I must say for me it absolutely has. I'm a pretty young guy and I was a diehard Ohio State fan. Last season, I found myself struggling to have interest in the team and watching the games felt like a chore or I just did it out of habit. As I hear about needing millions of dollars to sustain a good team I'm just about done.
This isn't a "don't pay the players rant" its just I enjoyed the era of guys playing for pride of their school and the program being bigger than any player. This era was already bad enough with the transfer portal. If these guys are actually worth millions of dollars than fine, I wish there would just be a separate minor league to the NFL where these guys could play and then the traditional D2-D3 players could play at schools like Ohio State on scholarship only.
If I wanted to watch the best players in the world play, I would watch the NFL. But I watched college football for the traditions and pageantry. And for me it's not all only about the players getting paid. The idea of a college paying a WR coach close to a million dollars is insane when you step back and think of it.
I've found myself getting more interested in another sport and leagues (I won't say which for fear of getting laughed at). I'm just curious if other people feel the same. As it is I think Ohio State and other schools are having trouble selling out arenas at these high prices, if things keep going this way I could see the stadiums getting more and more empty and the whole thing losing the magic it used to have.
