Michigan's Fitz Toussaint Delivers the Gift of Bulletin Board Material to Michigan State

The last time Michigan beat Michigan State in East Lansing was 2007. So you'd think Wolverines might want to go light on the "Little Brother" talk this week ahead of their trip to Spartan Stadium.

Nope.

Here's running back Fitz Toussaint on how the rivalry has become personal to him:

"We labeled them as a little brother," Toussaint said. "And, you know, little brother always wants to prove themselves and try to beat up the big brother one day.

"I think they really take offense to that."

But wait. There's more:

"It's going to be better in their house," Toussaint said. "Once we go over there and take care of business, it will (feel better than last season's win)."

Against that defense, and the Derpness prone Gardner at QB, I foresee tough trails for scUM in East Lansing.

This is definitely one of the few non-OSU games that I have been most excited for in a while.  This has pretty huge implications for the whole conference and, unlike OSU and Michigan, the hate between these teams doesn't come with an ounce of respect

I agree , because no matter what, a team from Michigan is absolutely going to lose!
Winner winner!

According to this wonderful 2011 Wall Street Journal article, Michigan State-Michigan is one of the dirtiest rivalries in college football.  It is also -- by a substantial margin -- the most one-sided (Sparty penalties) filthiness on the entire list:
http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052970204479504576639093283303646
To a man, Wolverine players will tell you that MSU is the dirtiest team they play, every year, year after year.  Just as they all say that the rivalry with Ohio State is imbued with mutual respect.
The weird thing with MSU is that through the rest of most years, they can play as a reasonably disciplined team.  Their disgraceful record of personal fouls versus Michigan is something that doesn't much extend to the rest of their season, in most years.
There is something about Michigan that makes Sparty lose his mind.
I wouldn't have it any other way.

I just looked at that article and really UM isn't carrying it's weight. The UM-MSU per game penalties rank it 6th in the nation, but 80% of it comes from MSU. If UM would only step it up some then they could easily grab the top spot!

I hate the fact that I will watch this and thus fool the TV companies into thinking my part of the ratings was because I like Michigan games on TV... I do not, I want to see Sparty Defense make Kalis bleed all over the field.. assuming he even gets back on the field... whats that Kyle can't live up to the hype ... don't get a splinter in your arse!
Go lil brother go!  win out and be the strongest thing on our schedule when we see you in Indy! (Or wherever the Championship is held)

You do know TV ratings don't work like that, right?

Probably better for you to go ahead and let the whole Kyle Kalis thing go and just worry about scUM in general....

You would think that at some point the big brother would grow a pair and finally beat the little brother.  Don't see it happening this year.

Oh man, scUM's offensive line is gonna have a rough day with this one. They were getting torn apart by Penn State's d-line and I think we all saw last weekend how "good" Penn State's d-line is...

Fitz Tou-feetpercarry...of all the players on that team to be talking trash, it shouldn't be him. More times than not Fitz ends up closer to the opposing team's endzone than his own, that being IF Gardner doesn't fumble the snap or the handoff.

I'm sticking with my prediction...MSU wins big.  Sorry to the TTUN fans that frequent 11W but your General Ed major players need to keep their comments to themselves.  This didn't help matters with a weak defense and overrated offense.  42-21...if TTUN can score that much (42-31 was my original prediction...I modified it to this  ^^^).

Some people think we’re the hunted.I don’t feel that way at all. We’re the hunter.Everybody wants an angry football team.Everybody wants a team on edge and a hungry team.If you’re a hunter, that usually equates to being hungry.

I like MSU in this game as well but I think it will be low scoring. Maybe 17-7 or something like that.

ChazBuckeye's picture

I hope you're correct because it will legitimize both as B1G opponents.  Considering so many think tB1G sucks as far as media and others.
However, I don't see MSU's #1 rated defense giving up more than 300 total yards.  Which can't equal to that many points for TTUN (IMO).  Which is why I changed my prediction.  Not due to #28's ignorant/arrogant comments.  That won't help TTUN's chances either.  MSU's defense hasn't been truly tested but I feel they'll do just fine against this below.

Causing these types of looks from TTUN fans...priceless!

Uhhhh....how can Fitz be a "Walmart Wolverine" if he actually plays on the team?  I thought "Walmart Wolverine" referred to bandwagon fans who weren't even affiliated with the school.

That was directed to the ttun faithful that continue to bash Dumbtonio, The Undertaker etc and generally bash MSU in all things, Izzo included, as being inferior.  As far as fitz is concerned, his comment was ill timed and quite foolish in my opinion.

Buckabroad's picture

Typical. Big mouth, probably no action to back it up. TTUN may have a chance of winning this game, but if Toussaint plays like he did against Penn State, he will probably need 50 carries to net 1 yard.

I think Fitz consulted Mike Hart about "little brother."  It's nice to see that Mr 0-4 against the Bucks and Mr 1 yd per carry against some of the worst defenses imaginable have joined forces. I can't wait to see what Sparty does versus Missagain on Saturday. They also both seem to have a propensity for opening up their mouths and inserting their feet

Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.

Hello_Heisman's picture

Well, Hart was 4-0 against Little Brother so there is *that*.  I think if Fitz was going to consult with Hart about anything, it should have been how to read a hole and break some tackles.  Hart was pretty good at that part of football.

60% of the time it works.....every time

bigbadbuck's picture

Maybe he should have because there was no tackle breaking by Fitz today....As a matter of fact I think Sparty pretty much put Missagain in a choke hold and didn't bother to let go the whole game.

So stupid.  UM arrogance never ceases to amaze me.  If one of our guys went for 27 yards in his last outing and started spouting off about his next opponent I would hope our coaches would bench him for being such an idiot.
MSU and UM share a contempt for each other that makes the game fun to watch.  UM fans call MSU dirty but they seem to forget Lewan's eye gouge and some of the dirty things they've pulled out for this game as well.  It is a two way street fight.
That said, MSU does tend to play like they are in the prison yard.  If Devin Gardner finishes this game I will be shocked.  Guy runs way too upright and takes way too much contact to survive the head hunting MSU will be doing.
I'll be entertained and fully expect Sparty to whip UM like a rented mule.

We were awful at Penn State.  Not just Toussaint; the whole offense, from the OC on down to the ball-boys.
But Toussaint didn't get "27 yards in his last outing."  His last outing was versus IU, and he had 151 yards on 32 carries and 4 touchdowns.
