Buckeyes Earn Two Seed in East Region
Ohio State is headed to the East region as the two seed for the 2012 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Syracuse, the Big East regular season champion, was named the region's top seed.
The Buckeyes will take on #15 Loyola (MD) Thursday in Pittsburgh. Should they win, they'll advance to face the winner of #7 Gonzaga and #10 West Virginia on Saturday.
On the other side of Ohio State's half regional is #3 Florida State (the ACC Tournament champion) playing #14 St. Bonaventure and #6 Cincinnati facing #11 Texas. Both of those games will be played Friday in Nashville, with the winners tangling Sunday.
The Big Ten landed six teams, three of them four seeds, but sadly one of those was not Northwestern.
Michigan State earned the top seed -- the fourth of Tom Izzo's career -- in the West region and will play opening round games in Columbus.
Fourth-seeded Michigan will play #13 Ohio -- yes, Brady Hoke and John Beilein are incredibly confused right now -- on Friday in Nashville. Wisconsin will take on #13 Montana in the East Region and Indiana will face #13 New Mexico State in the South Region (with top overall seed Kentucky). Purdue was awarded a 10 seed in the Midwest Region and will play #7 Saint Mary's.

Michigan can now correctly say they are playing Ohio!
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Those green St. Patrick's Day Ohio State tshirts should come in handy for any Buckeyes in the Nashville area. Please let me see some of those in the stands on Friday.

Can Ohio PLEASE spend the week refering to scUM as Michigan State??!?!
I'm sorry for not being sorry.
Wouldn't that be a compliment though? Maybe they could call them Central Michigan or something?
Eastern Michigan. ;)
Fair enough
I'm sorry for not being sorry.
Southern Michigan...we could outsmart them and refer to them as a school that doesn't actually exist, at least in D-1 anyway.
Class of 2010.
Bobcat players looked pumped to get Michigan. Hope they take scUM down.

I know its early, but when do we find out gametimes? I need to find out and schedule accordingly ASAP!

I'm pretty sure we will know in a few hours.
I don't mind this draw. The main thing I was concerned about was avoiding UNC and Kentucky, and we've done that.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Excellent last all my finals are monday and tuesday going back home to pittsburgh wednesday. Well done selection committee
I don't like the draw. WVU and FSU are the kind of big, physical defensive teams that give us fits. I think we can beat Syracuse, but I don't think we'll make it deep enough into the field to get our shot.
Just got to have some faith my friend!

Weird, I thought we got one of the easier brackets.

Draw is good. FSU and WVU are big but don't have the overall talent. It shouldn't, and I mean shouldn't, be much of a challenge till Syracuse. I disagree, Syracuse is a tough challenge. Hopefully they will get beat before they get to the elite eight.
Toughest bracket again....thought Gene had some influence.
Huh? We got a great draw this year. Arguably the worst three seed, and not the overall number one seed.

What? Fl St beat NC twice, beat Duke, right? 'Cuse, whose conference brought 9 teams to the dance and IMO is the best team. Then the buzzcuts. Best 1-4 seats in any bracket IMO. Which 1-4 is better?
FSU just barely beat a Henson-less UNC team (who has gotten better as the season went on, IMO) and a Duke team that we crushed (I know that was early, but this Duke team doesn't scare me). If we play how we're able to (I know that's a big if), I like this draw. Kentucky/Duke/Baylor/Indiana (IU doesn't scare me, though) and UNC/Kansas/Georgetown (meh)/Michigan are both better. Cincy doesn't scare me, either.
Maybe I'm paranoid or something. I really want this team to do well. Like win it all well. Don't we have WV too? Huggins, ftw. I saw glimpses of greatness during the last few games and would love to see them playing hard because of the loss etc....
I love the bracket --- I think Syracuse is the weakest of the #1 seeds. We're opposite the only team that "scares" me, in Kentucky...and we play close to home in Pittsburgh

Yup! Now we just have to find out game times.

