In a game that was uglier than West Lafayette in [every month goes here], Ohio State's undefeated season continued with a come-from-behind win at home against Purdue in overtime.
There was so much that was awful about this game, most of all Braxton Miller's hospitalization following a head/neck injury, but those are things we would be complaining about in a Vent Thread, which has not made an appearance yet this season.
Kenny Guiton led the Buckeyes following Miller's injury, driving the offense to the game-tying TD and two-point conversion with just seconds left in regulation. Ohio State got the ball in OT, scored on an El Guapo goal line plunge, and the Silver Bullets ended the game on Purdue's first and only chance on offense.
When you win, nothing hurts. Get well, Braxton. Go Bucks!

Just win baby!
It's never pretty but F-it! 8-0.

Totally AGREE!!!!! Just enjoy the ride, it's not the best Buckeye team in my lifetime but it's my favorite. This is a lot of fun to watch.
Cannot agree. Defense is still too brutal to qualify as "fun to watch." Feeling really good for Guiton right now though.
I'm going to defend the defense a bit. The big touchdown plays were obviously terrible, and the endless number of 7 yard completions were frustrating, but in the end, it didn't even add up to 350 yards allowed.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Purdue fans have got to hate their offensive coordinator, you run the same play 6 times in a 8 play 80+ yard drive . . . then never call it again.
Defense stepped up when it mattered most though. Without them we COULDN'T have won in overtime
I would say this is the most exciting team to watch. Just when you get so depressed that you think about turning the game to a Big East game, we block a kick, Brax breaks a big one, or Christian Bryant wraps some one up. But this stress of how bad they look at times makes it not so much fun.
How big an underdog are we on the road next week?
3 point favorites, I think.
Dan Isaacs
Sometimes you just have to accept reality and take things for what they are..we aren't that great of a team but we find ways to win..which is all that matters pretty much. Now if we had to impress the BCS system we'd probably be fucked lol, good thing we don't.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
That's kind of my point, in a season where all this bunch has to play for is a W each week why not enjoy it? I have not seen anyone say this team is number 1 or could beat everyone else out there. They are 8-0 in an adjustment year where we shouldn't be 8-0. Not to mention last year we lost this exact game and others like it.
Yeah you got to treat it like the MLB playoffs..grind out each win whether it looks good or not.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Survive and advance. We learned today that our team is more than Brax, and they're clutch. Great game.
Is Big Hank hurt too? B/c if he is this is a pyrrhic a victory as I've ever seen.
Yep. A costly classic.
I didn't get the impression he was badly hurt, but I can't say for sure.
That was a very satisfying win--probably even more unlikely than Holy Buckeye or last year's Wisconsin game. The offense hadn't been in sync all day, and now we had to come back behind a backup QB with no crunch time experience? But Purdue learned a hard lesson about the dangers of trying to sit on a one-score lead.
The win doesn't eliminate all my concerns about what was a very strange offensive gameplan, and the number of injuries, to Miller and others, looks like the sort of thing that's going to dramatically impact our season going forward. But the time to worry about that is after I drink heavily.

w-what just happened?
This win was even uglier than last week, but it feels sooooo good.
End of the game last week they looked bad, but end of the game this week they looked like they had more heart than any team I can remember. Proud of Noah Spence beating his guy on the edge to rush that last pass too.
^^^
All things considering, the D played better than probably most expected. Take away the kickoff return TD, the D only gave up 15 (which most people would have been THRILLED about if you had told them that pre-game).
GET USED TO IT!
First things first, this team has got heart. Now, while our record is still "pretty", we're going to lose a game or two. Forget about the AP National Title or the Heisman; the only thing that matters at this point is giving guys like Perry experience for next season and beating Michigan.
couldn't agree more...
Holy Buckeye part deux?
I'll second that!!!

Kenny Guiton is my hero.
He will go down in history as the best OSU backup QB of all time. Haha. That was a horrible game to watch, but I'm so used to it by now that I don't even care this season.
If Denard Robinson isn't careful with spooning all that food into his mouth, he's going to end up lookin' like Whoopi Goldberg
Well played Ramz, well played !!!!! I was in the middle of a negative post until Guiton hit that long first down pass. At 49 years old, I should not rush to judgement.
SOMEBODY PINCH ME!!!!
let's hope brax is alright, head/neck injury sounds serious...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrrhic_victory
Yeah, I'm hoping it was just a stinger (must have been a really bad one) and they are just being extra cautious.
Hope Hankins and Philly Brown are alright too.
I'd love to believe it's just a stinger, but that seems VERY, VERY unlikely given the awkward way he was carried off the field.

