No. 4 Ohio State women’s hockey wrapped up a series sweep of St. Cloud on Saturday. The Bucks defeated the Huskies in workmanlike fashion, rolling to a 4-0 victory. The shutout was the fourth of the season for the Buckeyes and goalie Kassidy Sauve.

Maddy Field staked OSU to a 1-0 lead late in the first period. She took advantage of the team’s first power play and collected her second goal of the series. Field has been steadily piling up the points lately. She has four goals and three assists in her last four outings and now leads the team with 10 points.

Buckeye Goal Scorers (Assists) Pd TIme

EN - Emma Maltais (Elise Riemenschneider, Jincy Dunne) 3 15:58

Fellow linemate Julianna Iafallo extended the lead with a pair of tallies in the second period. The Eden, New York native notched her first goal just over a minute out of the intermission. Near the midway mark she struck again. All together the line of Field, Iafallo, and Jacyn Reeves accounted for six points on the day.

Rookie Emma Maltais capped the scoring with an empty netter late in the contest. The goal sealed the deal on another 4-0 Ohio State victory. Sauve made 26 saves in the win. The Buckeyes now sit at 7-0-1 overall and 5-0-1-1 in the WCHA.

I’m not sure you could ask for a much better series. The Bucks led wire-to-wire and posted consecutive shutout wins. OSU’s penalty killers were a perfect 4-for-4 in the series. I guess the 1-for-4 power play had a little room for improvement. All in all, though, the Bucks did exactly what they needed to do. They played their game and took care of business against a lower level team.

Ohio State has a bye next week. It gives the Bucks extra time to prepare for a showdown with No. 1 Wisconsin on November 4-5.
