Tied at 7-7 after an opening half that saw Ohio State and Penn State combine for 10 punts and a turnover on downs, the Buckeyes used an electric 21-3 run in the 3rd quarter to pull away and eventually record a 35-23 victory tonight in Happy Valley.
Ryan Damn Shazier got things started with a pick six of Matt McGloin on PSU's opening possession of the 2nd half and shortly after a Nittany Lion field goal, Braxton Miller capped back-to-back touchdown drives with one-yard runs – one of them the sickest one-yard run in CFB history – giving the Buckeyes a commanding 28-10 lead they would not relinquish.
The defense played well when it needed to behind a nice run-stopping night from Zach Boren, another spirited effort from Shazier and an outstanding night in coverage from Bradley Roby.
The offense was led by Braxton's 279 total yards and three touchdowns.
Nine and oh, y'all.

Great win! Sorry for being Debbie Downer in the predictions. Glad I was wrong.
Great to see the defense step it up and rattle McGroin with some blitzes.
We freaking OWN that stadium. Last three games, we've outscored them 96-47 in Sad Canyon. Take away that BS Tiller touchdown at the end and they're averaging 13 points a game AT HOME in their last three games against us. We OWN... Penn State.
There is nothing - I repeat NOTHING - better than a win over Michigan, but bludgeoning the pedophile protectors and Myth McGloin back into irrelevance will be one of my favorite memories from this year.
The North remembers.
Regression to the mean. I've been screaming it all week. He just isn't that good.
Horseshoe East. Happy Valley is our @$@#$ house.
O-H!

Their 5 wins were against nobody. They have no game-breaking players. Done and done.

Yes sir. That's the long and short of it. They were smoke and mirrors over the last 5 games and OSU is a really damned good football team.
Gold stars to Ryan Shazier, John Simon, and Brad Roby today. Shazier and Roby made the highlight reel plays but Simon really clogged up the PSU running game. More than Hank, or anyone else today. He was probably a step behind each tackle but responsible for a lot of stops today. If there were assists TO tackles (not assisted tackles), Simon might have had 20 today.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
This game was almost zen like. Never really felt fear and once I saw the bullets are playing again... Kinda exciting!
That 1yd run when brax pulled it and Hyde was tackled. This is why I watch every moment of these games. Insane in the membrane!
That fake fooled everyone in the bar that I watched the game at (including me, haha). When Hyde was tackled there was a a universal "Ooohhh....WOOOOOO!!" as Miller ran into the endzone.
This was a glorious win.
There were too many players to list that played a great game, but three or four players stuck out to me: Simon, Shazier, Roby and Big Hank. And of course Braxton. Wait. That's five. F$%K it. They all played great.
Damn. C'mon Hankins, stick around for your senior year, buddy! Don't you want a chance at a national championship ring?
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
I swore I read a quote over the summer where he said he wanted to win a National Championship. Implying that he was coming back. Of course if he does infact project out as a top 5 pick or something he'd be dumb to stay. Personally, I just don't see it though. We'll see I guess. I was under the impression that he basically implied he'd be back.
I distinctly remember this as well, and continue to maintain that Hank will return.

I said it all week, as did several users here. Matt McGloin is who he is. Gaudy stat line hides a down right awful game.
Braxton showed some real stick-to-itness today.
Michael Mauti isn't really that good.
OSU's defense might be..Good work out of Spence and Diesel today. John Simon played a really, REALLY good under the radar game.
9-0!
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Great win. A couple things:
1. On offense, we had too many man coverages that we did not exploit. I would have liked Braxton to throw it deep more.
2. I have to say that Rod Smith looked way better than Carlos today. He ran the ball with authority whereas Carlos looked a little timid.
But a win is a win! 9-0, baby! Go Bucks!
The South will NOT rise again!
yeah, but El Guapo did not fumble the ball. And neither did Roderick either, thankfully. ;)
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
Rod "Jones" looked solid today and almost broke several long ones. I think the staff is starting to trust him more, and he's a good surrogate for El Guapo on second-down running situations.