Let's now worry about what we are going to lose or what we could lose. I believe this team is going to always find a way. I gave up on them today, damn near turned the game off with 2 1/2 minutes. I'm I ever glad I kept in on. This team is special, I'm not sure I've ever enjoyed a season as much as this one. I FUCKING LOVE THIS TEAM!!!!!!!!!
I did turn the game off, as I did during Holy Buckeye, but my friend called me and told me to turn the game back on before we scored the tying TD. Thank God!

Yeah, even in the first quarter I was thinking "I'm getting too old to watch this team." (I'm in my 20's)
Yeah, the 2002 pretty much broke that part of me. Now I don't get so nervous during a game. I get emotional, but not nervous.
I think I have high blood pressure partly because of the Buckeyes, and partly because of my ex-wife.
But I love the Buckeyes, so I'll cut them some slack.

Just like OSU couldn't be 7 and 0 without Braxton, the definitely could not be 8 and 0 without Kenny! I am really glad for him, but I sure hope Braxton is ok...it looked like Purdue was out to injure him the whole game.

Kenny G just inked his name as a Buckeye hero. What a moment! Did that kid bail us out or what?! Awesome! The number 13 has returned.
I was thinking the same thing about #13...i thought there once was another #13 that was a game changer....Kenny G be the game changer...and looky looky...we won!

Kenny played great and you have to be happy with the D's effort. Hopefully Braxton is okay...
No quit in these boys! Awesome comeback! Go Bucks!
P.S. Hoping Braxton's injury isn't as bad as it seems.
i watched this whole game from my house to a bar, to petsmart to get my dog back to home, was at petsmart and had to contain myself on the td, got to my car when the conversion was scored and watched the game on my phone till i got home in time to see el guapos td, thank god i didnt give up on that game in that time
WOW
That is all
Sorry for the Negative Nancy Act but I just can't celebrate this win (or ANY win) before knowing if our franchise Heisman QB is alright or not. Christ.
I'm with you there. I'm happy and really nervous at the same time to see how seriously he is actually injured.
I hope he's OK, obviously. But I'm not worried. We can still put up 30+ with G. He's a much better pocket guy. Fewer big plays, but much more consistancy in the passing game.
Dan Isaacs
Obviously I'm not thrilled, as I would be if Braxton were ok, but I have to think Braxton would be both injured and disappointed right now if they had lost.
So glad to see Kenny G. Get that win and reward him for all of his hard work.
Are you ready to soft rock Purdue???
I bet he plays next week. He played his heart out there today.
Because we couldn't go for three.
I'm dizzy. Spanned the complete spectrum of emotion today...from amused/cynical indifference, to furious anger, to overwhelming elation. This is like 2002, part deux.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go obsessive/compulsively remove every single grey hair that this game has produced. With some luck, I'll be done in time to catch the liveblog next week.
As I said before, Holy Buckeye Part Deux!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here's hoping Braxton is ok, but man, I feel really good for Kenny.

