It's a busy sports afternoon with the good guys taking on Canada for the gold at 3pm (NBC) and Sparty visiting Purdue at 4pm (CBS).
On the hockey front, I guess I'd like our chances more if we hadn't won the earlier matchup. The favored Canadians will be out for blood and this game is as important as any played since at least the '72 Summit Series. Still, I like how 2010 is shaping up as Year of America (F-YEAH) and the talent gap is closing by the day.
It's hard to hate on the Purdue basketball team (though the football team can DIAF), so we feel for them on the loss of Hummel. Today, however, we'll do our best because a loss would go a long way towards helping Ohio State to a share of the conference crown (and a #1 seed in the Big Ten tourney).
It's cold outside and there's snow on the ground. In other words, it's a perfect day to take in some sports. Your witty observations are welcome here.

Yeah, the gold medal game in SLC was kind of deflating.
This game is playing with my emotions. Love Nash and hate Kane, but today it's flipped.
US looks like a better team than they were when this tourney started.
And I know everybody loves the scorers, but Rafalski and Niedermeyer are fun to watch.
This is shaping up to be about as chippy of an Olympic hockey game as you'll ever see.

Canada is playing to hold on. Their D is not moving more than a step or two past the blue line on offense.
Yeah, Kane has really impressed me in this tournament with his puck-handling skills. He's our most dangerous playmaker, for sure.
Halftime and Sparty is trailing. Lucas is AWOL and Roe looks like the softest 5-star recruit ever.

crosby always wins. you just have to accept it. its infuriating, but he does. when he scored that goal the first thing i thought was "of course its fucking sidney"
i was so excited about that parise goal in the last 30, but was just as quickly bummed by thought of Nash, Crosby, Thornton, Heatley, etc, etc with 4 on 4 with everyone on tired legs. it kind of seemed inevitable.

Bro, it goes beyond the Gold Medal game...I just don't like him. He's a great player, on his way to a Hall of Fame career...but I don't like him. (I also hated Jordan if that makes you feel better). No problem with the Steelers or Pirates, but I have never liked the Penguins. Just not a fan, it's not a respect issue.
