Ryan Day still isn’t ready to pick a starting quarterback, and he may not choose one before the season begins.

While Day will have to ultimately decide who will take the first snap at Indiana in 12 days, he left the door wide open for the competition between Devin Brown and Kyle McCord to continue into the season during his press conference on Monday.

“If I sat here right now, I think that both deserve to play,” Day said.

That’s what we’re talking about on the first episode of Press Coverage, a new video series in which Eleven Warriors’ Dan Hope and Andy Anders will discuss the biggest headlines from Ryan Day’s weekly press conferences.

While we don’t think it’s ideal for the quarterback competition to continue into the season, we also sensed genuine optimism about both quarterbacks from Day on Monday, and we believe Ohio State can afford to experiment with both quarterbacks in its first three games of the season – but must settle in on one quarterback before the fourth game of the year against Notre Dame.

Monday’s press conference also brought news that Josh Simmons, Josh Fryar and Carson Hinzman are in line to start on the offensive line and that Sonny Styles has locked down a starting job along with Lathan Ransom at safety, though the competition between Ja’Had Carter, Josh Proctor and Malik Hartford is ongoing at free safety. We share our thoughts on all of that as well in our video conversation, which you can watch at the top of the page.
