A big theme on The Eleven Dubcast in the context of Ohio State sports fandom is keeping a close eye on your friends and a closer one on your enemies. Therefore, as the great trial of #OffseasonContent continues after a quiet news week out of Columbus, Johnny and I continue to examine the college football landscape for amusing developments regarding schools that seek to challenge the Buckeye football empire.
Last week, we opened the show taking the piss at Texas for chickening out of night opener against OSU and forcing a Big Noon Kickoff. Today, the Dubcast continues the SEC mockery by examining how the conference sought to prop up its image at its recent meetings event by touting the “strength” of its own incestuous schedule.
Never mind that many of the schools on the wrong side of the Mason-Dixon Line regularly schedule out-of-conference opponents such as The Citadel late into October and November. Or that flagship brands such as Florida hadn’t played an OOC school on the road in over three decades prior to the season before this most recent one. Certainly don’t pay any attention to that bowl record from a few months ago.
It just means more down there, right?
Additionally, the Dubcast discussion also covers:
- Greg Sankey also noted at the SEC Meetings that he plans on a $500k fine for schools that allow their fans to rush the field. How many Anthony Schlegels would it take to stop a riot of Vanderbilt fans after their first win in 40 years over them good ol’ boys at ‘Bama?
- Heading into next season, Georgia and Ohio State appear to be the 1a and 1b of college football with a bit of a power gap afterwards. Which school seems most poised to make the leap into that tier?
- Ask Us Anything — writers to dubcast@elevenwarriors.com this week inquired about many topics, such as what is the best movie we’ve seen this year? Certainly not the new Lilo & Stitch!
- Johnny’s fellow Middletown, OH native and Olympic judo gold medalist Kayla Harrison is fighting for a UFC title this weekend. She is currently a -700 favorite to win, so you’re going to watch UFC 316 and support the coronation of Ohio’s next champion, right?
- Another week, another pillar of sports television goes off the air. Of course, we’ll miss Inside the NBA on TNT much more than Around the Horn. What was your favorite moment in the pre and post-game show’s history?
And that does it for the Dubcast this week! Watch the show now on YouTube above, listen via the mini player below or visit our Transistor page for links to other listening options such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and more.
