According to Bob Lichtenfels, the east coast recruiting "go-to-guy" for Scout.com, Noah Spence, the nation's top-rated defensive end has committed to Ohio State.
Spence is a 6'3, 240 pound DE from Harrisburg who was thought to be a big-time Penn State lean, but the situation in Happy Valley and the hiring of Urban Meyer changed the landscape quickly. He was visited in PA on Friday by Meyer, Luke Fickell and Mike Vrabel before his official visit in Columbus this weekend, and his commitment is made official today.

You're half correct. Yes, our defensive line will be nasty next year. But because of John Simon, Nathan Williams, "HE ATE ME" Hankins, and Michael Bennet, not because of these new commits. We will see the impact of these new guys in 2-3 years.

Yeah, and Simon is going to be our best defensive player next year. Williams will help tremendously. If you couldn't tell how much he was missed on the field, then I question you watched very much this year.
This is what I hate about the recruiting process. Certain fans buy into the hype because "evaluators" for these websites, many of whom don't even have significant football experience, say certain high school players are great. So much so that in your case, these completely unproven players that have yet to even put on a practice jersey for Ohio State because more valued than proven All-American players. Sad.

I could forgive if all he had done was switch his commitment to TTUN. It's those snide comments he made about "the border is now open" that seal the deal for me. He burned his bridge back to C-bus IMO.

If he switched back and said "I feel this is the best place for me for the next four years and I am going to play for THE Ohio State University this coming fall" I know I for one would welcome him back. Justin Boren PLAYED two years for scUM and transferred and and I don't remember too many who weren't happy he was a Buckeye.

It was different in those days. I don't believe Spielman made a public verbal to any school but from what I've heard he talked to his dad and said he liked TSUN and wanted to go there. His dad basically told him if he went there he was out of the family.

This isn't true. I just finished reading Bo's book where he specifically mentions Spielman coming to AA for a visit. Spielman showed up in torn jeans and a tee shirt and Bo said he was arrogant and bottom line, they didn't get along. Plus, Spielman told Bo OSU had already said he'd get playing time as a freshman and Bo wouldn't promise anything. Spielman didn't commit to Michigan ever.

what I mentioned does qualify as a historical anecdote regarding Speilman's recruiting process that I've also read and confirmed via Spielman in a separate interview.

Given that were pretty limited on the amount of scholarships available for this recruiting class, should we really be concerned about the need for offensive linemen? How many do we have on hand right now and how many are coming in next year? I would think if it is something to be really concerned about, then Urban would be addressing that area accordingly with recruiting.
I was looking at a Pitt blog, and couple of their fans were acting like Bam Bradley had already comitted, is there any truth to that, or is it just assumed theres pretty darn good chance he does?

They like O'Connor at RT - it will be interesting to see what happens with Diamond in a few weeks. Auburn is a challenger, and not just for Diamond, Dodson was there this weekend, too.
Great pickup here! I'm not ready to say these guys are going to play next year and dominate or any of that kind of craziness, but it makes the future look awesome. Gonna have some great players on that D-line for years to come. Should be fun to watch.

If NCAA comes down harder than the current sentiment believes, the recently commited recruits have not signed NLOI and are free to change their opinion of Buckeye Nation. LeCharles is all Buckeye but he's been pretty hands off on recruiting issues. He's built a rep as a great skills coach and the fact he's a Buckeye helps but I don't think he stiff arms kids. Kalis is a talented kid and i don't blame him for stepping back and evaluating his commitment during a bad stretch of OSU news. But he's a Michigan man now and he's actively recruited for UM and talked smack about OSU. Que sera sera. We do need to close with some high quality o-lineman. Corch's d-line haul is pretty epic at this point but we need quality tackles to close out this class.
I willl say that I am thankful for Corch Meyer and Luke Fickell staying on staff. I have the distinct feeling that offseason this year will be much better than last year (NCAA bombshells witholding).
I also find some poetic justice in us stealing two highly touted PSU leans/commits as their fans were some of the most insufferable/hypocritical when the Tat5 shit hit the fan. I think the B1G is better off when PSU is good but they've got a big ole helping of humble pie coming courtesy of the law NCAA and maybe even the B1G.

There are 2 reasons I'd take Kalis if he did have a change of heart. 1) he's really a great talent and 2) can you imagine how freaking pissed it would make the hippie and his commenters. I'd love to see how they'd spin that in some sort of pro Michigan way the way the have about all the other recruits Ohio State is starting to get.
Also, a Kalis flip drops would be a blow to Michigan's class and would certainly raise the status of this class for Ohio State. I'm not a huge believer in recruiting rankings, but bragging rights wise, wouldn't it be awesome to take over the lead in that race as well?

Derrick Harvey and Jarvis Moss were the main reason Florida destroyed us in 2006. Hopefully two of the players from this class and the last one can step up to that level. Our defensive line is just going to be horrifying next year, and the year after that, and the year after that....

Just an absolute stud of a pickup. Hopefully, there is no NCAA damage that changes these kids minds. They really need to hit the recruiting trail hard now to pick up 2 of the 3 big OL they're targeting to make this class truly special.
To everyone saying hold up on these kids, and that they probably won't play for 2 years, please take a look at the projected starters. John Simon played the second game he was on campus vs USC, and continued to see time from there on. Big Hank got plenty of playing time as a freshman as well. Also, if Nathan Williams plays anything like Tyler Moeller in his 6th year, I don't think he will get much playing time over the guys behind him.
I'm not saying they will definitely see time because there is plenty of depth in front of them, but injuries (see #43) happen, and if they show something to the coaches early, the best players will play.

I don't think anyone is saying none of these kids will get playing time next year, I think people are saying it's unlikely any will be a star next year. Hankins and Simon both played as freshman but it wasn't like they were top D-lineman in the country as freshman. The kids may get some PT next year, and may make some great contributions, I think what people are holding up on is, that these kids probably aren't going to dominate the nation from game one of their freshman year.
