Say it Ain’t So – Potokar’s Cancer Returns

Potokar: tough like Woody

Most of you know former Buckeye receiver Dan Potokar has been battling cancer for a good while now.

Back in late March, Potokar headed to Indy for extreme cancer treatment, so extreme that it was said he might not even survive the ordeal. Then, in late May, it was reported the treatment was successful and doctor’s were optimistic.

There were even plans for Potokar to gain enough strength to play in Grove City’s Alumni softball tournament in July.

Unfortunately, a note dated August 20th on Grove City’s football site indicates Danny’s aunt recently shared that the cancer has returned and is in his brain.

I’m confident we’ll have some more updates here soon but in the meantime keep this kid in your prayers.

    From the GC Website:

This is from Danny’s Aunt Suzanne. She asked me to ask all of you to please ask everyone you know to pray for Danny.

I am writing you to inform you of Danny’s latest issue with his cancer battle, as prayers for him are once again very much needed!

In the past 2 weeks, Danny’s tumor markers started to increase. After further testing, the doctors found that Danny has at least 5 lesions in his brain-caused from the initial testicular cancer. Starting August 25, he will be undergoing full brain radiation treatments in Columbus. The reason he is doing full head is that it is possible that he has other cancer cells in his brain that are microscopic and the doctor in Indiana has advised him to go this route.

The treatments will be every day for 4 weeks. He will once again lose his hair, extreme fatigue, and memory loss. There are other long term potential side effects, but we are hoping to avoid those all together. This is where the prayers will be very helpful.

The good news is, Danny is back up to 175 pounds, feels and looks fantastic, and is ready to face yet another battle! Please battle along with him by praying for Danny to have the strength and the will to endure. Thank you so much for your help!!
