Lighty Shelved for 6-12 Weeks
Bucknuts reported earlier today that junior David Lighty will miss 6-12 weeks with a broken bone in his foot, one day after tying his career high with 21 points and seven rebounds against Jacksonville.
The loss is obviously significant as the Buckeyes lose their captain and lone junior leader after beginning the season with seven straight wins.
Lighty underwent successful surgery Wednesday.
The loss of OSU’s best defender and solid rebounder could force Matta to play Lauderdale and Mullens more often at the same time while also affording guys like Wil Buford more minutes.
It’s also likely Turner could find himself on the back line of the matchup zone on occasion to take advantage of his rebounding prowess and Kyle Madsen (gasp) could also see increased minutes until Lighty returns.
Regardless, what a bad ‘break’ for Lighty and the Buckeyes.

well that sucks..end of the season, the games only get harder from here on out and with your best player done for more or less the rest of the year its over. unless someone steps up to fill his shoes i see a serious let down.
Wait, what? Lighty has one good game and all of a sudden he’s more important than Swatterdale, Threebler, et al.? Titus? Come the fuck on, man. It sucks, but anyone who thinks this is the end of the team’s tourney hopes hasn’t watched them. Like, at all. This year. Up until this point, Lighty had been a turnover-prone disappointment. All this does is ensure he’ll be back next year.
Agreed. It’s a big loss but he’s FAR from OSU’s best player which is clearly Turner.
Agreed…I think it’s way too early to hit the panic button. Does it hurt? Yes, but it’s not the end of the world. Buford will have to develop much faster than originally planned, but they have 4 easy games to work on that.
So, grab a stiff drink and relax and see how this plays out.
LIC!!!!! Put the pads away homie and break out the Chucks!!!
Agreed
Well what I could see happening here could be Diebler going to SF and Buford playing the SG, or I could see Turner to SF, Swatterdale to PF, and Mullens to C… or I could hope that.
