Officer O'Neal Lookin' Out For Quan
Daequan Cook's hometown fishwrap keeps the DC news coming at a pace even Access Hollywood could appreciate. Today, the DDN reported none other than Officer O'Neal picked up Cook at the Miami airport prior to his workout with the Heat. Apparently, Cook and the Diesel had met previously via a mutual buddy. Ever the nice guy, Shaq took Cook out for the day including a stop at his pad to discuss life in the NBA. In case you're wondering, Miami has the 20th and 39th pick in Thursday's draft.
Speaking of the draft, DDN also noted Cook is having a Draft Party at the swank Holiday Inn on Dryden Road. If you want to watch the draft with Cook and Al Powell Jr, it will only cost you a Gammons at the door. The 20 spot will get you some finger foods and a chance to rub elbows with a future NBA contributor and his crew. I might make the drive but I have a feeling Chad Ford of ESPN The Magazine won't be in attendance after this doozy on Cook:
"He's got springs, range ... and no clue on how to play the game. [Cook has] a weak work ethic and massive ego."
Damn. Hopefully the right team with the right coach will tap the true potential of the Quan and prove the naysayers wrong.

The Gammons reference caused me to wet myself.
I hope he is successful, but it's kinda hard to argue with Ford's quote. The only thing scary is the work ethic part. I'm guessing with DC, $=motivation. He lacked motivation in college for sure. Not that many talented frosh lose playing time as the season rolls on which I'm sure scares the interested teams.
It sounds like Miami likes him. Anyone watch Shaq with the fat kids last night? I don't think he realizes how much poor, fat, white kids love McD's and KFC.
I did watch Shaq with the fat kids last night. I think Shaq is hilarious, however you are right Travis, kids love fast food and so do single parents. Can you imagine being 14 and weighing 275 with 50% body fat?
I hope Daequan makes it, but the closer the draft gets, the more people are falling out of love with him. It really depends on the foreign influence of the 1st round. I can't believe I am actually excited for an NBA draft. I really want Ron Ron to get drafted. I think he could be a steal for someone late.
[...] for #20 pick Jason Smith and a bag of cash. I guess the DDN was on to something when they spoke of Shaq courting Daequan prior to his workout in Miami. This could be a great situation with Pat Riley, Shaq and D-Wade [...]
