As far as opening nights go, Thursday night umm.. kind of sucked.
The OBC won in a snoozer, the Hoosiers eked by FCS Eastern Kentucky and oh yeah, this:
The offenses take longer to get going than the defenses and all that, but I'm having a hard time remembering a more disappointing night of football. Eh, at least the two Ohio MAC schools opened with wins.
One more day.

A brawl
Over 300 yards passing
A low scoring game
Odd combination for Thursday night football but all I gotta say is.....
O-H!
Wow, taunting and a sucker punch. Suspend the Boise State guy 1 game, throw Blount off the team.
I-O!
That game was a huge disappointment. Frustrating as hell watching Oregon sputter. More infuriating is how BSU is somehow a write-in for the BCS because they beat a shitty looking Oregon team. Hopefully BG can knock them off.
Worse yet, the drums will start beating re the wonderfulness of all that is USC, God, I hate that team!
I think I agree. Running your mouth is one thing, punches are another. Get that guy the hell out of here.
That was the best part of the contest...the sucker punch. Reminds me of when I used to treat Robin Givens as a punching bag. My nickname for her was"Everlast". Blount is my hero!!!!
I-O!
Actually worse yet the pavoratsi are already lining up USC's excuses for when they get beat down next weekend.
Unconscionable. If Blount isn't suspended for the season, he'll probably be kicked off the team anyway. Totally classless.
I can't understand why Oregon continued to try to run sideline to sideline when they had their best success throwing over the middle.
And I took crap on B/R for not putting Oregon in my top 25. Who's the wild man now! (anybody?)
Watching the NC State v SC reminded me of how much I HATE the SEC. Seriously, could they have gone on any more about their man love for the SEC? Anyone catch the comment about the ACC bodies on one side of the feild and the SEC bodies on the other and how much bigger stronger faster more attractive the SEC bodies were? And how much better off they were as persons for spending time near those SEC bodies? I'm sick I'm gonna puke. If I didn't love Buckeye football so much I probably would have walked away at this because of the media's coverage of the SEC. Why can't we schedule ESPN and CBS for our non-conference games. Help! I need help!
uSC sucks serious ass. I dont care what conference they are in, those guys blow. I'd love to play them sometime, and get some revenge for the bowl games!
I thought it was a great game and it ended just like mah daddy taught me
Rudy, rudy, rudy.....
Boise will do their usual 12-0, they'll all whine and scream about how the BCS is a criminal organization, and they'll get their "OK, shut up here's your Sugar Bowl" bid, and nobody will notice that Oregon sucked.
But maybe, just maybe Nevada will beat them and save us all the headaches.
Blount would not play for me ever again..... the Oregon coach should make a statement to the Pac-10 and his team and remove that kid from his scholorship--- there is no place for that at all ... and it makes no difference what the kid from Boise said to him, words are one thing, but throwing a punch is something completely different.
The Boise dude should get some type of punishment too. You want to talk trash? Fine. But don't go up and slap someone on the shoulder while doing it. Blount should be suspended because he has a record of bad behavior. Actually, I would boot him from the team, especially after hitting his team mate and going after the crowd. That was as classless a display as you'll find in sports.
That's just it, they beat a bad team 7-3
You know, last night before the game I wanted Oregon to win, but as the game was going on, I thought what the hell I kind of like Boise and what they are doing up there. I know they don't play a tough schedule or conference, and they get way too much love from the press, but it seems like they prepare for a big game better than just about anyone. I like their fans and their coach and mostly(last night was not the case) they seem to play with a lot of class. I also like to say that I think it's great that they show you can play good football w/out a team full of 5 star recruits.
That being said, Oregon flat out sucked last night, and honestly what made that look like a good win last year was how Oregon played the last 5 games or so. That was the same team that almost lost to Purdue last year. Anyway, I find myself really liking Boise State now, and I do think they would be a really tough team to have to deal with in a conference, and they would be better than middle of the pack in the big conferences.
Blount should be done for the season, the BSU defensive end should get a couple games suspension. If this had been DA U, you would have seen another mass brawl. I thought both the BSU players and the other Oregon players showed a lot of restraint, but it probably helped that BSU head coach was right there too. In any event, Chip Kelly needs to get rid of the kid if he cares about keeping his own job. Blount acts up again, and it will be on Kelly. Foo' me once and so on and so forth.
NC State was awful, and I know someone compared their QB to Troy Smith yesterday, but I just don't see it at all. I know he is still young but the man was missing receivers the whole game.
I give mad props to Blount. Having the balls to throw away a scholarship to play football and a possible meal ticket for the rest of his life all for punching some guy who deserved it in the face.
