I came across an article that I read a few years ago(not sure if it was the Lantern or the Dispatch) that talked about the origin of Scarlet and Gray and how the school colors came about. The first graduating class of 1878 was set to commence and the school was putting together programs that were to be handed out. They initially wanted to used Orange and Black but those colors were already in use by Princeton so they decided on S&G.

If you could be back in time to choose our school colors, would you have chosen S&G or would you have preferred something else?

I personally like Orange and Black but S&G is definitely right up there
