Williams Makes 23
It didn't take long after his Ohio State unofficial visit for Camren Williams to make up his mind on where he would be going to school. In fact, it only took a few hours for him to make it official that he would become an Ohio State Buckeye, letting the world know via Twitter of his decision.
If that's not enough, on Facebook, Williams said:
After talking it over with my family. I have decided that I will attend THE Ohio State University. It's the best fit for me academically, athletically, and socially. I'm a Buckeye! Go Bucks
The 6-2/200 linebacker from Catholic Memorial in West Roxbury, Massachusetts took an official visit back in December to Ohio State and loved what he saw. There was a feeling then that the Buckeyes could really make a play for the 4-star prospect, especially with Penn State, the school he was committed to, without a head coach until over a week into January. Williams wanted to make the return trip with his mom to Columbus, doing so this weekend, obviously a visit that validated what he felt after his first experience in Columbus.
Williams becomes the 23rd member of this class and the 4th linebacker, joining Josh Perry, Luke Roberts, and David Perkins. There is a chance of a fifth linebacker joining the mix, as Durham (NC) Hillside's Jamal Marcus is visiting Columbus this weekend.
There is also the chance that the 24th member of the class may not be too far off from announcing as well. Williams' best friend, teammate, and godson of his father Brent, Armani Reeves, joined Williams on their trip to Columbus for an official visit. Reeves is a 4-star corner back, now a position of need for Ohio State, and is considering OSU, Michigan, and Penn State, where he is still currently a soft verbal.
We will try to catch up with Camren Williams to get the word from the horse's mouth on what made him make the switch, as well as see what he will do to try and flip his good friend Armani Reeves. The Urban Train keeps rolling so stay tuned to 11W for the latest news.

Well J. Berry is pretty widely considered gone I think. Adam Griffin could become a walk-on and free up a scholly. There may be some of the 23 that don't actually sign or make it academically (Southward and others perhaps).

Gotta think this is exactly what the staff has told him.
If the staff keep taking verbals I expect they know how to fit these guys in. I'd be very surprised if they were just taking a 'hope things work out' approach.
It seems they would still take Marcus, Dodson & Cox. It will be interesting to see where the room comes from. Hell, I'm already counting Reeves as in. I have confidence in Urbz as a recruiter and Alex as a reporter.

This was his first time in Columbus....Williams was there back in December...he just got back today, has a bball game tonight...probably wants to talk to his family before making any announcement
Alex, I guess I misunderstood. I thought his family was on the trip along with the Williams'. Time will tell I guess. I believe Urbs will get the guy who's the best fit.
The days of the 3 star kids are long gone. I think this class is shaping up to be the best since 08' maybe better.
Last years class was pretty damn good I have to say. I think people are writing a lot of those guys off already since this class has began to erupt. Steve Miller, Kenny Hayes, etc were highly touted themselves.

I agree this class is looking good - I also remember a 3 star named James Lauranitis so stars aren't everything...That said - these interviews with these recruits have me believing they are pretty special and the future looks bright (knocking on wood) so far!

Part of me feels sympathy for them. That would be us if Meyer didn't come along, but ultimately Penn State took way too long to get a replacement and didn't get the name they needed.

Man, this has got to be the best recruiting week we've ever had. Reeves + one more tackle, and I'd be happy.
What I'm enjoying about this current run is all the people we're getting from nontraditional sources for the Buckeyes: Massachusetts, Colorado, and South Bend. It looks like we're going to be even more of a "national" program under Urban than we were under Tressel.

Yes, also Troy Smith, Chekwa, Sanzenbacher, Robiskie, Hartline, Gamble, Laurinaitis, Malcolm Jenkins and Santonio Holmes. Stars mean something, for sure, but I'd trust the (current and past) staff even more.
I agree. A 3* doesn't mean a player sucks. Sometimes, as in a case like AJ Hawk or Dane Sanzenbacher, they are out to prove the experts wrong. The experts cannot measure the size of a kid's heart with a tape measure or stopwatch. But if the star rating meant nothing, then the Akron Zips would have a real shot at playing for an NC this fall.

