The Ohio State Men's Volleyball team defeated Brigham-Young University (BYU) in the 2016 national championship and looks to stay strong, bringing a 23-match win streak into the 2017 season.
Men's Volleyball
The Buckeyes enter the 2017 season as the top-ranked squad in the nation, and are preparing to begin the regular season on Jan. 6. The weekend of Jan. 6-7 is the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) showcase, and will be held in St. John Arena.
Ohio State carries a 23-match winning streak into the 2017 season, last suffering a regular season or postseason loss on Feb. 6, 2016.

The team is led by 2016 collegiate player of the year Nicolas Szerszen and NCAA tournament MVP Miles Johnson heading into this season. Szerszen is a junior, while Johnson is entering his senior year.
The team finished their preseason matchups with a loss against McMaster on Friday, Dec. 30, dropping three sets to none against the Ontario, Canada-based squad.

Hopes remain high for the top-ranked Buckeyes, however, as they take on Penn State at 5 p.m. and USC at 7 p.m. on Jan. 6.
Men's Ice Hockey
In other news, the No. 9 Men's Ice Hockey team slipped to 9-3-4 on the year after a 6-3 loss to Miami (OH).

The team scored two goals in the first period, including one goal by Tommy Parran less than 10 seconds into the action.

The other first period goal came from Mason Jobst. The third and final goal of the game for the Buckeyes came on a power play from David Gust in the second period.
Men's Ice Hockey plays again on Jan. 6 against Penn State.
women's Golf
Senior Jessica Porvasnik won the 2016 Orlando International Amateur golf tournament, shooting 68, 73, and 75 during the three-day tournament. She won the tournament by three shots over two runners-up in Orlando when the tournament finished on Dec. 30.
The Women's Golf team's next event is on Jan. 16 against Florida Atlantic University.