Just watch the replay of the injury and the aftermath. Thinking it is not a neck injury - You dont have someone walk AT ALL with a neck injury.
I wonder if it was his ribs?
I don't want to speculate but I was thinking the same thing.
Fan of bacon since 1981
He seemed to be wiping away tears or nosebleed blood on the field and then looked to be having trouble breathing on the sideline. Not sure what that means, but ribs makes sense.
I was thinking that too actually
Kenny G. is an O.G.
OSU overcame a lot today. A fired up Purdue team, a consistently uninspired defense and a rather self-absorbed officiating crew. I'm proud they found a way to win - again. Hope BM will be okay, but we better get used to seeing him on the sidelines until further notice. Looking forward to Coach Meyer's presser.
Yes, the D was frustrating at times. We looked like a pinball machine at times, and Klein is just awful. That being said, our D gave up 15.
Horribly officiated game. The first fumble by Braxton, in the first qtr. I think, HE WAS LAYING ON THE BALL when the defender stripped it away! NO F#@^ING REVIEW?! WTF?
Oh well. We won. Purdue and the officials lost, IMO.
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
This. As the game was progressing, I was thinking that this is going to be 2007 Illinois all over again. A game that began with a TERRIBLE call (the supposed Braxton fumble), and nothing else going our way.
It seemed to me like it was maybe broken ribs, possibly a punctured lung even. They were able to lift his arm over his shoulder when they carried him off...that probably would have been pretty tough if it was a broken shoulder.
Nervous for him. Very, very unfortunate. Plus, the play itself was pretty dirty and could have been flagged. I don't know why you'd have to perform the act of grabbing the collar...grabbing the jersey that high will get you the same effect, and the penalty is supposed to protect against that. The same defender grabbed high on Hyde's jersey later in the game, no flag.
Thought the same thing when he was still panting on the sideline: His lung.
"Hell, Woody didn't recruit me; he recruited my mother!" -Jack Tatum
I agree that getting tackled like that is the same as a horsecollar tackle, however I thinked Miller suffered a head injury, he looked out of it.
I said back in April Kenny G would start at any MAC school and some B1G(not named Ohio State)schools. Just like I said El Guapo was underappreciated.
Kenny G is no Joe Bauserman, but he's no Braxton either. I hope he's not too bad, but I have a feeling BM might be out for a few games. We need Braxton. But Kenny G is a good QB that deserves playing time, and he finally got a chance to prove himself.
CHEERS FOR KENNY G!
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
Any news on when we'll find out what Miller's injury is? Based on the symptoms they said on TV is sounded like it could be anything ranging from a concussion to a punctured lung, hard to tell
Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong for 59 minutes and 12 seconds.
And we still won. It isn't over until the clock strikes zero. Shame on me for giving up...
Great finish,Kenny! I hope Brax is ok.
45 years of watching the Bucks, have seen some amazing things, nothing like this.
after the game in the Euphoric mood I am still in,this is another upvote for everyone thread for me.
Also- you're welcome./
~Because we couldn't go for three~
How do you upvote posters ??
You just do it ;-)
My first thought on Brax was a snapped collar bone. I've broken mine and any movement at all is excruciating. Also can be hard to breathe. The way he was holding his upper body was familiar, too.
They took him off with his arms up over the shoulders of assistants. That doesn't look like a shoulder. They never took off his helmet, which seems like a concussion. But they used a backboard to put him in the ambulance. Strange circumstances.
Wow, what a crazy game! South stands were half empty for the comeback, but it was louder than it's been all year.
Agreed. I thought ribs/spine/disc.
"Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read." - Groucho Marx
Total guess, but I went with concussion and a cracked vertebrae. Like someone said above, if it were his collarbone I don't think he could have handled people helping him off by putting their hands under his arms.
I was on the edge of my seat. Way to go urban!!!
One thing is for sure: we're going to find out how forthcoming UFM is when it comes to injuries to his star players (no, Jordan Hall is not a star player). Will he go the JT route a la Beanie in 2008 ("Braxton has a chest cartilage injury" or something inane like that), or tell it like it is?
Great game. Never thought that comeback would happen after the INT. 8-0!

OK: I don't think Fick is gonna be here next year (he'll take a HC job and I wish him the best). Nor do I think Pellini will keep his job at Nebraska. So Pellini the defensive coord for the Bucks in 2013?
Discuss....
"Hell, Woody didn't recruit me; he recruited my mother!" -Jack Tatum
Doubt it, especially if Nebraska wins the Legends. Even if they don't, I don't see him leaving.
What makes you think RageBO will do a better job than Fick has? I'm all for re-evaluating Fick's job performance at the end of the season (current prognosis as of week 8: Not looking good) but Pelini's defenses have been underwhelming ever since he lost Ndamukong Suh (aka a once in a decade talent)...
Which Kenny G has the better hairdo?
"No time for love, Doctah Jones!"
Great question. LOL. Amid the ups and downs, the heartbreak of losing our starting franchise QB for God knows how long, and then winning with the BACKUP in OT, I never frigging thought,
"Which Kenny G has the better hairdo?"!
***laughing***
I needed that. BTW, the answer is easy.
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
On a down note, I can't say I'm surprised #5 got injured (assuming he'll miss time). He's taken some bad hits this season. The law of averages caught up.
Hope he's ok.
Braxton is definitely a beast at running. however, although he runs like a RB he is not built like a RB. Hopefully he is ok and help us kick meshitagain's butt!
Disagree, he is built similarly to a RB, especially after this past offseason. Not to mention he has missed less time than Hall and Hyde.
I gave up after the pick. Turned off the tv and hit the shower, stewed in my bitterness and mulling over the depressing 11W headlines to come, not to mention the ridicule from the rest of the nation. Checked my phone for the final score and saw the game was TIED! Couldn't believe it! Hit to see the OT but missed the comeback!
In 2003 my father turned off the TV at the end of OT #1 in the NC game after the dropped pass, but before the late flag. Woke up the next morning to find out that OSU won the game. Always always always stick it out to the end.
Yankees fan here. Game 7 of the ALCS in 2003, turned it off after the bottom of the 11th. Missed the Aaron Boone walk-off.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Sorry about your old over paid team that can't hit..out wait, no I'm not.

