Glenn Robinson III and Mitch McGary are expected to return to Michigan.

CBS Sports is reporting that Glenn Robinson III and Mitch McGary are returning to Michigan for their sophomore season. The duo is holding a joint press conference at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon. You don't typically hold joint pressers if you're announcing departures.

Or that both are leaving? #wishfulthinking

Triv - it's not all bad for OSU.  Half of the top 4 players for your hated rival, including the POY point guard, are leaving the program.  Sure, McGary and GR III coming back means Michigan will probably be a Top 15-20 team next year, but they're unlikely to have a repeat run to the Final 4.
As a Michigan fan, I get the makings of a pretty good team next year that won't fall off a cliff, and as an OSU fan, you get the satisfaction of knowing there's no way Michigan wins the 2014 NC.
It's a compromise, baby!!! (said in Dickie V voice)

Definitely not complaining about Burke leaving! And yes both OSU and UM should field at worst top 20 teams next year. For UM, it all depends on how the freshman play, and for OSU it all depends on the development of the 2011 recruiting class (Scott, Thompson, Amir, Ross, Trey McDonald)

Oh well. Let's see how they do for a whole season without trey burke doing everything

Hello_Heisman's picture

I resent that implication.  There was at least a 12 minute period last season where Spike Albrecht did something without Burke.  The rest of the season?  Not so much....

Not so fast my friend!  Spike "Spark" Albrecht showcased a his inner-Novack a few times this year.  Obviously his big shots in the tourney we'll never forget, but don't forget Columbus when he came in and brought Michigan back to life with a quick 7 points of the bench.  Michigan probably loses that game by 15 without him.
Not to mention, he reached out directly to Kate Upton after the title game via Twitter.  Dude has balls.

Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Spike giveth, yes, but Spike also taketh away.

Don't get me wrong....I love what Spike did, but I'm not expecting a ton out of him next year.  Maybe it's because I can't get past the thought of a 19 year old hobbit being our starting PG.

I think there's definitely times when Spike can really make a difference. But I also think with his size and lack of ridiculous athleticism that some PGs have, he might get dominated from time to time. I'd like to see how he would match up with Craft, both guys are pretty uhhh (gulp) scrappy.

Triv's picture

I personally think Craft would lock him down. Spike doesn't have dominant ball handling skills, and I don't think he would find anywhere to go against Craft. Think Craft vs. Burke in the B1G Tourney 2 years back except worse

Craft will lock him down, no problem.  The real question is how good Walton, the new freshman PG coming in, will be.  He doesn't have to score like Burke did - I think there will be a good number of other scoring options he can leverage (Stauskas, McGary, Irvin, GRIII) - but he will have to be able to run the offense and keep his turnovers down.  That was probably the most under-appreciated aspect of Burke's game.  Even in the games where his shot wasn't falling, he usually had excellent assist-TO ratios and took care of the ball.
I have a hard time seeing a freshman PG play mistake free basketball the way that Burke did this past year.

I look forward to it.  Obviously it won't be an equal swap for Burke, but as I mentioned in the Hardaway thread, newcomer Derrick Walton and Albrecht (off the bench) should be just fine running the offense, at least serviceable.

Looks like the Michigan fans on this post are concerned about what we Buckeye fans think about McGary and Robinson staying or leaving. Trolling again, UM fans?

tennbuckeye19's picture

As expected, both will be back next year. Spike Albrecht on the other hand...

This, and Gary Harris returning, good for B1G.

Hello_Heisman's picture

With Appling, Payne and Harris, I think Sparty becomes the early favorite in the B1G next year.  I'm just glad to see that IU lost a ton of guys, mainly because Tom Crean is a major douche.

I'm glad we share this sentiment. Although, it's pretty much UM's fault for ruining Indiana's program, though, right? ;)

Hello_Heisman's picture

Yes.  We weren't satisfied enough with ruining our own program for 10 years, so we thought we'd get some extra credit and ruin IU's program as well.

I think Sparty should be a favorite for national champions. Kentucky will be good, no doubt, but there's no telling if they're a top-five team with so many freshmen. This year's team, you'll remember, was supposed to contend.

Hello_Heisman's picture

I think Sparty should definitely be on the short list for NC.  Even though I'm a Michigan fan, I have tons of respect for Izzo and he doesn't annoy me the way Dantonio does in football.  If MSU played Kentucky next year in the Final Four or NC, I'd root for MSU in a second.  I like Izzo's vision of college Bball and the way he runs his program much better than what Coach Cal is doing down in Lexington.

It amazing how many NBA players kids were on scUM last year.

They had the sons of
Tito Horford
Tim Hardaway
Glenn Robinson
Bill Laimbeer (McGary)
plus Steve Kerr's evil little nephew Spike