Dude, that punch was no big deal.
Oregon looked really bad and then their starting running back sucker punched a Boise State player. Nice team there.
'roid rage much
Blount's "apology" afterward was pathetic. We see a lot of bogus apologies in sports, but his was the least genuine I've seen in awhile. You would think this would warrant a multi game suspension at the least, I'll be surprised if he even gets 2 games.
Really?! I'd be suprised if he ever puts on the ugliest uni in college football ever again..........
Jesse Palmer made the game virtually unwatchable. In response to Craig James' comment about NC State not looking as crisp offensively this year and they did late last year, Palmer asked whether that might not be because they were playing an SEC defense (as opposed to the lowly ACC defenses they faced last year). And Craig James actually says "good point"! What! How does the fact that SC is in the SEC automatically mean that it has a good defense? Why couldn't he have just said, "Well, Craig, we should give SC credit because their defense is playing well tonight. That might explain some of NC St's offensive struggles" (though, I think NC State would have looked awful against any D last night) instead of "Well of course NC State's offense is having trouble, they're playing an SEC defense." What gives me nightmares is the thought of some jackass prepping these guys before the game and reminding them to market the SEC as much as possible, and to throw in a good line or two about "SEC Defenses" and of course "Southern Speed." Makes me sick.
I suppose we can expect even more of this type of garbage now that ESPN has a financial stake in the product that is the SEC.
Nice.
When "Keeping it Real Goes Wrong"
The Oregon coach should be fired I don't care if that was his first game. But that was some of the shittiest play calling I have ever seen. Seriously if the read Option isn't working why keep doing it? and on 4th and short with the game on the line? why does your quarterback have to do the read option starting back 5 yards, and then pauses for the read. Just get under the center and run the fucking ball right up there ass with the QB. It was open every time.
That's what I'm hoping. I picked Nevada to win the WAC and that game is the only one standing in the way of doing so. Unfortunately, it's at Boise.
This all supports my skepticism about teams that play on Thursday nights.
Oregon: Clearly not a top 25 team. If there was any hope that they might challenge USC this year, it is now gone.
Boise State: We will now have to hear about why they should deserve a BCS bid all year because they beat one mediocre PAC Ten team at home in week one, on a Thursday.-Washington State beat one PAC Ten team too, it was other 8 they had to play over the course of the season that got between them and a BCS Bowl.
Kenny Chesney may have also ruined college football for me.
+1
brings the lols
You hit the nail n the head right it's all about the money.
It's digusting how EVERYTHING gets routed back and attributed to the SEC conference as a whole.
The colors were amazing, dude! I'm just recovering from my grand mal seizure.
+10 even....
Well I can bet you that South Carolina will be ranked now. Didn't South Carolina shut out NC state last year? In theory doesn't that make South Carolina's D a little worse than last year? lol. Also, they got lucky that the NC State receiver dropped a touchdown pass. I know it was through traffic and all but just catch the F'ing ball there!
In addition to that, why was that so impressive what South Carolina did? I have not heard anyone mentioning NC State to do anything this year. South Carolina would finish down with Purdue in the Big 10.
Fo Realz
What happens if everyone else has a loss? I'm guessing they play in the title game if there are no other undefeated teams.
Is Kenny Chesney the dude that performs that horrific garbage that they play at the beginning of Game Day? Maybe they'll get rid of it this year.
Dude, horrific is giving it a bit too much credit even.....
I actually made the comment during the game that Jesse Palmer obviously still washes Spurrier's car for a job.
Miserable color commentary.
"he can't run away from that SEC speed on the D-Line"
No shit, cause he was standing still watching his reciever.
So, I came up with a new landscape for college football. Let's scratch the BCS and the come up with a whole new Football Division. No longer are there the Division 1 and 1A. No longer do we have the FBS bowl division. I think now we should have the top division be comprised of 12 teams, these teams will be from as far north as KY, south as Florida, east as South Carolina and West as Louisianna. Only these 12 teams can compete for the Championship and the 5 best players will be nominated for the Heisman.
The rest of us can play in a league where we don't have to constantly have this group of 12 teams shoved down our damn throats all day long, and hear about how one of their crappy teams is better than another conferences crappy team because they have great SEC athletes. We all know they have more NFL talent from the SEC than anywhere else, oh wait that's not right. Wait, they have to have more Heismans than any other conference. What's that? That's wrong too. Well surely most of their programs have had success for 50 plus years right? Hmm, only 2 of them have? SO WTF IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THEM??????
ESPN is their daddy.