I like Rod Jones and Hyde on the field at the same time.
It never makes me happier to see depressed students of any other school on TV than Penn State students. Great win.
You and me, dude. That place sounded like a funeral home after Stony's TD. Flock you, PSU, and your little whiteout thingy.
There's no denying, that place is loud as F**K. But it also seems to go completely silent faster than anywhere else I've ever seen. Doesn't make sense at all.
The smugness of my grin after Stoney's TD while seeing the looks on their faces could only be described as sh*t-eating.
-Mix
It was reminiscent of their faces in 2009 after we intercepted them late. Something about this year was even better to me though. Maybe it was the fact that their fans got so arrogant this year. Not that they weren't arrogant in 2009, but at least they were for a reason after beating us the previous year. But for some reason it seemed like they were even more delusional this year.
Anyway, the sad part is that was probably the closest game they're going to have with Ohio State for 7-8 years... and it wasn't even a close game.
So we dominate Nebraska and Penn State, but struggle against Indiana and Purdue...That's a head-scratcher.
"Hell, Woody didn't recruit me; he recruited my mother!" -Jack Tatum
Ohio State is the epitome of playing to the level of their competition.
EDIT: Though I should say, I'm going to be pissed if Illinois gives us a game next weekend. That team is just... yuck.
Exactly...I have been saying the same thing all season...though they have been doing it for 15 yrs
I can't figure it out either. Especially seeing Purdue get steamrolled by Minnesota (!?!?!??) today. It's not being home or away, clearly. Oh well.......9-0 is 9-0.
I think Purdue used up all of the magic contained in Danny Hope's mustache when they tried to beat us.
Hope sold his soul to the Devil to be guaranteed bewitching good luck against OSU every year. Of course, it also dooms him to never sniff a B1G championship or Rose Bowl berth ever.

We've played down to some opponents, for sure, but
We are THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES WITH URBAN MEYER.
Everyone is going to play us like it's a bowl game.
Great teams can handle the pressure of their own success. This team is doing that, even though they're young and learning a new philosophy.
I love watching this team.

I have to admit I was nervous about this game. I am really impressed with how well our D played today! Imagine how good this team will be with a year of practice under their belts and some new players with more speed and ability.
Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!
There were over 100 recruits there for the game. Many of them have us high on their list, so you have to think this couldn't have hurt our chances with some of them since we have a shot at a bowl game starting next year...

Did not feel very good coming into this game, and after seeing the supposed "best team in the BIG", I feel a little stupid for doubting Urbz and the boys. The OSU war machine keeps chugging along...
great showing by our much maligned defense. offensive line also did a great job creating running lanes and protect Miller in the 2nd half. so proud of this team!
I'm going to miss moxie jokes.
Suck it PSU
Also, nothing but props for the defense. Gave up a fieldgoal and a garbage time touchdown, along with the one touchdown pass to the tight end. Great showing by them for the most part.
I'm not sure what I'm more excited about: the fact that we're 9-0 or the impending articles and comments on BSD.

There are a lot of reasons why I hope we go undefeated (outside of the obvious like the historical significance). One of those reasons is the opportunity for the Ohio State football program and its fans to give the college football world the biggest friggin troll face imaginable for the entire off-season.
Penn State fans may be drinking Yuengling in Happy Valley, but here in Columbus, it's MILLER TIME!! O-H-I-O! Go bucks!

BSD will be overflowing with whiny-babies about how they got screwe by the officials. Clearly they didn't watch their offensive line in their late TD drive! I haven't seen holding like that since Wisky 2 years ago!
"Have you earned your buckeye today?"
My god that drive. I was at a watch party at the Union and it seemed like everyone was yelling for holding after every play. Even though it was an Ohio State crowd obviously, I had a tough time disagreeing with most of them; I noticed Simon got grabbed from behind on the play before the touchdown pass. Ridiculous.
We were yelling holding after every play... and the Jim Tressel guy totally rigged that last raffle.
/Duff'd It
Yeah my cousin goes to psu and the first thing he said after the game was a complaint about that penalty on the punt that led to our td. (I laughed to myself) But I agree that call was sketchy but the bad calls went both ways in my opinion.
I not only love that we won, but that we did it fairly easily
Right. No OT needed here, bro.
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
Awesome win. Very happy with the defense, Braxton's 2nd half execution, Shazier in general, and for the most part, our back 7's performance.
On another note...
BlackShoeDiaries seems to be pretty decent regarding their loss as far as their 4th quarter thread and Post game thread goes... kind of like 11w's. It is nice to see that sort of reasonoble discussion regarding fan bases that have our own fringe crazies.