Perkins is a FREAK athlete, who will be very good as a pass-rusher, just needs to improve his coverage skills and playing more in control
Marcus played DE in high school and will need to make the adjustment
Williams is the total package...tackling, getting to the ball, ability to rush the QB, drop in coverage...absolute game ready player who has the NFL pedigree to go with it
Well with that thought, would it make more sense for OSU to play Camren williams at middle and take over the role of next great OSU MLB. Then Shazier could move to outside where his talents can roam free. right?

I think Williams could play MLB (after Sabino is done), Shazier at WLB, and Perkins at SLB down the road
Josh Perry will be a tough kid to keep off the field too but may end up playing Viper (hybrid LB first/DE) or LEO (hybrid DE first/LB)
gotcha. It just seemed like Shazier was more of the MLB because he was on the play more than Sabino. everytime there was a tackle Shazier was right there. but I guess that is because I look at Shazier and Sabino and don't see a true MLB in either of them.
So Williams taking over that role to me looks very promising. and I think Meyer will have most players on a clean slate and it will be open tryouts. Perkins and Williams will get a look at starting!
I also believe Williams and Shazier would likely need to gain some more weight to play MLB, right? Grant and Sabino have the body for it right now.
I thought Grant was supposed to be an All-Everything MLB. Is he not at the calibur of these recruits we're bringing in? Are you giving up on him already after he struggled to get on the field this year?
Grant will be a SAM or MIKE....can't give up on him yet....just meant when these guys play together eventually that's how they'd line up...actually think Grant is going to be excellent in Cbus

If you watch his junior film compared to his senior film there is obvious growth. Better balance, better routes to the ball, better body position when tackling. Kid has a ton of talent. Just looks like a football player.

Rivals has OSU up to the #3 spot in the 2012 recruiting class, just a few point behind Texas. A real shot to end up the second best recruting class in the country. Given that two months ago OSU was barely in the top 25, it's been quite a turnaround.

I am very excited to see Williams come aboard. Got to love kids with NFL pedigrees. As I am super thrilled about OSU's recruiting as of late, the Big Ten overall has not been recruiting so hot. I looked at rankings for the SEC on scout and they had all SEC schools ranked in the top 33 (Mississippi was the only SEC school outside of the top 33 at 57).
Meanwhile the Big Ten had 2 schools in the top 33. Now I understand that recruiting is not an end all for the product on the field, teams sometimes have off years in recruiting, don't have needs to address, maybe the SEC recruits are over-rated. I don't know, but I hope this lack recruiting to other B1G schools does not affect the long term success of the product on the field. I really enjoy watching good Big Ten football.
And also "thanks" to the Doug Funnie references on the other post, I chose the name to represent my "roots".

I like getting these great recruits and it's very exciting as OSU fans, but can we wait and see how these kids adjust to college life, compete against OTHER former H.S. studs in practice before we label every guy that commits an immediate starter next season, a future all-American and next great Buckeye (insert position) here.
A lot goes on and can happen in 4 years and I..as well as a lot of you have seen it all. Hope they succeed and kick ass when they get here but unfortunately not all of them will be staters...let alone stars.

We just went through the worst 12 months of my Ohio State life. Nothing but negative news stories for a full calendar year. I'm wringing every last drop of excitement that I can out of the "potential" that Urban is bringing to campus. We know that not all of these guys are going to pan out, but these recruiting "victories" feel good. The sun is shining in Columbus after a year of thunderstorms.
It's not so much that every one of these recruits is going to be a starter and dominate, it's that every one of these recruits are really good, the sheer volume of great players he is bringing in is amazing. They may not all turn out to be stars, but if half do, WOW. That's exciting. Not to mention when has OHio State ever had a recruiting week like this? I've never seen one.
I understand all of that, the more good recruits the odds of more good players is much higher. It's just kind of funny when people are saying denard wont be able to handle perkins and williams and other guys in this class when they probably won't be on the same field as denard much, if at all.

Every day this week, a commit. This is ridiculous! But as great as this is, Dodson or Diamond has to come in here. Athletes and depth in the secondary are needed but to me, we need to build up the trenches, especially the OL.
I started coming to this site shortly before Thanksgiving and since I check this site 5 times a day! Thanks so much for all the work that you do! Living in South Bend, IN I don't get to hear Buckeye sports all day so this is my refuge. Thanks again!