This game and this game only, I'd like to hear nothing but accolades for the players. No griping against the coaches.
There's plenty of that for after the season. And at this point, I see plenty of coaching weakness to go all around not just Fick/Vrabes/Whiters.
I believed and I believe in Kenny. Praying for Brax.
Kenny G definitely showed up today and carried the team to victory when we needed the most. On a slightly more negative note, Kenny's heroics made Fickel look more stupid for his decision last year to allow bauserbomb to bombard the Nebraska fans with is perfectly thrown passes into the stands.
Yah or even Pope Urban for not giving him any playing time this year when we were up late in many of our games.
I've been saying that since Urban was hired.
Kenny pass da ball. Good.

Thoughts and prayers are with Braxton. Go Kenny, go!
One thing is for sure: a gray box is coming...
This team has now showed it all to us this year.. and we're only half way through!
I like that they are being commended for their heart as that is one of the biggest things Urbz brought. Last year in Nebraska in similar circumstances it was a very different result.
Wow. Just wow.
Kenny should have both sides of his helmet completely filled with buckeyes for that win
Kenny G's got MOXIE!
The wait for any sort of prognosis on Miller is absolutely excruciating.
After thinking about the way he fell, the way they treated hm on the field and then on the sideline, I'm betting on a collapsed lung, maybe with rib injury. Not a shoulder, not a spine. Possibly concussion too, but probably not.
that was a horsecollar tackle should have been a penalty look like braxton got knocked out by the turf probably not gonna be back next week my opinion
also ggod to see this team not giving up unlike the bauserbomb last year
Per Eddie George's "sources in Ohio State" apparently Brax has a concussion #Buckeyes
Retweeted by The_BBC
is this a really really good bad news?? I was worried he might have had a spinal injury
Latest from Brandon Castel is a head AND chest injury. CAT Scan was negative; awaiting MRI.
Concussion and broken ribs?
Head and chest? A couple extra strength Tylenols and some Vick's VapoRub and he should be at practice tomorrow.
I was so impressed with Kenny G. Even after the pick, the kid never gave up and just kept making plays. Coach G indeed, he proved himself a man and a leader out there on the field. I apologize for all my angry rants previously against the officials and defense, I stopped believeing for a second.
"There is a force that makes us all brothers, no one goes his way alone." --Woody Hayes
Question to any nurses or doctors that may by chance follow 11W:
How bad is a collapsed lung? How long does it take one to recover from such an injury?
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
Sorry, I'm not one of either. Romo played through broken ribs and punctured/collapsed lung last year.
The problem wouldn't be the lung- it would be whatever collapsed it. In this case, if Brax does have a collapsed lung it would likely mean he had a rib fracture badly enough to puncture the lung. A rib injury that severe is going to take a long time to heal enough to play football. Could take the rest the season.
ihavent definitively seen that is what he has though. Did I miss something?
Punctured lung hasn't been confirmed. Brandon Castel has just tweeted that it's head and chest. That's all we know.
People are just rampantly speculating. I don't think you missed anything.
I'm speculating based on how they treated him on the field and on the sideline. If it was a shoulder or spine, they would not have walked him off with his arms over the assistants. He seemed to be panting hard on the sideline and moving sluggishly. Collapsed lung would do that. Lung can collapse with or without rib injury. I kind of doubt they's would raise his arms over the assistnats' shoulders if he had broken ribs, but unsure about that.
If I were to speculate, I'd say severe concussion and broken collarbone.
i prefer to just keep hoping he's okay.
If I may...Oh shit.
I don't have any inside info, but was just looking at Brax on TV. He looked like he was having a real hard time breathing. I don't know what to wish for here except a quick recovery, whatever it is!
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
A pneumothorax requires decompression. Depending on how bad it is, he'll need either needle or tube drainage. If he's got fluid or bleeding in there, could be anywhere from several days to weeks. What's worse is that it's probably due to a broken rib--that will take a while to heal and will be extremely painful.
"There is a force that makes us all brothers, no one goes his way alone." --Woody Hayes
It would SUCK to lose Braxton for what could be weeks due to a collapsed lung. However, worst case scenario, we've beaten Michigan before with a hell of a lot less talent at QB (Boeckman) than Kenny G.
to be fair, boeckman throws the ball better than any of our past qbs since troy smith
Beckmann was an accurate passer with a good arm. What did him in was that with any pressure whatsoever he panicked and made bad throws. When given time he was an excellent passer.
Oh Boeckman. Big guy, big arm, total panic anytime a less than perfect pocket was presented him. Which was often during the Bollrus OL days. I just remember every single time he'd get harassed he would get flushed and super red in the face and his eyes would begin to squint. Anytime the camera panned to him and he looked like that, I knew. INT coming right upppp.
No doubt, but I'll take the intangibles of Kenny G and his athleticism (and the fact that the whole team is behind him, unlike Boeckman in '08) over Boeckman's spiral.
Me too!
yeah, but Boeckman was no Bauserman!
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
8 weeks for a collapsed lung, 4-8 for broken ribs. This what the Internet told me when I googled it earlier. :)
Dan Isaacs
If that is the case (it sounds like we can say that he'll be out for at least 2-3 weeks), do we shut him down keeping in mind that 1) He is the franchise, and 2) 2013 is the season that's circled on all everyone's calendar.
OSU will be the only D 1 team in the US to be 8 - 0 since Ohio U has a bye week.
And we'll probably drop in the rankings, too.
I don't know. This story (Braxton injured and Guiton engineering unlikely comeback in final seconds) is getting a lot of play on TV this evening. They are viewed as "the team who weren't supposed to win but found a way to get it done" it appears. I bet we move up one spot.
Shit, good news!!! Braxton passed all concussion tests. Had his head, neck, and shoulders examined at OSU Med. Being released with no serious injuries.
I'm not sure how that's possible, but I'll take it!!!!!
Straight from Brandon Castel. I still wouldn't mind Kenny G taking the bulk of the snaps against Illinois.