Fantastic game by our team today, especially since this was the first trip that Urban made there. Greet job not letting the crowd get to them. Not perfect, but improving. GO BUCKS.
Think we will hear about the "NASCAR" offense anymore this year? Who will be the media's new darling team?
Congrats to the boys on a huge win!

All right. Great win. I hate to get ahead of ourselves, but next year is our national championship run. We have to replace Simon and likely Big Hank. Possibly Roby.
Can we do it? Can we replace those players and make an NC run?
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
I think Spence can most defintely fill in well for Simon. I'll have to wait and see what happens with Hankins and Roby, though I selfishly hope they come back. I think with what we've got coming back on the offensive side of the ball, there's no reason to think they don't have a shot.
Also, take a look at next year's schedule. Not exactly murderer's row, even looking at it a year beforehand. Unless some teams from the Big Ten make a complete 180, who's really going to challenge Ohio State? Michigan will be replacing Robinson, the interior of their offensive line and 5 players on defense. Wisconsin and Penn State are at home, and we don't have to play Nebraska or Michigan State.
doesn't it make you glad that next year we don't have a playoff? no way in hell we can get in the top 4 with that schedule, unless we start in the top 5.
Actually it wouldn't matter if we went wire to wire at #1 with that sched if there were playoffs- being in the top four of the rankings is meaningless once playoffs start. The committee picks the top four teams based on their own criteria in their one meeting. Rankings will have absolutely zero meaning.
I guess I should add that we don't play Nebraska or Michigan State in the regular season. Doesn't necessarily mean we wouldn't play them.
Meh, I think MSU's run at or toward the top of the B1G is over for
Meh, I think MSU's run at or toward the top of the B1G is over for quite a while. They were doing well when Michigan was down and they could get top kids from their home state and kids from Ohio that normally Michigan would get. Now that Michigan is recruiting well again, MSU's days are numbered. I think it's back to B1G mediocrity for them.
You also left out Nate Williams, Sabino and Goebel. Not to mention out starting mlb, Mr. Zach Boren.
And Reid "I like to crumple them" Fragel and Jake Stoneburner on offense.
Braxton was clutch...our defense was just great. If our defense does this much for the next three games, we will be undefeated.
Hells yeah! Suck it, PSU.
I think next year is too soon. We still need to fill a few holes before we can take on teams like Alabama and win. We are definately on our way to the NC.
Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!
On BWI Penn State fans are crying about the officiating and how corrupt the B1G is and wanting to leave the B1G. God they're easy to hate.
If you can't beat 'em, go somewhere else.
I was totally waiting for the pick-six today. Thought it'd be Roby given recent history or T Howard given previous history, but ended up being Shazier. Glad the guy was rewarded for good play dropping back in coverage--once he refines his pass D, he's All-American for sure!
"There is a force that makes us all brothers, no one goes his way alone." --Woody Hayes
Lots of good comments here, so I'll just add Zach Boren to the list of defensive players who played well tonight. He's really helped to stabilize the interior and he's enabled the coaches to use more pass rushers on the DL. Borens are bad mothas.
Most satisfying win of the year for me. The game actually felt like an Ohio State team showed up for the first time. Great victory in a very hostile environment.
I couldn't help but wonder if that will be the last sellout PSU will have for the next 7-8 years?
So, Joshua Perry did not play on defense, did he? They were using Nathan Williams as a LB/standup DLman, I think, or playing nickel.
Boren is actually pretty good in nickel on long third downs. He doesn't cover in space especially well, but he eats up draw plays and screens.
Didn't see Josh once on defense.
/Duff'd It
My comment before the game was, "If we can keep from allowing a TD on the kickoff or opening play to PSU, I like our chances."
We accomplished both of those, and won. Yay!
Da Buckeyes!
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
This was the game that we HAD to end our annoying tendency of having bad first quarters, and we did. We may not have scored, but holding Penn State scoreless equates to a good first quarter.
Basically, Penn State's trend of great first quarters stopped, and their trend of terrible third quarters continued.
Some late night laughs sponsored by BSD:

I really hate those fuckers.
But they played a good game in a hostile environment.

