Scoring 64 points in two games is more than worthy of recognition. Bruce Thornton received his recognition on Monday.
Following a 26-point outing in Ohio State's basketball season-opener against IU Indy on Nov. 3 and a career-high 38 points against Purdue Fort Wayne on Nov. 7, Thornton has been named co-Big Ten Player of the Week alongside Indiana forward Tucker DeVries.
It wasn't just the volume of Thornton's scoring in the season's first week; it was his efficiency. The senior and first-ever four-time captain in Buckeye hoops history shot a combined 21-of-27 (77.8%) from the field in the two contests and 7-of-12 from 3-point range (58.3%).
Pile on top some all-around contributions with Thornton's 10 rebounds, nine assists and two steals combined in the two victories, and his case for the conference's player of the week was clear. A preseason All-Big Ten selection before the season, he'll aim to go from third-team All-Big Ten in 2023-24 to second-team in 2024-25 to first-team in his final campaign.
Ohio State's season continues Tuesday at home against Appalachian State. Tipoff is at 6:30 p.m. on B1G+, which you can subscribe to here.