Great news about Brax if true.
Thanks for the updates on Brax - The Ozone site confirms this.
After last season, I'm not even going to worry about the injuries, the defense, the kickoff coverage, etc. I'm just going to enjoy these victories and what this season has become.
How great does it feel to be a Buckeye fan right now?!?
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
Well said. I'll be the first to admit that I could do a better job adopting this mentality (although it's pretty damn hard when I watch our back 7).
Hooked up with the Toronto OSU Alumni Club to watch the game up here in the Great White North and we made all kinds of noise for just 10 of us! By the end of the game, we had 10 or so of the old school regulars into the game! It was ugly, it was painful to watch at times, but f@#$ing eh, in the end, they grabbed their asses and pulled it out! We are no where near championship caliber yet, but we don't have to be right now - but wins like this build character and pull the team together, not to mention give the fans high blood pressure!

Anybody else think that if a ref can award points to the defense for the offense holding (or in our case today, blocking in the back) that they should also award the offense a touchdown when the defense commits a foul in the end zone? Just seems logical to me. Let me also say, I don't like the rule either way.
I was at work during this game and man, I just wanted to hit the bottle.
I hope Braxton is okay!!! The take down sounded really bad according to the live posts on the ESPN Gamecast. It was at that time I was half sick.
Anyone know how serious Corey "don't call me Philly" Brown's injury is?
At around 3:15 I was nearly defeated and then about ten minutes later I wanted to chest bump my co-workers!
This team has no quit in them! Kenny G stepped up big time off the bench. After that interception I think many people started to lose hope.
Kenny shook it off and became a Buckeye hero on that last drive of regulation. He showed incredible poise and got the job done to get the game to overtime.
In OT, he marched the team right into the end zone.
The D came up huge in the next series and sealed the victory.
This team is not perfect on either side of the ball, BUT THEY DO NOT QUIT!
GO BUCKS!
This team has something...just look at the difference from last year when Braxton got hurt in Lincoln. The team deflated on defense and offense (and I'm sure a lot had to do with that #14 guy in the pic way above). This team rallied around Kenny G and he lead the way. Great win and I hope the staff don't rush Braxton back. I can see why Urban said he trusts Kenny if Braxton went down after spring and fall practices. I'd say he proved that today...put them both in against PSU to shake things up a bit. Not to mention...PSU just walked into Kinnick Stadium and showed Iowa who's boss today. They could be tougher than many expected after that lose to Ohio U after week 1.

"I love football. I think it is most wonderful game in world and I despise to lose."

Ugh...I know. Its disgusting that PSU fans get to actually enjoy their team this year. I was all about the OSU by 10023948204 earlier this season but PSU has a lot more heart than I'm ready to admit. I think OSU will take them in the long run because this is a pretty talented bunch but PSU, especially in Creepy Valley, is going to make a game of it.
