Another day, another step in the march to Ohio State at Indiana on Aug. 31.

ICYMI:

Word of the Day: Inchoate.

NFL MAKING THE GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYERS. Ohio State is a historical football factory. It was that way before Urban Meyer came to Columbus, and will be that way after he leaves.

According to THE NUMBERS, nobody is producing NFL talent like Ohio State right now.

From espn.com:

Hottest School Right Now: Ohio State
How do NFL success rates correlate to where players are picked? Surprisingly, four schools in the bottom 10 overall (Ohio State, FSU, Clemson and Notre Dame) have seen a recent spike in demand. The Buckeyes had 12 picks last season, including Joey Bosa at No. 3. We'll see in the coming years if the spike in picks is warranted by their performances on the field. Meanwhile, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arizona and Colorado have just two draftees among them since 2014.

It's almost as easy to see how this translates to recruiting success as it is to see when Meyer took over the reins of the local team in this chart below:

Bow Down to Ohio State

I look forward to Thursday night as Meyer turns the NFL Draft into another billboard for his program. It will help against the terror the Browns will inflict upon my soul during the same timeframe.

STEELERS PICK UP '18 OPTION. Ohioan Steeler fans are some of Earth's biggest scumbags. Yet they're celebrating today because this world is unfair and justice only exists in comic books:

This means Shazier will be a Steeler through the 2018 season.

Fun fact: The Browns selected Justin Gilbert in the first round of the 2014 Draft. The Steelers released him in February.

HARBAUGH! Michigan is in Rome this week, which means Jim Harbaugh will continue to act like a poorly-coded alien robot attempting to live among humanity undetected.

Here he is getting pwned by a mall security guard yesterday afternoon:

My question: What grown man thinks it's acceptable to play catch in a crowded area? I wouldn't tolerate behavior like that from my mediocre son, who would be sold into bondage over such uncouth actions.

BOSA IN CAMP. Joey Bosa failed to show up to the Los Angeles Chargers' voluntary workouts. It's cool, though, because he's Joey Bosa.

From espn.com:

Defensive end Joey Bosa has reported to the Los Angeles Chargers' facility for voluntary workouts after working out on his own the past two weeks, general manager Tom Telesco said Monday.

Last week, Chargers coach Anthony Lynn confirmed to reporters that Bosa had been working with his personal trainer in Florida away from the facility, rather than attending voluntary workouts at Chargers Park.

Looks like the Chargers learned their lesson from the last time they tried cramping Bosa's style.

A LEARNED LESSON. Oregon created waves with recruits with brazen sartorial choices. Unfortunately for them, it led to a roster full of guys who chose a school based on jerseys, which isn't a recipe for success on the actual football field.

Here's Willie Taggert lamenting his current roster.

From foxsports.com:

“It’d be easy for people to say, ‘OK, it’s a new staff, they’re trying to break these guys down’ — especially since all I kept hearing was, ‘Coach, Oregon is soft a football team, Oregon’s not tough,’” Taggart said. “It’s easy to take that story and think we’re in here trying to make them tough.

“I can’t make them tough. You’re either tough or you’re not.”

[...]

“I think a lot of the young men that were here, they came here for the uniforms, not to be a great football player. That fell by the wayside,” Taggart said. “We’ve got to get back to being blue collar. We’ve got to make them earn the things that they get here — and they get a lot.”

I think "You're either tough or you're not" is a cop out for a guy getting paid millions of dollars a year. People are never so cut and dry. You can either find new ways to tap into your players or throw your hands up. The latter doesn't sound like a good way to win football games, though.
