Ohio State safety Caleb Downs and his brother, Colts wide receiver Josh Downs, opened this week’s Downs 2 Business podcast celebrating wins for both of their teams: a 42–3 Ohio State “Saturday Night Smackdown” over Minnesota and a big Colts victory over the Raiders.
The NBC broadcast called it Ohio State’s most impressive win of the season, and Caleb agreed the Buckeyes executed on both sides while crediting defensive coordinator Matt Patricia for his in-game adjustments [03:28].
“A lot of teams change up what they’re doing when they play us,” Downs said. “Coach Patricia’s been doing it a long time and he makes those adjustments better than most people I’ve been around.”
Caleb gave props to his teammates in the secondary, saying, “The more you don’t hear the corner’s name, the more they’re doing their job,” singling out Jermaine Mathews Jr., Davison Igbinosun, Jaylen McClain, and Lorenzo Styles for their consistency and big plays [04:35].
He also shouted out wide receiver Carnell Tate for his monster game.
"He’s pretty much known as Tony Toe Tap now."– Caleb Downs on Carnell Tate
“He’s done a lot of the dirty work, blocking whoever they put him on, whether it’s a safety or a D-end,” Caleb said. “Every time he gets the ball, he makes a play. He’s pretty much known as Tony Toe Tap now. Got two feet in. Good on Sunday.”
Josh added that Ocho Cinco tweeted about Egbuka’s performance, laughing that the Buckeyes might have “the most powerful wide receiver duo in the nation.”
"It's a tough thing as a DC," Caleb said. "Especially if you're trying to stop the run game by playing bracket coverage on one of them or bracket coverage on both of them, it's a tough thing to do. I was surprised they left their corners singled up outside."
The Downs brothers closed their Buckeye talk praising freshman quarterback Julian Sayin after a 23-for-27, 326-yard, three-touchdown performance [08:55].
“He’s playing on a really high level,” Caleb said. “He’s making the right reads, putting the ball in the right place. He’s playing like he’s been out there two or three years.”
This week’s Eleven Warriors Fan Question of the Week came from BlockO, who asked: Who is the best player each of you has ever gone against [13:17]?
Josh picked Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, calling him “a freak of nature, just OD,” while Caleb went with former high school foe Travis Hunter.
Later in the episode, Colts running back Jonathan Taylor joined to talk patience, film study, and his top five NFL backs.
