Tommy Schutt Becomes #17
Yesterday the rumblings were that Penn State commitment Tommy Schutt from Glenbard West High School in Illinois would rescind his verbal agreement with Penn State and instead decide to become a Buckeye. Today it appears that is official.
Schutt is a 5 star defensive tackle who visited Ohio State officially over the weekend, and he could be the first in a wave of big-time commitments for Coach Meyer and the Buckeyes in the next two months. At 6'3 and 290 pounds, Schutt will be a big space eater in the middle of the Buckeye defensive line. He joins Adolphus Washington as five star recruits on the defensive line, but those two could be joined soon by current MSU commit Se'Von Pittman and DE Noah Spence from Pennsylvania.
Schutt is the 17th commitment in Ohio State's 2012 class, you can watch him in the US Army All-American game in January.

PSU has now lost BOTH their ESPNU150 recruits. And that's just for this year. Cannot see how they stay remotely relevant as a football entity in the future.
It really isn't a shock. Penn State is going into the shitter and shows no signs of getting out. Nobody is going to play there unless they have to.

was said to be early September, then mid November, and last I heard it was mid December. Who knows? I'm keeping my excitement of coaching hire and recruit interest tempered until we find out what is behind the curtain. A bowl ban would seriously blow.

kind of. gene smith has probably told urban in no uncertain terms what he expects the punishment from the NCAA to be, and i would imagine that he's relayed that to his recruits.
the real question to ask yourself is how much you trust gene smith to read the tea leaves re: the NCAA. a lot of people are pretty optimistic. personally i'm still in "let's see" mode
at this point, i don't know how anyone could have faith in gene smith's opinion. just sayin'...

Besides Urban getting hired, I think the best thing we can focus on is the fact that the NCAA and Ohio State are in agreement on everything and didn't even bother to attend the hearing because of that, save for sending a representative.

Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts made the same prediction on 97.1, today.
He then went on to say Ohio State's 2013 class would be one of the school's best...ever.
So other than Taylor Graham and the expected medical redshirt, are there any other rumblings of guys who aren't going to be back? Is T.Y. Williams a possibility? Right now I think the sky is the limit for this class. Wouldn't mind seeing a couple of others take off so Urban can add a few more studs.

Ricquan Southward is now rated as a 2-star prospect by Scout? Any chance Urban doesn't want this guy in attempts to free up a spot for Stefon Diggs, Green-Beckham, Cyrus Jones, or Joel Caleb? I would hate to see that happen to the young man, but it looks as if we have better prospects giving us legitimate interest.

I just noticed that he was moved from a 3-star to a 2-star on Scout. He is a 4-star (79) prospect on ESPN, though. I have not seen video on him, just saw who he was recruited by and got offers from and the fact that in the last week (?) he somehow lost a star on scout.com.

Something to point out about Everett Withers, he coached and recruited Marvin Austin at UNC. So he could be coaching young guys like Tommy Schutt and and Aldophous Washington, and our veterans like Big Hank and John Simon (please)? Woot.
Something else that's cool about Withers... Jamal Marcus (LB from NC) is looking to take 2 officials to OSU and UNC. How much harder is the kid going to leaning towards tOSU if the guy who has been running UNC, Withers, relocates to Columbus? Marcus is a flat out stud. Go Urban.

No offense to this kid, as I'm sure he is really, really good, but we have arguably the 2 best DE's in this class commited, with a 3rd (and best DE of the class) very interested. I'm not sure this class has room for him unless he can translate well into the LB spot somehow.
Marcus is a lot like Shazier was last year, he was mainly a pass rusher in highschool, but he is projected to be a LB in college. Watch his footage, he is fast and hits hard. Looks a lot like Shazier but a bit bulkier.
I do feel like I'm getting a bit greedy. I just have a strong feeling that we will close on a lot of these leans in the not so distant future, for some false self-entitled reason.

I dont follow recruiting, so I dont know how this works, but you have him listed as a 5 Star recruit and the 4letter has 4 stars.