[edit: I meant to type that Greg Mattison is the brains, but my comment above is kinda funny if read sarcastically].
Just glad we didn't suffer a loss to the Happy Valley Clown Show. Braxton Miller is a special, special guy.
Its pretty hard to make a 1 yard TD run look impressive, ....unless your name is Braxton Miller!
"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment."
Upon reviewing Braxton's Matrix 1 yard TD run, Fragel did get away with some holding. Oh well.
Just details.
urban would have went on 4th down anyway.
Well it wouldve been 3rd and goal from 11...
Yeah, and the holding call on the punt that gave us the ball back was BS too, but so was that late hit out of bounds call and the lack of holding calls on PSU's touchdown drive. The refs were extremely iffy both ways today. PSU fans just won't remember it like that, of course.
How much f%&king holding did Pur-mother-f%^king-due get away with last fricking week?!

After observing most of the B1G today and currently witnessing this Brasky/Pisshigan snoozer, it's evident our scrappy Buckeyes are by far and away the class of the conference. I shudder to think of the dominance that should ensue once Urbz gets nice and comfy.

RDS!
I just love how tough this team is. Couldn't score or really move that ball all that well, then Penn State scores a TD and here comes Braxton and the offense on a long drive to tie things up. Just really impressive. I know Hyde didn't have a great game, but I was really impressed with him. He was getting a lot of tough yards early in the game, 4 here, 6 there. Those early carries where he was slamming it at their D-Line, was a big reason Braxton had so much success in the 2nd half. It also allowed Rod Smith to have those nice runs.
Thumbs up for giving El Guapo some love, because he has been a consistent player, and deserves some love.
My only regret is that Kenny didn't get to see the field today, but I'm thinking he's going to play a little against the Illini.

Michigan getting a taste of what we got in Lincoln last year
Tonight can't get any better
I'm glad to see it, it means Ohio State can spoil Michigan's trip to the B1G title game. Hopefully, Nebraska wins out.
Predicted 35-20...was pretty darn close. I was really hoping for a 35-10 win and OSU's defense would pick McLoving off a few more times. However, the defense did what they've done all year and gave up 4th quarter points. OH WELL....we're 9-0 Baby! Can't wait for next Saturday to come. I'll be sitting at 29A with my flask and a smile:-) Go Bucks!

Thank goodness for Guiton! Bellomy is beyond horrible, somehow even worse than Bauserman
to be fair, bellomy is a freshman? Bauserman got like 5 years on Bellomy.
His 18/19 year body is much more nimble than Bauserman and his 45 year old frame
Looks like ND is for real.
I love this team. It's obviously very clearly flawed and nowhere near an "elite" title-contending team, (whatever that means these days). Urban's teams in the upcoming years will be much better, hopefully in the Alabama machine-like sort of dominating way. That's all well and good and will totally ROCK when it happens. But for now, I'm just glad this team has SO MUCH heart and SO MUCH FIGHT in it. We win in spite of our glaring flaws. These wins are sweeter than when you just mow down another opponent b/c you were vastly superior in every single facet of the game. There's something to be said about winning week-to-week, living on the edge and knowing our flaws may do us in at any moment, but somehow finding the way to break through (or hang on for dear life...) each week and come out a WINNER. This team, should it go 12-0, will have a special place in our hearts for sure. It might not be the 2002 team, but it's as nice as we can hope for in a bowl-banned year.
And honestly, if we were actually blowing ppl out by 50 each game, this would be so much more torturous b/c we'd be b*tching about how we're left out of the Nat'l title game, and how we should be #1, etc etc.
Speaking of unbeaten (title), there were 11 unbeatens going into this week and 5 of them lost today: Florida, Oregon State, Miss St, Rutgers, Ohio. That leaves: Bama, Oregon, Kansas St, Notre Dame, Louisville, and.... Ohio State.
I don't feel bad for Michigan (that's a given) but I feel terrible for Lattimore....unfortunately I believe his career is over.
Some thoughts:
Pick Six U lives up to it's name once again!
XBrax360 keeps breaking ankles and scoring TD's like a boss.
El Guapo picking up the tough yards.
Rod improving each week and doing great on kickoffs!
Stoney with a nice td tonight.
Roby Island held strong.
RYAN DAMN SHAZIER!
9-0 with a chance to go 10-0!
