And We Have a Quarterback

Taylor Graham gives the class of 2010 a quarterback. At 6-4, he has the physical tools, much like his father did and he chose the Buckeyes over UCLA, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Iowa and Michigan State among other schools.

If Pretty Ricky (and his OC Norm Chow) wanted him in LA, that’s gotta be a good sign, right?

Your play, now, Mr. Hendrix.

Love it. Might not be Montana, but the dude is big and has pro pedigree. As you said, if he’s good enough for Norm Chow to be interested, then he’s good enough for not-QB U.

  2. Poe McKnoe says:

There was also a guy that coached Peyton and Eli Manning that wanted him.

  3. iball says:

We’ll just wait and see, hope he’s a stud. Don’t know why we go back and forth between pocket passer and dual-threat. Hopefully not another Todd B. situation.

    • Sam says:

I stand firmly by my belief that, given proper protection, Todd Boeckman was an above average quarterback. He just had the misfortune of being a leadfoot behind the worst Ohio State offensive line in Jim Tressel’s tenure.

      • Mike says:

I’ll agree with that. He would never be an amazing quarterback – he just did have that “it” factor to carry a team on his shoulders when the game was on the line – but he was definitely decent when he wasn’t failing to run for his life from USC’s top rated defense.

I’d have probably put him as the second or third best quarterback in the Big Ten behind a better O-line. Not amazing, but above average.

        • Wil says:

iball, why wouldn’t you want it to be “another Todd B. situation.” I personally hope every 1st year starter at QB takes us to the national championship game.

          • iball says:

We stumbled into that game. Bad o-line or not Boeckman cant make a read under pressure.

I never want another Boeckman, great kid, but I’ll pass.

  4. Shock-G says:

I wish there was more out there on him …

  5. chibucks says:

throwing 1000 yards in 5 games with 6 TDs and 1 interception last year before breaking his ankle in a pretty competitive conference isn’t bad at all…

  6. blazers says:

good signing. I have a gut feeling Hendrix is a lock for ND

  7. Alex says:

I agree blazers. I had a gut feeling too that Hendrix was ND bound. Who needs to go back to South Bend to check out the town again and see how the players interact, etc? Seems to me he was just re-affirming his decision to go after seeing how cool the OSU players were and how there is so much to do in terms of nightlife in Columbus. I did a similar thing when I got into OSU and Maryland. After visiting Maryland I returned to OSU to ensure that it was everything it was before my great trip to UMD. I stuck with the Buckeyes after that visit. Same will stick for Hendrix who visits ND tomorrow and will commit on the visit.

    • Matt says:

Don’t lie alex, you went wit O$U because of the corvette. In the end, that’s the reason why we all made that decision.

      • bup bup bup says:

for me it was the hookers and blow, but then again i’m just a poor cuban immigrant with a dream of making it big in 1980s America…

        • El Caballo de Sangre says:

          Bupx3 = Pat O’Brien?

        • El Caballo de Sangre says:

Yeah, bups – you tried to throw us off w/ the Tony Montana ref, but “hookers and blow” is just a lil’ too close to Pat’s VM msg.

          • Alex says:

Damn you guys got corvettes, blow, and hookers? I only got a honda civic, a troy smith endorsed cell phone, and a Mike Nugent for Heisman shirt

    • PALM BEACH BUCKEYE says:

Hendrix will be SOL when Weis is gone next year

  8. iball says:

Does OSU yank the scholly for Hendrix? Or can they do that?

Hope this doesn’t scare Braxton Miller away.

    • El Caballo de Sangre says:

Not a chance – WRT Braxton, I mean; I could give a shit about Hendrix now. If he’s coming he’s coming. Miller’s a blue-chip (whatever that means); Graham’s not.

I’m not one of those guys that says “if he’s scared of the competition I didn’t want him anyway”, but I don’t think that’s even applicable here. Neither Graham nor Hendrix (nor Austin Boucher for that matter) were being recruited as the “heir apparent” to LiC.

  9. El Caballo de Sangre says:

Off-topic: can I ask for these off-season polls (at least the last few) to have two more options? As in:

How the eff should I know?

    and

    I don’t care

      • A Bag of Doritos says:

well technically, he just asked. so, yes.

…yes, to go back to schoolyard days, i am a d-weed.

more to the point…those options ARE included! they are registered by the unspoken option of: don’t vote.

      • El Caballo de Sangre says:

Well played, Jason…it’s just that this time of year is extremely aggravating for a fan like me whose prioritizing runs like this:

        1. Ohio State Football
        2. Ohio State Basketball
        3. All sports that aren’t 1, 2, the NBA, the NHL, or the WNBA
        4. NBA
        5. NHL
        6. WNBA

…and there’s a ginormous dropoff between 2 and 3. I mean, I want Mullens to do well, especially given his life’s circumstances so far, but it’s hard for me to care a lot about one-and-dones as “Buckeyes”. That goes for folks like Oden and Conley, too.

It’s not just y’all’s polls, either; Vico has one up at OHD right now (I think) that asks which of four guys WHO HAVEN’T PLAYED A DOWN OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL will have the best CAREER at Ohio State. There really is only one answer to that question: how the eff should I know?

But like I said, it’s the shitty season, college-sports-wise, and everybody’s scrambling for good content, I suppose. I’ll tell you what I could get into: a series of polls folded into a bracket that selects the 11W community’s “favorite” Buckeye – for example, Cris Carter was indeed fantastic and brought Ohio State a lot of glory and acclaim, but put him up against Chris Jent and ask me who’s my favorite and I’ll vote for Jent early and often.

        • Jason says:

Love that idea and we’ve even talked about using the poll to select the annual Houndie and things like that, but we always seem to forget to do it.

      • El Caballo de Sangre says:

        Also I was drunk.

  10. Brian says:

Last week, everyone was ripping Graham, not we’re happy with the signing? I don’t really care much about getting him, I mean it will give us a capable back up, but with Pryor having at least 2 years probably 3 left, and the prospect of Miller coming in, I think we’ll be fine on QB for a few years. Of course you have to be prepared for injury.

    • Jason says:

      You gotta love fandom. :)

    • bup bup bup says:

i dunno, the kid might pan out, he might not. honestly it’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to care about recruits a year before they even suit up at OSU for practice unless they’re of Beanie or Pryor caliber and even then it’s more of a passing interest than anything else. it’s not like Tressel has ever been super reliant on 5 star recruits anyways

      • El Caballo de Sangre says:

That’s maybe the smartest thing I’ve ever read on the subject, ever – except for my own writings of course ;)

      • El Caballo de Sangre says:

I actually put a diary up at MGoBlog about the Shavodrick Beaver decommit that touches on the nature of these things. It was surprisingly well-received, but that’s probably because when I’m there I treat them with respect.
