Ohio State’s senior captains were selected by the team Sunday night and the list includes five seniors. John Simon, Zach Boren, Etienne Sabino, Garrett Goebel and Jordan Hall were each selected by their peers to lead the Scarlet and Gray.
John Simon: Two-time captain.“Announcing who are team captains is one of the great honors I get to do as head coach,” head coach Urban Meyer said. “We had a number of guys get votes. This is a really good group of seniors who I am very proud to have leading this team.”
The quintet has a combined 185 games of experience between them, including 74 starts. Simon becomes just the seventh two-time captain in the program’s storied history and first since James Laurinaitis in 2007 and 2008.
“Being named captain means a lot,” Simon said. “I appreciate the votes of the players. This is one of the biggest honors a player can receive and I’ll be proud to lead this team along with four other great guys. We’ll have a really good season if we all lead well.”

How ridiculous was it that we didn't have captains last year?
So, once again, I'm confused: If there were no captains last year, how is Simon a two-timer? Was he a captain his sophmore year?

OSU is classifying Simon as a two-time captain since he served in the role for one or more games last season. From their release:

They had game captains that rotated, but they also named captains at the end of the year. I think the end of the year is what they're referring to. Took a while to find a link:

In 2002 we had Mike Doss and Donnie Nickey defensive captains but rotated offensive captains.
Surprised re: Hall selection, but it's good to see that he has finally come around. Wouldn't have thought back in 2008 that of the two Jeannette players in the class, Hall would eventually be a team captain, and Pryor would not.

This group of seniors has weathered adversity like no other in recent history. Great group of players. Can't wait for Hall to be back up to speed.
Can't disagree with this group, but was hoping Nathan Williams would be named a captain. I don think that 5 captains is a bit much, though. What ever happened to 3 captains?

Also, interesting that Hall was named a captain by the team even after being suspended last year for some games. I think it speaks volumes that the team isn't resentful or bitter about last year's troubles and this year's bowl ban.

I've always been an advocate of throwing your 3 meanest looking guys out on the field for the coin toss, seniority not considered. Gimme Simon, Chris Carter, and Andrew Norwell.
Rememeber that a true captain is somebody who will lead by example AND take 5 or ten guys with him who are on the fence about how comitted they are to bettering themselves and the program and getting the best out of them too! Seniority here is important and for this, there is no limit to how many 'captains' you have on your team. It creates a snowball effect that will only make the Buckeyes stronger and stronger.