The only thing I would've liked to have seen is that we got the extra day rest because we were the last team to play in the conf. tourney -- just would like to see us play Friday instead of Thursday...but hopefully it's the late Thursday game...prob. not a big deal, overall, though

Nice short drive to the game.
So, when do the bracket challenges start?
I'm looking forward to KSU upsetting 'Cuse.
Biggest Ohio U fan this week. Let's go bobcats.
In terms of the buckeyes, West Virginia at 10 scares me second round. Florida St./Cincy don't sound like too much fun either if the bucks happen to make it that far...
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
We lose to FSU in the Sweet 16; i've seen this show before.
"Don't put syrup on shit, and tell me it's pancakes"
No matter how sh*tty the tour is, it's always tough to leave.
That's my thought, too. Won't be surprised if we get past them, but my initial reaction is much of the same.
I, for one, welcome our new coaching overlords.
We just should have won it last year. That was the year that the stars aligned, and we just let it slip past. Just don't have the perimeter play to do this, and if we did, we'd have a B1G Tourney title. Out to either WVU or FSU. This year's OSU team is just missing something that keeps them "good" instead of "great".
The only stat you WON'T see on this expert ESPN coverage: how well they each did on their brackets last year.
FSU just reminds me so much of Kentucky last year, not personnel wise just momentum wise. Gotta guard the perimeter well or Dulkys will kill us; that'll be the difference in the game if we play them. I could easily see Cincy beat FSU though. But in the end I think it'll be a FSU vs OSU matchup in the sweet 16
Wow, the way the team played this weekend I thought there would be more positive thoughts toward this tournament. Beat up Purdue, destroyed Michigan and almost won against MSU today. Quite honestly, the way they Buckeyes have played the last 4 games I think they can win it all. I'm not scared of FSU at all. I don't think any of the brackets are significantly difficult really.
Agreed...find me a team outside of MSU (and probably Kentucky) that can stop our 4/5 tandem of Sully and D.T. Plus, these teams aren't prepared for Craft. And Valentine, Kitts, and Hightower won't be doing our games I don't think. Lots of positives. Obviously, we don't have great guard play/3 point shooting, and a lot of teams that is what wins games in the 2nd round.
Positive thoughts? From Ohio State fans? Surely you jest.
Despite the loss, I saw exactly what I wanted from the team today. They played tough, we're in it the entire way, no one was ice cold, and most importantly, no one got hurt. I don't think they would have gotten a #1 seed with a win, so the loss doesnt matter all that much. I don't think it killed any of the positive momentum the Bucks have had, starting with the win against NW. They've been on a great run, playing exceptionally well, and should have a lot of confidence going into the tourney.
I admittedly haven't followed WVU much this year and any Huggins led team concerns me, but I wouldn't sleep on Gonzaga. If they make it past WVU, they have the type of 3 PT shooting team that can hurt us. I just don't understand why it seems that everyone can shoot the 3 at will against us. Meanwhile, we're lucky to get 3 or 4 a game. Very frustrating.
Reasonably favorable draw. Sweet 16 date with FSU. Teams coming into the tourney hot are always dangerous though. The outcome is a coin toss, but I don't feel our team this year has enough swagger and confidence to survive. We lose to FSU :/
"No time for love, Doctah Jones!"
I don't even see FSU making it to the sweet 16. Big deal they beat Duke and Carolina who was missing a key player. Meanwhile Ohio State blew 2 teams who are pretty good out of the water and lost a tough one to Michigan State who may just make the final four. This weekend the Buckeyes looked as good as anyone else in the country in my opinion.
FSU is the real deal. They curbstomped UNC when they HAD Henson playing for them, they beat them by 33 then. I think we can beat FSU, but it won't be a breeze.
1 game t hough, they also have some bad losses like Harvard, UConn, Princeton, and Boston College.
and Miami Florida
If we can get Sully to kick the ball out to a shooter like he did early in the season. He forced things a little too much late in the game yesterday. He played a great game but he wanted to do too much, which is a good mindset. Just needs to control it a little better.
