrayedd with the military general behind his hoopty), but this is definitely a strong candidate.
I'll link to the image because so many smart folks are likening Hall's gesture to the one President Camacho made.  There must be an Idiocracy fan or two around.

KLF Buckeye's picture

My only worry is if Meyer decides to penalize Hall for the double one-fingered salute. Even though I do believe that to be the appropriate way to wave at the crowd in the big out house.

BuckeyeDynasty's picture

Its Bullshit, all you need to watch is the first 9 seconds of the video, Michigan surrounded dontre after the play was dead, and started getting in his face and talking trash, dontres teammate came to pull him out of the group, apparently this made the Michigan players angry, so they start grabbing facemask and shit. Conveniently it only cost them a back-up linebacker, and it cost us our Return specialist/offensive weapon, and a Starting O-lineman.
This seems kind of coached to me.

JJB's picture

Us 5-10, 174 lb dudes are very intimidating I know.
Disclaimer, I'm actually 5-9, 172.

george_buck's picture

It looks like Michigan was trying to start a fight. The Michigan players in unison surrounding Dontre looked very planned.

Jonnferrell's picture

How does #44 not get thrown out?  I don't blame Wilson for fighting his way out of that.  I do blame Hall for coming in from the sideline.

"I'm still hungry." --Brady Hoke

NH-IO's picture

Agreed. 44 should have been ejected as well.  Or nobody should have.

toad1204's picture

The minute punches are thrown is when expulsions will be handed out.  Refs hands are tied.
Dumb question: Why throw punches with helmets on?

Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...

This will be a future rivalry video highlight.

Who is this Dontrell Willis they refer to on the video?

causeicouldntgo43's picture

Well...he does have a pretty high leg kick too....

TilstheHun3's picture

I was going to post this, beat me to it (by about 3 hours or so) As soon as I heard that, I was like "What? Who?"... On another note, things got heated, it's a rivalry game, everyone plays up all the "hate" (for most of us it is genuine) including the media and then when guys get into it, they are criticized. I'm really hoping the B1G doesn't overreact and include additional suspensions. What Urban does, well, that's up to him, I tend not to question his judgment... Anyone, I hope Hall gets some love from Buckeye fans for 'sticking up' for his team!

What is this? A center for ants?!? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read if they can't even fit inside the building?

thowen79's picture

I don't know who he is, but apparently he has misplaced his helmet.

One Bad Buckeye's picture

Come on baby!!!! Starting to wear them down....

"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."

RedStorm45's picture

It looks planned by scum.  7 dudes surround a returner?? Ok...

mtgerken's picture

And the fact that he was horse collar tackled and then pushed down, he deserved to throw a punch!

Some players are remembered for one play in their career. Will Allen, interception against Michigan. Ryan Hamby, the drop. Lydell Ross, passing fake money at the nudie bar.

Stone Cold would be proud.

I'm willing to bet this will appear on the front page for next years game.

"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.

BenedictineBuck's picture

In Wilsons defense, with his helmet off and backing up, a wolverqueen launched himself at him and hit him in the helmetless head w his helmet. If you put yourself in that position, a fight or flight switch goes off and its very tough not to defend yourself there after you've basically been headbutted w no helmet on. I love Dontre and am positive the "punch" wont define him and there will be many positive things he will do to make up for this one gaff. On a final note.... never punch a guy wearing a helmet, its just not smart, broken hand, broken wrist/fingers could have easily happened. Go Bucks 24-OH

Because we couldn't go for three!!!

They surrounded hi_ trying to inti_idate Dontre, I'_ glad he stood up for hi_self and that the tea_ ca_e to his aid.  I would have done the sa_e thing.
No penalty for #52 tearing his hel_et off?  C'_on.
No penalties for ALL of the wolverines co_ing off the bench and joining in the brawl?  Really?

4thandinches's picture

It has to be premeditated. Obviously losing a backup LB isn't going to hurt you that much, especially compared with the other team losing two star players.

I wasn't born a Buckeye but I became one as fast as I could.

JakeBuckeye's picture

It sucks, but Dontre is only a freshman and has to learn not to react like that. 5 on 1 is complete bullshit though, and I feel bad that he was put in that position. Complete thuggery/ganging by Michigan.

Maceyko's picture

If you throw a punch during a game you will be ejected if it is seen.  Period.  The rules are clear on that fact.  We got the short end of that whole BS but to say that you are glad that someone threw a punch means that you don't mind them being ejected because it will happen.  You have to maintain your composure!  Why do you think everyone else was pushing and shoving versus throwing punches?  You can't get mentally beat like that!

thowen79's picture

I can't remember, did the officials review the entire play or just go on what they saw in the heat of the moment? In a situation like this they should go to the replay to find out EVERYONE who threw a punch, not just the few they happened to notice in the moment. I immediately saw #34 for _ichigan swing first and also #44 throw a few. They both should've been gone.
*Michael Thomas probably should've been ejected also.

Knarcisi's picture

All in all, they got it right. 44 should have definitely been tossed. And Thomas was lucky he didn't.

GoBucks10's picture

Really sucky to have the guys kicked out, but UM needs to be punished somehow for the taunting and gang-up on Dontre.  After the horsecollar tackle they all huddled around him, pushed him down, and shoved him as he got up.  When OSU back-up came in to pull Dontre out, things got out of hand.

Real shame.  I can only hope that Hall isn't penalized more for his oHio salute.

If Wilson gets suspended for the B10 Championship Game I will be shocked! He deserved to throw every punch he did. You don't messy with the smallest athlete on the field he is a scrappy one. Will always remember todays brawl. Really made me think back on Woody when I saw the punch and I loved it.

BuckeyeChris's picture

Wasn't a facemask call missed on the play itself? I remember thinking that when I watched the play. That (having his head nearly ripped off...) may have been the catalyst.
